“They treat you horribly,” Touya muttered one day when they were seven, absently playing with Keigo’s toes, endlessly fascinated by the appendages. “You should come with me. I can take you to the sea, you’ll be happier there.”
Keigo’s feathers fluffed up in alarm at the suggestion. “But I’m supposed to fly,” he responded, spreading his wings against the sand on which he laid for emphasis. “Not swim.”
Touya’s brow furrowed, and his fingers stopped wiggling Keigo’s toes for a brief moment. “You can do both.”
“I’ll drown,” Keigo said quietly, staring up at the sky in a despondent manner.
There was silence between them again, and Touya seemed to drop the subject.
