Work Text:
Keigo stepped into his office as the sun peeked over the horizon. The office itself was bare and devoid of personality. A plain wood desk, three leather chairs, a filing cabinet and a bare bookcase. Just a few days ago the HPSC opened his hero agency. Legally he opened the agency. But all he did was sign some paperwork and nodded when people asked him things. Despite multiple people bustling around the building, Keigo never felt more alone.
At the agency’s opening party what seemed like thousands of people congratulated him. Telling him hard he must have work. How talented he was. How he will make a fantastic hero. The party itself was fun. He met a lot of new people and his future co-workers. It’s just… he doesn't feel like everything is right.
Don’t get Keigo wrong. He wants to be a hero more than anything. Even though the training had been rough and some of the trainers he was less than fond of, he was grateful to the HPSC. All he has ever wanted to do was save people.
He just wished a young man with snow white hair with turquoise eyes was by his side.
For how loud and chaotic the day would be, for Keigo it began pin drop quiet. He had the day off, a rarity nowadays, but he got up when the rays of sunlight peeked through his blinds. With a groan, he rolled out of bed, did his morning routine, and plopped on the couch. He turned on the tv and flipped on the channels. After ten or so minutes he left it on a random news show. The tv served as background noise until seven am.
“We have gotten troubling news that has just been revel,” one newscaster said “about the number one hero,”
Keigo put down his phone and sat up. Was this it? Was everyone going to know? Did they do it? Was everything that he had gambled finally coming to duration.
“Sources say Endeavor has had a past of domestic abuse,” the newscaster said “and that’s not all…”
Keigo jumped from his couch and cheered. He felt like celebrating but something felt like something was missing.
Someone to be more exact.
Logically he knew that wherever Touya was he would be seeing the news about Endeavor too. In the next few minutes every new station would be covering this story. Within a half of hour the news would spread like fire and everyone in Japan would know about Endeavor’s misdeeds.
With any luck no one would ever know Keigo’s and Touya’s role in taking down Endeavor. There would just be more questions and Keigo did not want any of them answered.
Still, Keigo wished Touya was by his side, celebrating the downfall of Endeavor.
Keigo stood over his 4 month old daughter, taking her mid day nap.
“She has beautiful eyes,” was the first thing Rumi says when Hotaru was born
Right now he would give anything to share this moment with the man who shared her eyes.
He almost started crying when he heard Rumi say that. She didn’t know. She could never. Rumi knew Hotaru’s father was a villain but she didn’t know the father was Dabi. Rumi would bunny kick his ass into next week if she ever found out.
Keeping her a secret from the public was near impossible and the dysmorphia was hell. But as he watches her in her crib he decides that everything was worth it. He was known as the man that was too fast for his own good but he felt like he was meant for this slow domestic moment.
Keigo knows that Touya probably wouldn’t want to live a domestic life. But he could let himself imagine.
Ice. Dark blue ice covered his four year old’s room.
Keigo couldn’t help the sigh that escaped his mouth as he dialed a clean up agency. He kinda wished Touya was here. He’d be able to melt the ice in no time.
Not just that but a child’s quirk coming in was a big deal. A momentous occasion. A moment where the whole family would go out to ice cream or some other treat. Well that’s what your quirk coming in was supposed to mean.
A quirk coming in was not supposed to decide if your child will become a soldier. Or if you were going to toss them aside and not give them a second look.
He’ll make sure of that. Keigo will be forever grateful for the HPSC for giving him a home and the resources to become a hero. But in the end he wants Hotaru to have a childhood. That’s why no one connected to them will ever find out the truth about her.
Keigo felt like time was slipping from his fingers like sand. Today was his daughter’s first day at UA. The only thing wanted to be different was for Touya to be here. He’s thought that a million times over the years but as she gets older he thinks about him being here more and more.
He isn’t going to lie, he wished his daughter picked a different career path. Being a hero is filled with too many unknowns and secrets. Though he couldn’t help but to be insanely proud of her. She was working hard to get in on her own merit and was dedicated to becoming a hero.
He knew Touya wouldn’t like their daughter becoming a hero. Everything he stood for was against heroes and society. Though Keigo couldn’t help but wonder how exactly Touya would react. Angry? Indifferent? Maybe even supportive.
After about twenty million pictures and twenty trips back and forth Hotaru was ready to go.
“Bye Papa,”
“Bye love dove, have a good first day at school,”
“I’ll try,” she said and walked out of the door.
He’s been to UA’s graduation a billion times. After he became number one they asked him to speak at the graduation ceremony. He accepted and every year he comes back to give some version of that speech. Even when Deku overtook him as number one UA still wanted him to speak at their graduation. Though Deku would go first whenever he was available.
Though today he sat in the audience.
Today was his daughter’s graduation.
He sat in the back, and wore a suit that hid his feathers and a baseball cap to hide his hair. An odd look but so far it had worked. He hoped less people would recognize him and he’d be able to enjoy time with Hotaru.
He glanced at the empty chair next to him. Wishing Touya was next to him. Although they thought about Touya going to Hotaru’s graduation it was deemed too risky. There had to be over two hundred pros and forty or so soon to be pros. Although over the years UA has gotten more strict with media at stuff like this, news reporters were everywhere. It would only take a moment for the press to ask who the mysterious man next to him was.
The ceremony was a nice one but went on forever. Many top pros talked about how happy they were about the next generation and what changes they would be bringing with them. Ground Zero shockenly kept it PG-13. Deku cried for a record low of ten minutes. Mt. Lady brought her usual energy and all of the home room teachers said some nice words. Principal Aizawa kept his speech short by telling the problem children to get out of his hair.
By the time him and Hotaru got home they both wanted to fall in bed and sleep for the next three years. But all those thoughts left his mind as he smelled the delicious cooking.
“Touya, are you cooking something?”
“Yeah I’m making dinner to celebrate,”
Keigo couldn’t help but laugh.
“What?”
“I don’t know it’s just,” Keigo had to stop to catch his breath “I’ve seen you roast people alive. Sometimes I just have to step back and see how much has changed,”
“Yeah suburban dad wasn’t where I was expecting to be either,” Touya rolled his eyes “definitely thought I’d be dead or rotting in jail,”
“But I’m glad you’re here,”
“I am too,”
