Chapter Text
Kayama Habiki had been a pro hero for a few years now, but it would be his first year teaching. Despite not being a UA Alumni, he was still offered a position to teach the next generation heroes. After a rough battle against a villain with a freezing quirk, his singing voice had been temporarily wrecked. He figured now was a good time to accept the offer- after all, these were high school students. Both his parents were teachers as well as pro heroes, how hard could it be?
“Are you sure about this?” Uncle- Principal Aizawa asked for the third time. “This year’s class is full of legacy students, and their parents were far more trouble than even I expected.”
Kayama waved the concern away. “I’ll be fine Uncle!” He crooned, wincing at the unfamiliar rasp in his voice. “You taught, Dad teaches, Mama dearest teaches- I’ve probably picked up most of it through you all.” Aizawa internally cringes. While Kayama was good with hero work, his track record with people wasn't the most reassuring in this scenario. Watching the boy grow up alongside his own kid, he noticed that Habiki had the tendency to get… overwhelmed, especially in large crowds. He wasn't sure that a room full of teenagers was the right setting for his honorary nephew, especially when the majority of them were the spawn of his most troubling class. The indigo haired hero smiled reassuringly at the tired man.
"It'll be fine! I've dealt with entire terrorist organizations! I wouldn't be able to call myself a hero if I wasn't able to handle a bunch of kids." The Erasure Hero sighed and slid a folder across the desk.
"Alright. Study up on your incoming students and make sure to have your lesson plans submitted to me by Friday.” Kayama grinned, snatching up the folder and leaning over the desk to give his uncle a one-sided hug.
“You won’t regret this Uncle! I promise.” Aizawa watched his honorary nephew as he exited the room, his walk even bouncier than normal. Better someone fresh to the job than himself- if he were still teaching this could’ve been the year that finally killed him.
As the young hero made his way back to the teachers' offices, he looked down at the folder full of files in his hands. His smile grew wider as he imagined what his future had in store now that he was in charge of the lives of so many promising young heroes.
"Lullaby!" A voice sounded from behind, followed by the sound of rapid footsteps on the tile. Kayama turned to face the familiar figure only to be glomped to the floor.
"How long has it been since I've last seen your cute face? What’re you doing at UA? You visiting your parents?"
Kayama gasped for breath before laughing slightly. “No Gadget, we’re meeting up tonight. I was actually here for something bigger.” He pulls the thick folder out from between them and waggles it triumphantly. “Guess who took the job~!”
The squirrel hero squeaked in excitement. "No way!" She sat up to squish his face in between her hands. "I didn't think Eraserhead would actually let you take it considering the next batch of kids coming through!" She grabs the folder from the other hero's hands to start looking through the files.
"Oh come on, they're just the kids of other heroes." He tried and failed to grab the files back from his friend.
"Not just any ordinary heroes.” She chirped, somehow keeping them out of his reach as she flipped through. “You’ve got Entropy’s daughter, one of those Idaten kids- you have Deku’s son in here!” Kayama finally managed to snatch the folder out of her hands. “Hey! I was reading that!”
“Go get your own class list!” He snarked back, wincing again at the rough sound of his voice. “I can totally handle this. Why would Principal Aizawa let me take the job if he thought I couldn’t handle it?” The squirrely hero shrugged.
“Maybe he thought it would be funny? I certainly will laugh at you when the school year starts. I’ve gotta run, but congrats!” And with that, she ran off again, in the direction of Uncle’s office.
… Was Gadget right? No, no. Uncle offered him the job because he thought he would be able to do it well. He would be fine!
How much trouble could twenty teens cause anyway?
~transition~
Later that night, Kayama finally got a chance to sit down and take a look at his class roster. Even if he had this in the bag- which he did of course!- it would still be wise to read through.
- Iida Akira - DOB: 17/05/XX
Quirk: Engine Exhaust- she can breathe out smog and flames thanks to the engines in her lungs
Parents/Guardians: Iida Tenya (see Hero File: Ingenium)
Asui Tsuyu (see Hero File: Froppy)
The Iidas were one of the most well-known hero families around- his parents had apparently been friends with Ingenium’s brother who was… also Ingenium? Talk about a lack of creativity.
- Bakugou Kemuri- DOB: 07/11/XX
Quirk: Nightmare Fuel- the smoke generated from his palms can cause disturbing hallucinations toward those who breathe it in.
Parents/Guardians: Bakugou Katsuki (see Hero File: Ground Zero)
Utsushimi Camie (see Hero File: Maboromicamie)
This one might pose a problem. He’d seen the video of Ground Zero’s first-year sports festival, and the aftermath of those explosions. At least the kid’s quirk had less chance of causing property damage.
- Omoshiroi Jordan- DOB: 20/04/XX
Quirk: Rubber Limbs- they can extend their arms and legs over 20 meters and snap them back into place- like a rubber band.
Parents/Guardians: Omoshiroi Sochi (see external school file)
Matthews Lauren (see external school file)
Not all legacy students then. What was he so worried about?
- Kaminari Yubisaki- DOB: 05/10/XX
Quirk: Taser Touch- she can incapacitate anyone she touches with an electric shock, as well as emitting waves of electricity. (additional information: Quirk overload)
Parents/Guardians: Kaminari Denki (see Hero File: Chargebolt)
Uraraka Ochako (see Hero File: Uravity)
Quirk overload? He’d seen on the news what happened if Chargebolt overused his electricity- if the poor kid had it too that would cause some trouble. But her other parent was one of the greatest Rescue heroes around, so how bad could she be?
- Tetsutetsu Tenohira- DOB: 10/09/XX
Quirk: Steel Hand- able to turn his hands, arms, and shoulders into steel.
Parents/Guardians: Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu (see Hero File: Real Steel)
Kendo Itsuka (see Hero File: Battle Fist)
His file looks promising enough. Both Battle Fist and Real Steel had a record of being great heroes to work with, and these traits would certainly be passed onto their son. So that's at least one less student to worry about behavior-wise.
- Shinso Koneko- DOB: 23/07/XX
Quirk: Mind Control- Can control the mind of any mammalian creature that responds to her after she activates her quirk.
Parents/Guardians: Shinso Hitoshi (see Hero file: Voicemaster)
Koda Koji (see Hero file: Anima)
While Kayama was taught that judging people by their quirks was wrong, he still felt a shiver go up his spine when he read the description for hers. He quickly pushed those thoughts away. Anima was supposedly one of the kindest heroes out there, and Voicemaster was the prime example of a hero with a seemingly villainous quirk.
- Monoma Baki- DOB: 31/10/XX
Quirk: Identity Theft- by touching someone, he can take on their appearance as well as use their quirk for up to half an hour. (see additional medical form)
Parents/Guardians: Monoma Neito (see Hero file: Phantom Thief)
Phantom Thief was Kayama's favorite hero growing up- and still today. It was a shock to him to see that he had been both a full-time hero and single parent to a child with… intrusive thoughts. Huh. Kayama made a mental note to pay a bit more attention to this student on the first day of class.
- Todoroki Fuyumi- DOB: 17/03/XX
Quirk: Natural Disaster- Can control the growth of plants as long as she starts with the seed, can also freeze and burn them. (see additional medical form)
Parents/Guardians: Todoroki Shoto (see Hero file: Entropy)
Shiozaki Ibara (see Hero file: Vine)
Figures the daughter of two insanely overpowered heroes would have such an OP quirk herself. Although it would seem that she also had prior medical conditions.
- Ashido Sansei- DOB: 09/09/XX
Quirk: Acid Coat- Able to coat his body in various types of acid.
Parents/Guardians: Ashido Mina (see Hero File: Alien Queen)
Kirishima Eijirou (see Hero file: Red Riot)
Oh hell yeah! Red Riot!
- Sero Tobu- DOB: 21/12/XX
Quirk: Flypaper Hair- Able to manipulate and extend the strips of flypaper on her head
Parents/Guardians: Sero Hanta (see Hero File: Cellophane)
Wanizame Kaimen (see external school file)
Wanizame, wasn’t that the name of some support company?
- Yaoyorozu Mito- DOB: 14/11/XX
Quirk: Extendomorph- He can shift his forearms into a variety of objects and tools, provided he knows the atomic configuration.
Parents/Guardians: Shoji Mezo (see Hero File: Tentacole)
Yaoyorozu Momo (see Hero File: Creati)
Nothing that seemed too problematic here.
- Fukidashi Yusen- DOB: 30/01/XX
Quirk: Sensory Construct- able to construct illusions that fool two senses at a time. Constructs with touch-activated can carry up to 95 lbs.
Parents/Guardians: Fukidashi Manga (see Hero File: Comicman)
Jirou Kyoka (see Hero File: Earphone Jack)
Another illusion quirk, huh? Maybe he could get them to work together.
- Mineta Masanori- DOB: 14/02/XX
Quirk: Sticky Horns- Able to pull off the horns that grow from his head and stick them to any surface.
Parents/Guardians: Mineta Minoru (see Hero File: Grape Juice)
Tsunotori Pony (see Hero File: Rodeo)
Uncle had told him horror stories about this Mineta person, but Grape Juice was currently one of the top 20 heroes. He’d probably misremembered or thought it was a different student.
- Tokoyami Shizuko- DOB: 21/12/XX
Quirk: Shadow Puppet- Able to manipulate and travel through shadows. Power grows stronger depending on how dark the area is.
Parents/Guardians: Tokoyami Fumikage (see Hero File: Tsukoyomi)
Kuroiro Shihai (see Hero File: Vantablack)
This one could be trouble. Again, Kayama tried not to judge people based on their quirks, but… everyone knew what had happened the last time Dark Shadow lost control.
- Kumo Kentaro- 13/10/XX
Quirk: Spider Cough- Generates a random spider-
NOPENOpenope, moving on!
- Bunkatsu Tochi- DOB: 03/07/XX
Quirk: Mitosis- Able to split into a pair of identical clones that last 15-20 minutes before reforming. Clones can also split, the limit is 16.
Parents/Guardians: Bunkatsu Yonshi (see external school file)
Haihaihai Hebi (see former Hero File: Python)
Python, huh? He’d wondered whatever happened to her. She’d retired after reaching #5 in the Hero Polls without explanation. Now he knew!
- Midoriya Akihiko- DOB: 04/07/XX
Quirk: Glitterbomb- Constantly generates small amounts of glitter, can create flashbangs to cause temporary disorientation.
Parents/Guardians: Midoriya Izuku (see Hero File: Deku)
Aoyama Yuga (see Hero File: Can’t Stop Twinkling)
Holy shit, Gadget hadn’t been joking. THE Deku’s son was in his first-ever class… the pressure was on.
- Sato Kuribo- DOB:10/03/XX
Quirk: Power-Up- Able to grow mushrooms that, when consumed, bestow a variety of effects.
Parents/Guardians: Sato Rikido (see Hero File: Sugarman)
Komori Kinoko (see Hero File: Shemage)
What was this, an outdated video game reference?
- Kurakku Honeko- DOB?: 07/08/XX
Quirk: Contortionist- able to fold her body above and beyond human limitations.
Parents/Guardians: Watanabe Brothers Traveling Carnival (see Police file: Incidents of Unlicensed Quirk Use)
He had a bad feeling about this.
- Siegellack Virgil- DOB: 16/01/XX
Quirk: Wax Wings- Able to fly using wax wings sprouting from back (note: dietary requirements)
Parents/Guardians: Siegellack Ludwig (see German Embassy File)
Kerze Engelberta (see German Embassy File)
The son of the German ambassador? In his hero class? Apparently it was more likely than he thought.
Kayama looked over the files spread out on his desk and let out a sigh. Sure, there were a couple of students whose quirks could pose a problem, but overall this looked like a promising start to his teaching career. This was an opportunity he couldn’t possibly regret taking.
Right?
