Work Text:
Uraraka has been dating Midoriya for three months now, and she loves their relationship. He totally fell in love with her the moment they first met, and they quickly became close friends. And three months ago, a bright red Midoriya asked if he could kiss her. So she obviously said yes and they shared a wonderful first kiss and started dating.
As with most of the time, Uraraka and Midoriya like to spend all of their free time together (occasionally with Iida, but he used to feel like a bit of a third wheel and now is spending most of his time with Shinsou Hitoshi from General Studies, his boyfriend). So when they have a day off of school, the pair jump at the chance to spend time together.
Holding hands, they wander through town. Midoriya bounces slightly on the balls of his feet, an adorable grin never leaving his face. They take a brief diversion when they see smoke in the difference and realise a villain must be attacking, and Midoriya insists they need to go and have a look, grabbing his tattered notebook and beaming with excitement. Uraraka rolls her eyes, but is happy to go and see; she has never seen very many of these hero-verses-villain fights in real life, so it might be pretty interesting.
It turns out to be a pretty boring attack. The villain isn’t very good and a hero she has never heard of (but Midoriya apparently took notes on in his fifth notebook years ago) overpowers him easily, waving to the crowd. And Midoriya grins as he scribbles down more notes, sucking on his lower lip in concentration. Even when totally absorbed in his obsessions like this (she thinks his obsession with heroes would be called a special interest), he just looks so sweet.
After this interlude, they resume their date and take a walk through the park. The couple sit together on the grass, relishing the beautiful sunlight and soft breeze. Midoriya puts his arm around her and presses a kiss to her cheek.
“Um… can we talk about something?” he says, suddenly a bit anxious.
Uraraka stares at him. “Of course. is something wrong?”
Midoriya shrugs, and is about to answer when he gets distracted. He tilts his head back to look up at the sky and says, “Crap.”
Confused, Uraraka looks up too. And then she realises the problem. The sky is clouding over, the clouds dark grey and foreboding.
“I think it’s going to rain,” he says.
“Should we take cover?” Uraraka asks.
As she speaks, a drop of rain lands on Midoriya’s nose. And he shrieks and cries, “Yes!”
And they both laugh as they rush across the grass, rain starting to fall, and hide under a large tree. The rain pours down, soaking the grass and even dripping on them through the thick foliage of this tree, but it’s better than being out there. Giggling weakly, Uraraka brushes rain out of her hair and looks at Midoriya. He’s frowning, hugging his knees to his chest.
“I still need to talk to you,” he says, his voice soft.
“You can tell me whatever you want.”
Midoriya smiles weakly. “The thing is, I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while and I didn’t know how to say it but… I’m trans.”
“Oh,” Uraraka says, her eyes widening. “Oh, Izuku, have I been misgendering you all this time?”
“No, I mean, I’m a trans boy,” Midoriya explains. “Are you okay with that?”
Watching him tremble, Uraraka pulls him into a hug. “Of course I am. And thanks for telling me. And… well, if sitting under a tree in the rain is the perfect time to come out… I’m bi.”
Midoriya looks at her, and starts to giggle.
“What?”
“We’re a right pair,” he says, hugging her back. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Uraraka whispers, giving him a kiss.
The rain starts to slow down, leaving everything soaking wet. It gets brighter, and she realises the clouds are thinning and sunlight starts to shine again.
“I think it’s same to go out there again,” she says. “Hey, want to go get some food?”
Midoriya smiles. “You know I do.”
Holding hands, they wander out from under the tree and head out of the park. Uraraka looks up at the sky and then starts to laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
“A rainbow, look,” she says, pointing up at the sky, where a faint rainbow has appeared in the sky.
Midoriya looks a bit puzzled, but then grins. “Oh, like the pride flag?”
She grins and nods. “A queer rainbow for a queer couple.”
And Midoriya laughs and gives her a kiss.
