Chapter Text
Tamaki was jostled awake by Mirio lightly shaking him. He blearily took in his surroundings, and realized where they were.
Since it was their last summer before they went to college, Mirio and Tamaki had decided to go on a camping trip together. They planned on going to a campsite they used to go to as kids, back when times were simpler.
They had left fairly early, so Tamaki had ended up sleeping the entire car ride. Now that they had arrived, Tamaki rubbed at his eyes. He heard Mirio laugh silently, and he only got at the half-hearted glare Tamaki shot at him.
Once Tamaki was adequately awake, they got out of the car and went into the park office. While Mirio talked to the person at the front desk, Tamaki scopes out the gift shop. They had lots of cool stuff, and as Tamaki looked he came up with plenty of gift ideas for their other friends that didn’t come with them.
Mirio whistled to get his attention, and when Tamaki turned to him he saw Mirio holding up a set of keys, the ones that belonged to the camper cabin they’d be staying in. He walked back out to the car, and Tamaki followed.
The drive to the cabin was short. Since he had the key, Mirio got out first. He went to unlock the cabin door and returned to the car just as Tamaki was getting out. They got their bags from the trunk and carried them into the cabin, setting them down on the table inside.
The cabin had two bunk beds, the bottom mattresses on both being wider than the top. As kids they would always take the top bunk while whoever’s parents took them there would take the bottom, but now that they’re older they decided they’d stay on the bottom. Tamaki doubted the beds would be able to handle Mirio’s weight if he slept on the top anyways. Instead, they put some of their lighter bags up top.
“I’m gonna head back to the office and get some firewood, and when I get back we can start on lunch,” Mirio said. Tamaki nodded, checking the time on his phone. He didn’t realize it was almost noon.
Once Mirio left, Tamaki sat down on his bed and let out the groan he’d been holding in all morning. When Mirio had originally proposed the idea of them going camping, Tamaki had readily agreed. It wasn’t until after their plans were finalized that Tamaki realized what he signed up for. An entire week alone with the object of his affections. It sounds romantic, but to Tamaki it was nerve-wracking. In his mind, there was no way Mirio liked him back. If he made a wrong move or made Mirio uncomfortable because of his crush, then they’d be forced to spend the rest of the trip being awkward and uncomfortable with each other, then when they got back they’d split up and not talk to each other again and Tamaki would live the rest of his life without his sun and it would be all his fault-
Tamaki took a deep breath to calm himself. That wouldn’t happen. He wasn’t going to let his crush get in the way of having a good time with Mirio. Even if Mirio did find out Tamaki had a crush on him, he’d be too nice to let it ruin their friendship.
As Tamaki calmed back down he heard Mirio’s car pull up, signaling the blond’s return. He stood up and moved to the window. He saw Mirio walking towards the cabin, two bundles of firewood in his arms. When the blond noticed Tamaki he gave him a blinding smile. Tamaki blushed slightly and waved.
This week was going to be rough.
