Work Text:

“Okay,” Shoto sighs, holding Izuku’s camera up to his face. “This week’s video is going to be a little different.” He huffed a laugh. “I sound like ‘zuku, right now.”

Honestly, Shoto has no idea what he’s doing. He has some sort of plan, but really he was going all on instinct. He’s been wanting to plan something against Izuku for a while now, and what better way than the week before their anniversary.

“So, Izuku has no idea that I’m doing this, but this week I’m going to be pulling harmless pranks on him, just because I can, and because it leads to the bigger part of this week.” Shoto explains quickly, distantly aware that Izuku would be back from his run soon. “I’m not sure if you guys are aware, but our anniversary is coming up, and I have a very big surprise for Sunday night. I can't say what it is, but if I manage to succeed, then you should already know what the surprise is based on the title of the video, but anyway…” Shoto sighs, taking in a deep breath, not realizing he had been rambling.

“I’m basically stealing Izuku’s video idea from, like, a month ago where he spent an entire week pulling pranks on me, leading up to Sunday night where the final prank will be pulled along with the surprise I mentioned earlier. Hopefully, I don’t screw this up. Alright, I’ll see you guys later, I think he’s home.”

Shoto quickly shut off the camera after saving his short introduction, and placed the device on Izuku’s nightstand where it had been beforehand. Shoto fixes himself on their bed, grabbing his phone and begins mindlessly scrolling through a random app he tapped on to seem busy.

His boyfriend comes bustling through the door not even a minute later. “I’m back!” He chirps, sweaty and beautiful as ever. Shoto smiles at him leisurely from his spot on the bed.

“How did it go?” He asks, tilting his head up for a kiss that Izuku indulged him in.

“It was fine, I stopped by the bakery on my way back. I bought you some melon cake.” Izuku grins when Shoto’s jaw slackens.

Shoto loves melon cake.

“You’re amazing.” He breathes, tackling Izuku onto the bed and planting kisses all over his boyfriends face, trailing them down to his sternum.

Izuku lets out a string of melodic giggles, squirming in his place. “Sh-Shoto! Let me go, I need to shower!”

Shoto pouts, and tilts his head away from his boyfriend’s face. “Fine. Hurry up, so we can eat them together.”

Izuku leans up and presses a chaste kiss onto his lips, before playfully shoving him off. “I’ll be quick!” He chirps, before running towards the bathroom in a flash of green hair and limbs.

Shoto sighs dreamily at the sight of the closed bathroom door.

Although he really, really loves his boyfriend, he was going to prank him so good this week.

Shoto admits, he does feel slightly evil for the first prank on Monday, but he doesn’t think Izuku will take it too seriously.

“Okay,” He says into the camera. “Watch and learn how to pull an actual prank.” He sets the camera up on the kitchen bar, and presses the record button. Izuku wouldn’t find it weird, knowing he left his camera just about everywhere in their apartment.

As if on cue, his boyfriend comes waltzing into the kitchen, dressed for the day. Shoto immediately puts his prank into action.

“Morning, Sho.” Izuku smiles, kissing his cheek as he walks by him towards the fridge.

Shoto hums in response, and starts up his acting. “‘Zuku, could you open this for me. I’ve tried everything, and I can’t get it open.” He frowns, holding out a jar of peanut butter to his boyfriend.

Izuku peaks at him behind the fridge door, and shoots him a smile. He holds out a hand for the jar, and Shoto has to stifle a smile when he plops it into his boyfriends awaiting palm.

“You haven’t tried me. ” Izuku grunts, and tries twisting off the lid with absolutely zero luck. Shoto bites back a laugh when his boyfriend stares down at the jar in wonder before trying to twist it off again. “Okay, wait. You haven’t tried me .” He repeats himself, again it brings him no luck.

There was absolutely no way he was getting that lid off. Especially not, if Shoto super glued it on specifically for this prank.

He’s evil.

Izuku glares down at the jar. “What the freaking heck.” He mutters, then strips off his jacket. This time Shoto can’t help the laugh that escapes his lips.

“What’re you doing? It’s okay if you can’t open it, I’ll just eat something else.” He says, and is promptly ignored when Izuku once again tries to twist the lid off with more force, putting his entire body into it.

“‘zuku, seriously it’s fine.” Shoto laughs. “I’ll just eat a jelly sandwich.”

Izuku shakes his head. “No, you will have your peanut butter. If I can’t open it then I’m not worthy. ” He tries once more, and this time Shoto absolutely collapses in a heap of limbs into the floor, laughing so hard his legs gave out underneath him.

Izuku spends the entire morning trying to get the jar open, no matter how many times Shoto told him it was no use.

It was honestly the most fun Shoto’s had in a while.

Day two goes a little differently. It was a lot more heartwarming than funny, especially since Izuku had no idea of what was happening.

Tuesday’s prank went something like this.

The pair had both gone to the gym that day, seeing as they didn’t have anything special planned. Normally it was Izuku going to the gym, but Shoto didn’t want to stay home and be bored by himself, so he decided to tag along and be productive for once.

And he also saw an opportunity for his second prank of the week.

After their two hour workout, Izuku called it a day, saying he was hungry and ready for a nap. Shoto couldn't agree more, so they both got dressed and headed back to Shoto’s car.

As they buckled in, Shoto put his prank into action. He secretly sets up his phone camera behind his left thigh, and points it right at the passenger seat.

“What’s that?” He asks, squinting at something on the windshield that he put there himself.

“What’s what?” Izuku asks, looking up from his phone to look at Shoto, then in the direction Shoto was looking in.

“That.. paper on the windshield. Is that a parking ticket?” Shoto says, now pointing at the note.

Izuku hums, and steps out of the car, picking the paper out from under the windshield wiper, and bringing it back into the car.

“What does it say?” Shoto asks, already fully knowing exactly what his note says.

His boyfriend unfolds the note and begins reading it outloud. “You park— what the …” He trails off, silently reading the rest of the note. Shoto frowns, poking at his shoulder.

“What does it say?” He repeats again.

Izuku looks up at him with a pout. “I think someone was having a bad day when they left this.”

Shoto snorts softly. “What does it say?” He urges.

His boyfriend sighs forlornly, then looks back at the note. “You park like an a-hole. Learn how to park mother-effer.”

Shoto puts on a show. “Wow… that was a little rude.” He frowns.

Izuku immediately rushes to console him. “You park really well. I think they were just having a bad day today, baby.” He pouts, then leans over the armrest to kiss Shoto on the cheek.

He tries not to flush at the use of pet names, that meant Izuku was serious.

“You’re probably right.” He sighs.

“Don’t be upset, baby. I’ll make you Soba when we get home, so we can forget about this jerk. ”

If only he knew Shoto was the jerk in question. He laughs regardless, the promise of Soba tempting enough for him not to spoil the prank.

“I love you.” He smiles, starting up the car.

“I love you, more!” Izuku chirps beside him.

He’s adorable.

Skip to Friday night, takeout night, since they were both too lazy to cook. They usually got takeout once every few weeks, as to not get so used to fast food, but once in a while they would treat themselves to unhealthy foods.

Which is exactly what they were currently doing.

Shoto pulls into the drive-thru of their favorite fast food restaurant, and Izuku lets out a happy little whoop at the smell of his favorite meal.

What would you like to order today? ” The woman says over the speaker. Shoto leans his head out of the window, and places his own order.

“A chicken sandwich with a small order of potato wedges, and a large coke, please.” He says as Izuku begins tapping his shoulder rapidly.

“I want chicken tenders!” He whispers loudly enough for him to hear. Shoto pretends he doesn’t and aims a sneaky smile towards the speaker.

Would you like any sauce with that? ” The woman asks.

“Just barbecue, please.” Shoto answers.

“Babe, baby, I want tenders.” Izuku says, a bit louder this time, this time jostling his shoulder instead of tapping. Shoto’s starting to feel a little bad.

Will that be all? ”

“Yes, thank you very much.” Shoto says, and drives forward up the window.

“Wh—?! Shoto! ” His boyfriend whines, smacking his shoulder.

He looks over at him with a quirked brow. “What? What’s wrong?”

Izuku pouts, eyes drooping. “You forgot my order.” He sighs, slumping back into his seat. “Did you do that on purpose?” He mumbles sadly, picking at his nails.

Shoto’s eyes widen, and he immediately shuts off his phone camera. He stops behind another car in the drive-thru and looks over at his pouting boyfriend.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you, I swear.” He apologizes, hating seeing his boyfriend so upset. He must be really hungry.

Izuku looks up at him with the same pout on his lips. “I was literally shaking you.” He frowns.

Shoto blinks rapidly, and exhales sharply. “I’ll go around again, so we can order you your food. I promise, okay? I’m sorry.”

Izuku nods his head. “Fine. I forgive you, but you better not forget my order ever again, or I will break up with you.”

Shoto snorts, though doesn’t doubt it for a second. Izuku could be very dramatic when he wanted to be.

Sunday has finally reared its head. Shoto was extremely nervous. Like, the most nervous he’s ever been in his entire life.

First of all, it was his and Izuku’s 6 year anniversary. Though, that wasn’t at all what he was nervous about. Sunday was the final prank, which was also the day of his surprise that he somehow hasn’t managed to spoil himself.

He’s so nervous. He wants everything to go perfectly, but knowing him, something would go wrong.

Shoto has just finished making their anniversary cupcakes, a tradition they started on their second anniversary. Izuku really liked red velvet cupcakes, and Shoto liked whatever Izuku liked so it worked out for them.

Shoto always did the baking, and Izuku stayed off to the side, excitedly waiting for them.

This year would be a little different, though.

He makes Izuku wait in their bedroom the entire time he’s baking so he can prepare his surprise. Thankfully, his boyfriend doesn’t protest too much, though he did look a bit suspicious when he closed the door on himself.

When the cupcakes cooled down, Shoto slipped out a velvet back box from his pocket, and cracked it open.

A ring.

An engagement ring.

Oh Christ, he feels like he’s about to pass out. He has to do this though. He called Uraraka the night before for a pep talk that worked wonders on him. Even Bakugo yelled at him over the phone, telling him if he didn’t propose today, he’d go to their apartment and destroy everything they owned.

Shoto thinks that was just his way of looking out for Izuku.

That was way besides the point, though.

Shoto carefully takes out the ring, inspecting it closely. A silver band, with an emerald center. It was gorgeous. Shoto picked this one out specifically because it reminded him of Izuku’s eyes.

He lets out a shaky sigh, before turning one of the cupcakes upside down, and sticking the ring into the bottom of it. That one would be Izuku’s.

That was the final prank. Almost eating your engagement ring. Surprise.

He decorated the cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and finally called Izuku into the kitchen, after quickly setting up his phone camera where Izuku wouldn’t see it.

“Are they ready?!” He squeals, rushing over to the kitchen table, jumping up and down excitedly on the balls of his feet.

Shoto hums, grabbing his own cupcake. “They’re ready. Let’s make a toast.” He smiles.

His boyfriend gasps happily, and holds up his own cupcake. “Cheers to another 6 years!” He chirps, tapping his cupcake with Shoto’s.

“Cheers to forever.” Shoto rebuttals, and takes a huge bite out of his cupcake, Izuku following suit with a blush stained on his cheeks.

They stood around the table for a few minutes, chatting leisurely and eating their cupcake, everytime Izuku took a bite, Shoto had to squeeze his hand into a fist.

Just as Izuku bit into the bottom of his cupcake, Shoto finally reached out, his heart thumping out of his chest, worried Izuku would swallow the ring before he even got to see it.

His boyfriend blinks at him with a frown. “What’s wrong?”

Shoto swallows down the lump in his throat. “This is going to sound weird, but I need you to break the cupcake in half.”

The ring was in the very center. If he broke the cake in half, it would land on the table. No swallowing.

Izuku tilts his head to the side, confused. “Did you want some? You could’ve just asked if you did.”

Shoto snorts softly. “No, no. I just… need you to split it in half.”

Izuku squints at him. “You’re scaring me, you little weirdo.”

His heart thumps. “Don't say that, you’re making me more nervous than I already am.”

Izuku whines. “Well that just made me even more scared!”

Shoto groans into his hands. “Izuku, just open the cupcake.”

His boyfriend sighs loudly. “Okay, okay. I’ll do it fast, ‘cause I’m nervous. Ready?”

Shoto inhales shakily. Oh God. “Yeah. Ready.”

“Okay.” Izuku giggles nervously. “1, 2… 3!” He blurts, splitting the cake in half, and shutting his eyes tight.

A loud clink sounds in the room. It titters side to side before it finally lands on its belly. The ring. Shoto watches it in complete horror.

This is it.

“What was it?” Izuku asks, opening his eyes and finding nothing on the table. He pouts, then looks over at Shoto. “I swear I heard…” His eyes bulge out of his head when they land on Shoto, down on one knee, and holding a ring in his hand.

Shoto… ” He whispers, cupping his hands over his mouth.

Shoto swallows down another lump in his throat. “Hi.” He says, thickly.

Izuku lets out a wet laugh. “Hello.” He sniffles, then reaches down to cup Shoto’s cheeks in his hands. “Is this what I think it is?”

Shoto cracks a nervous smile. “What do you think it is?”

His boyfriend ( fiancé? ) hiccups. “A-Are you… pr-proposing?”

Shoto grins, his eyes beginning to feel hot with emotion. “Possibly. If that’s what you want. If that’s what you’re ready for right now. I-It doesn’t have to be a—“

“I-I want it!” Izuku exclaims, falling on both of his knees and tackling Shoto into a hug, squeezing him tightly around his neck. “I w-want this. I want it with you, Shoto.” He warbles.

Shoto desperately holds back the tears he knows are threatening to spill over his cheeks. “R-Really?” He whispers, wrapping his own arms around his boyfriend's waist.

Izuku nods into his neck. “Yes, more th-than anything.”

Shoto chokes on a laugh. “Okay. Let me ask you, then.”

“Okay, okay.” Izuku sniffles, then quickly pulls away from their embrace, wiping away his tears with the backs of his hands. “I’m ready.” He nods, locking eyes with him.

Shoto bites his lips to contain the dopey smile that threatens to take over his face.

“Okay.” He sighs. “Izuku, I adore you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Please, marry me?” Shoto asks, letting a single tear drip down his face.

Izuku lets out a strangled sob. “Y-Yes,” He nods rapidly. “I would l-love to.”

Shoto gets tackled into another hug, and it is very much welcomed. He’s still sort of shaking from earlier, having Izuku holding him so tightly feels grounding.

They hold each other close for about five minutes before Izuku’s pulling away with a huge, megatwatt grin on his face.

“We’re getting married!” He laughs, cupping Shoto’s face and pulling him in for a bruising kiss. “I love you so much.” He whispers against his lips.

Shoto grins into the kiss, and holds the ring up to Izuku’s face. “Can I put this on you to make it official?”

His fiancé laughs wetly. “I totally forgot about that part.” He giggles, and holds out his left hand for Shoto to grab.

He takes the ring, and carefully slips it onto his fiancé’s ring finger, placing a gentle kiss on top of the diamond before pulling away.

“We’re engaged.” He breathes out.

Izuku admires the ring on his finger. “It’s beautiful, Shoto.” He whispers, before pulling him in for another kiss. “We’re engaged!” He giggles giddily.

Shoto’s eyes widened in realization. He said yes. “Holy shit, we’re engaged.”

Izuku laughs at his reaction.

“I love you.” He whispers, suddenly overcome with emotion. “God— I… I feel so lucky right now.”

Izuku whines. “Stop, don't cry! You’re going to make me cry again!” He hiccups, already crying.

Shoto tackles them to the floor where they lay in a heap of limbs, tears, and kisses.

They’re engaged.

When the video of their proposal gets posted onto Izuku’s Youtube channel a week later, the internet practically explodes.

They received many calls that day, everyone but their immediate friends and family congratulating them on the engagement.

Wedding plans were already taking place, and Shoto could not be more happier with his life.

He’s marrying the love of his life, what more could he ask for?
