The doorbell ringed, and Touya grumbled as he got up. When he opened the door it took Touya a moment to recognize the pro at his door. The last time he saw Tokoyami was when the pro was 16.
“Who are you?” Tokoyami asked
“Touya,” he answered “I’m Hawks’ boyfriend,”
“Where’s Hawks?” Tokoyami asked “he said he wanted me to come by when my undercover work was done. Something about missing me, or something,”
“He’s on patrol. He’ll be back in thirty minutes,” Touya told him “you can come in if you want,”
Tokoyami took a minute to look over Touya, and then stepped inside.
“Y’know many years ago, when I was a teen. Keigo mention someone name Touya,” Tokoyami said “told me he was a childhood friend. Are you the same one, or is it just a coincidence,”
Touya froze for a second, and considered his options.
“Yes,” Touya said “unfortunately we got separated when we were 18. We got back together in our twenties. I had to leave to go on a deep undercover mission. Y’know the fake your own death kind. Leave your own life completely behind,”
“That must have been brutal,” Tokoyami commented
“Would you like some tea?” Touya asked trying to change the subject.
“Yes please,” Tokoyami said “Keigo told me about after he got into a fight with Dabi,”
“Oh,” Touya shoulders became stiffed “I don’t know why he would mention me after something like that,”
“He also told me that you were dead. Died at the age of 18,”
“Oh,” shit “well if it was after a fight I don’t think he would be thinking straight,”
“Drop the act Todoroki,” Tokoyami said “I know you’re Dabi,”
“How?” Touya asked not even trying to denied it.
“For one you look like the old pictures of Touya ,Todoroki showed me. And two after you attack Keigo, and I, I went to visit him in the hospital,”
Tokoyami came to visit Hawks a few days after their fight with Dabi. He visited the day after the attack, but the doctors said that Hawks was going in, and out of conscience. They told him he would most likely wake up fully in a few days. Tokoyami had some injuries, but they were minor, and easily treated.
”Touya,” Hawks grumbled still half asleep.
”Hun,” Tokoyami asked his mentor
Hawks was pulled back to sleep. Hawks called him that the first day he visit. Over the next hour he heard Hawks mumbled the name Touya a handful of times. It was dark when Hawks woke up.
”Touya?” Hawks whispers, but recognized Tokoyami after a few seconds “How are you doing Tokoyami,”
I’m fine only a few injuries,”
How are you doing mentally?”
I was a little shaken after the fight, but I’m fine now. Dark Shadow is more in shocked than anything,”
“That’s good,” Hawks said in a sad laughed
“I am sorry if this is to personal, but you kept saying the name Touya,” Tokoyami said “who is that,”
“Keigo almost look pained. When I asked him about you” Tokoyami told Touya
”We were friends when we were young. We trained together, and we were roommates. He was going to be a hero with me, but that didn’t happen,”
What happen to him?”
”He’s dead. I thought I killed him when I was 18,” Hawks said bluntly, and Tokoyami flinched “Now I don’t know. I don’t know if Touya is dead, but I’m sure as hell going to try to drag him through the ashes. I just don’t if I’ll drag out his corpse. People are tricky kid. You never knows what they been through,”
”What was he like,”
”He had the most beautiful flames. When we couldn’t sleep he lit his hand on fire, and we would look at them. His body couldn’t take how hot of his flames were. He kept on burning himself. Nobody cared though, not the teachers, and not his dad,”
”That is...” Tokoyami tried to find the words, but failed.
”There’s going to be a lot of changes in the hero world soon. I don’t know if it’s going to be a few months, or years, but it will be soon,”
What... what do you mean,”
”You heard what Dabi said. I’m way dirtier than any of them. I’m not the only pro with secrets,”
“Where is this going?”
”Im going to keep a promise to Touya. Lots of dirty laundry. A lot of shit going to go down,”
“Are you sure you should be telling me this,”
”I’m sure as hell shouldn’t,” Hawks laughed “I’m only telling you this because I’m high as hell from the drugs, and emotional. Y’know,”
”Excuse me,” a nurse came in “visiting hours end in 5 minutes,”
”Of course,” Tokoyami said “I am sorry Hawks Sensei. I have to go,”
”Tokoyami,”
“Yes sir,”
“Look out for your friends,”
“Do you think we going to be-“
“I don’t think you’ll be attacked. Just,” Hawks sighed “like I said shit is going to hit the fan soon. Make sure you guys are there for each other,”
“That damn bird,” Dabi sighed
“I thought it was weird, but I too no it with a grain of salt,” Tokoyami told him “at that point I just thought he was high from the pills,”
“What changed your mind?”
“In my second year all the things about Endeavor came out. I thought the parallels between Touya Todoroki, and Hawks’ Touya,”
“So you connected the dots of those two. How does Dabi fit into this equation,”
“I did not think much of it at the time, but when we were fighting Dabi, Hawks told me he was monologuing, because his flames were to much,”
“And?”
“I did not connect the dots immediately. Did not even pop into my head. I just thought that Hawks’ help Touya Todoroki. Then I though about Dabi. It was just a half baked theory that I thought was crazy, and insensible. Still more, and more evidence kept coming up. Dabi’s burns, how fishy Touya Todoroki’s death was. Though I did not give it to much weight until...”
“Until the HPSC leak,”
“Until the HPSC leak. It was just to many coincidences for me. Todoroki told us everything after was Endeavor taken down. Most of the class made a plan to take down the bastard. So I know on good authority that it was true. So why the hell did Dabi know all of the Todoroki’s dirty laundry?”
“Unless Dabi was a Todoroki,” Touya filled in
“I have never confronted Hawks about it,” Tokoyami said
“Did you suspect that I was Hotaru’s father before today?”
“I never knew where you two truly lied. Especially after Hawks was hospitalized. I only thought about it after Hotaru’s quirk came in. Even then I thought it was far fetched,”
“Your a smarty birdy,” Touya sipped his tea.
”How did you guys get together, and how did you not get arrested?”
“For a while we pretended it was just about sex,” Touya said “But we both knew we were just in denial. When he killed Twice I went told him my real name. I hospitalized him he called me. Said he didn’t care about me, but wanted to with hold the promise of taking down my dad. We rebuilt our trust. I took a long time, but we did.
By the time Keigo knew about Hotaru I was already gone. In exchange of info on the league they gave me immunity, and they released all the info on Endeavor. They basically put me into witness protection. The reason I came back was I found out about Hotaru via sports festival,”
Before Tokoyami could respond someone came in through the door.
“Hey I’m home,” Keigo yelled from the front door, and made his way to the kitchen “Fumikage! You’re back,”
“I got back last night,”
“And I see you my two favorite edgeloards have meet,” Keigo joked, but the tightness in his voice was undeniable.
“Yes we’ve been sharing some tea,” Tokoyami told Keigo
“He’s been here for about 20 minutes,” Touya said
“Well Touya I’m glad you meet my sib from another egg,”
“For the last time that doesn’t even make sense,”
“Shhhh my protege,”
“I’m not even-“
“How’s Hotaru,” Dark Shadow interupted
“She’s good,” Keigo told Dark Shadow “She just enter 2nd year,”
“She’s growing up so quickly,” Dark shadow said
“You’re telling me,”
“By the way Fumikage knows,” Dark shadow said and retreated back into Tokoyami.
“What?” Keigo asked confused.
“You coward,” Tokoyami hissed under his breathe.
“That-“ Touya started, but instead Tokoyami explained
“Dabi is Touya Todoroki. Touya Todoroki is Touya you were talking about when you got hospitalized after you guys fraught, when I was 16. Your boyfriend is Dabi,”
“Damn kid you been holding onto that since you were 16?” Keigo said in amazement, and worry.
“More like I’ve been connecting the dots, but more, or less. A vague outline of the truth,”
“I’m sorry,” Keigo said “I shouldn’t have told all that. It was a bit heavy,”
“Can’t change the past, so there’s no need to dwell on it. Now didn’t you tell me you wanted me to come here, because you wanted me to try the new chicken place,”
“Oh yeah,” Keigo lit up, and practically dragged the other bird out of the room “bye hotstuff,” he yelled as he open the front door.
“Bye,” Touya called
