Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter Text

Izuku sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He blinked in confusion a few times, trying to clear the blurriness that rapidly spread through his vision. He stood, squinting, and made his way to his closet. He dressed into a mismatched blue shirt and bright orange shorts. On the shirt displayed a certain blond haired hero in a rugged pose with the caption “DETROIT SMASH!!!!” underneath. He ran into the hallway, his hazy vision dissipating, and shouted a loud greeting to his mother.
“Happy birthday Izuku!” exclaimed Inko, a wide smile spreading across her face as her precious now 4 years old scurried into the kitchen, the excitement practically radiating off of him.
“ Come eat, and then we’ll run to the store to pick up some things for your party. How does that sound?”
“Awesome Mama! Can we invite Kachaan?” Izuku asked politely, squinting ever so slightly so his mother wouldn’t notice, not wanting to worry her.
Inko knew that Katsuki could act cruel to her son, but despite the rough demeanor, she knew he had a soft spot for little Izuku, seeing him almost as a little brother, despite there only being a small gap between their birthdays.
“Of course hun, We’ll stop by the Aunty Mitsuki’s on the way to the market. Now hurry up and eat!”
“Okay!!”

------------------------------------------------

The green haired duo walked down the street hand in hand. Izuku unlatched from his mom, skipped to a large tan and brown house, and ran to the door.
“Slow down Izuku! Wait for me silly!” Inko exclaimed after her son, giggling at his antics.
He knocked on the large door, though his little fist barely makes any noise when it comes to knocking on the oak door. So, he then rings the doorbell. Repeatedly.
“ I’m coming you impatient shit!” Mitsuki screamed, making Izuku jump and let go of the doorbell finally. He giggles while Inko shook her head and chuckled.
Mitsuki kicked the door open and glared at the little boy, feigning fake anger until a treacherous smile betrayed her as it spread across her lips. She absolutely loved the pair, and she wasn’t surprised to hear a faint knock followed by an infinite ring of the doorbell. Her son glared daggers at the door and crossed his arms. “Shitty Deku, why’s he here?” Katsuki mumbled under his breath. Anyone who didn’t know the fiery-tempered boy well would believe that he didn’t want to see his peer, but his parents share a look, they knew how excited he actually was. The night before they had spent hours going to store from store looking for the perfect gift for his friend, Katsuki pretending to be uninterested in it until his mom attempted to pick out anything, exclaiming ‘He wouldn’t like that’ or ‘That shitty Deku would ruin it’. They ended picking out two All Might figurines, an All Might hoodie, and a peanut chocolate bar. Izuku loved peanuts, and Katsuki knew it. He made it his mission to get him one whenever he had enough money, once spent his entire allowance on buying two so they could share. That was also the day they found out Katsuki was allergic to nuts.

“Hey Inko, squirt, What are you guys up to?” Mitsuki asks lightheartedly, letting the pair inside.

“Aunt Mitsu!! It’s my birthday!!!” He looks over to Katsuki. “Kachaan, come over and play!”
“Izuku, mind your manners dear.” Inko smiled sweetly at her son and patted his head gently.

“Sorry Mama.” Izuku says, almost embarrassed. He looks back over to his best friend. “ Wanna come over Kachaan?”
“Tch. If I have to, you shitty nerd.” Katsuki says, almost succeeding in hiding a smile.
The mothers shared a knowing smile, looking over at each other, and then looking back to their sons.

------------------------------------------------

Inko watched as the two boys ran up and down the sidewalk, yelling things like ‘TEXAS SMASH’, along with other All Might phrases. She smiled at the pair and adjusts the grocery bags in her arms.

"Boys, after we drop off the groceries, do you want to go to the park?”

Izuku and Katsuki looked at her, smiles spreading wide against there faces. “Yeah!!” they both shout, Izuku jumping up and down in excitement.
They continued their walk at a leisurely pace, the boys still playing their hero game. Inko watched them with a thoughtful smile on her face. Her little boy was 4 years old! She remembered holding him in her arms at the hospital like it was yesterday, and she wondered where the time went. Despite all the things she had to go through in order for her son to have the life he did, she wouldn’t change a thing. She had a sweet, caring, honest little boy who would do anything for the ones he loved, and that was all she could ask for. He didn’t possess any of his dad’s traits, and she prayed he stayed that way. She wouldn’t love him any less if he did, but she wouldn’t be able to bare the thought of her sweet child being plagued by her husband. He was a cruel man, and the minute he found out that she was pregnant, he became obsessed with the child in her belly. She had run away, leaving her with no support behind her, until the Bakugos came along.
They moved to the neighborhood a few months after she did, and she and Mitsuki became good friends fast. They bonded over their pregnancies, their jobs, and just about anything else. Mitsuki completely adored Inko, and she vowed she’d protect her mild-mannered friend and her little bun in the oven. They went shopping together, cooked together, they did anything and everything in between as a pair. Inko honestly didn’t know where she and Izuku would be right now without Mitsuki’s love and support.

She snapped out of her thoughts as Katsuki reaches the door, yelling “Auntie! Unlock the door please.” Katsuki knew to mind his manners around her, as Inko Midoriya was a force to be reckoned with.

“Of course Katsuki, one second.” She pulls her keys out of her purse, unlocks it, and opens the door. “Boys, can you help me put the groceries away? The sooner we get done the sooner we can head to the park!”

Both boys nod, determination filling their eyes, which made Inko giggle. She set the bags down on the table and took out the food and handing it to the boys. They ran around, putting the produce away as fast as possible, almost making a game out of it. The project ended almost as fast as it started, and soon they were off to the park.

------------------------------------------------

“You’re always All Might, Kachaan!” Izuku whined, while Katsuki just rolled his eyes and jumps off the monkey bars.
“That’s because I’m more heroic!” “But it’s my birthday!!” “Too bad!”

“Get along!” Inko called from the bench she was sitting on. “ Take turns. Katsuki can be All Might first, and then Izuku can be him after. Does that work?”
“Yes, mama!” “Okay, Auntie.”
Izuku smiled at his mom and then turns back to Kachaan.
“Mua Ha Haaaa!!!!! I’m evil!” Izuku yelled loudly, facing Kachaan with a comical evil grin on his face, obviously trying to get into character. Kachaan smiled at him and steps into a heroic position, but he freezes, the smile disappearing from his face and the pose crumbling away as he curls in on himself. He looks above Izuku’s head. Izuku dropped the evil act and turned his head.

On a nearby building stood a gargantuan figure. Around him, wind and clouds spiraled, the clouds producing little lightning bolts. Inko ran to the boys, screaming for them to run. It was then the villain manipulated a lightning bolt to strike the building he was standing on. Inko grabbed hold of both of the boys’ hands and dragged them towards the park entrance, where tens of other people were scrambling to get as far away as possible from the crumbling building. Chunks of concrete, bricks, metal, and glass fell around them. Izuku heard Kachaan scream, and he whips his head around to watch a woman and her child be crushed by a piece of the building. The child screams, their legs being trapped beneath the rubble. Inko pushed the two children forward, urging them to run and not look back. They complied, Kachaan grabbing Izuku’s hand and sprinting towards the exit.
Inko ran back to the little girl, who was wriggling and sobbing under the gargantuan piece of the building. She screamed out for parents over and over to no avail. Inko tried to calm her down, saying things like “You’re okay” and “I’m going to get you out of here,” though it doesn’t do much. She tried to push the rubble off of the little girl, only for her to scream out in more pain. She stopped and tried pulling her out by her arms. Bricks and concrete fell closer and closer to them, the building now being torn apart piece by piece by hurricane-like winds.

Izuku ripped his hand away from Kachaan and screamed for his mom. He ran toward her, his eyes tunneling straight to her. He heard Kachaan shout his name, telling him to come back, but Izuku kept running to his mother. He was too late. Inko and the little girl are crushed. Izuku froze, for seconds, minutes, hours, an eternity passes before his feet begin moving again. His pace is much slower, barely a shuffle. The world around him disappeared, only leaving him and the debris that his mother’s corpse was trapped under. He reaches the rubble and falls to his knees.

He felt a hand on his shoulder, and the hand hurts, almost feeling like it scorched him. He scurried away, holding his now bloody shoulder. He looked at the figure standing above him. It was a boy, not much older than him. The boy’s eyes were filled with something similar to pity, though they also held something else. Something much darker and scarier than Izuku had ever seen. The boy’s hand was held out towards Izuku, almost as a peace offering. When Izuku didn’t take his hand, the boy’s eyes turned angry, angrier than anything Izuku had ever seen before, even more angry than when Kacchan had called Inko an ‘Old Hag’, and he mumbled something venomously under his breath.

The boy grabbed Izuku’s arm, only using four fingers, and dragged him up towards another figure a few yards away. The ‘person’ was a dark, inky black fog in a suit. Their bright yellow eyes stared at Izuku for a moment, as if trying to read his mind. Izuku was sweating, his body not cooperating. The inky figure’s eyes seemed to convey a sense of glee, though Izuku didn’t even want to know what that could mean. The person moved flicked his hand in an almost uncaring manner, and an empty black hole appears in front of the trio. Izuku looks at the hole in pure terror. He tries to pull away from the boy, only to feel an unbearable pain stretch throughout his left arm. He cries out and stops struggling, looking at his arm, up to the boy’s face. He was grinning.
Izuku nods, and he means it. He wasn't even sure if his legs would be able to move. The boy let go, the pain automatically dissipating. Distantly, he heard Kachaan calling out his name. His real name, not ‘Deku’. The evil pair looked at each other, deciding something. Izuku watched as Kachaan ran toward him, his legs carrying him as fast as they could. He’s was yards away, moving closer and closer, until he was almost to him. Izuku felt the boy’s fingers close back around his wrist, guiding him towards the portal. Izuku watched as he got pulled away from his best friend, practically his brother. The boy shoved Izuku in first before following. He was shrouded in black for mere seconds before the back of his head connected with a hard surface.
Everything went dark.
