The red string of fate. Everyone knows about it, the threads that bind soulmates together, a red thread leading you to the person made for you, the person you are destined to be with.
But there is a fact about the strings of fate that not many people know: not everyone has one. It wasn’t known in the past, but it is now known that everyone who doesn’t have a string is aromantic. In fact, their lack of a red thread is what leads most people to learn they are aro in the first place.
At UA high school, there are only three students who lack a red string, and they all are in the same class: Class 1-A. And they are Midoriya Izuku, Uraraka Ochako and Iida Tenya.
When they learned this, the three struck up a strong friendship.
“It’s just seen as weird, isn’t it?” Midoriya says one day at lunchtime, sat beside his two friends in the cafeteria.
“Yeah, some people mentioned people who don’t have a string, but they always talked about it like it never really happened, you know,” Uraraka says, shrugging her shoulders.
“There is certainly a stigma around being both aromantic and lacking the threads that the majority of the population have,” Iida says.
Midoriya smiles slightly. “Just like being Quirkless, I guess.”
There is obviously something hidden in Midoriya’s comment, but his friends don’t pry.
“But it… it means a lot to have met you guys,” Uraraka says, smiling. “It… it doesn’t make me feel so alone.”
Her eyes sparkle and Midoriya prays she isn’t going to cry. He hugs his friend.
“Come on, it’s okay.”
“There is no need to cry,” Iida says, patting her hand.
“I’m not sad. I’m happy.” Uraraka smiles at them. “I’m just so glad we’re together.”
