Izumi felt like the entire world was falling out from under her feet as she looked at her black-haired teacher with wide, frightened eyes. She felt like she was going to scream but she couldn't form a sound, she couldn't even move as she blinked at him.
"I... I'm sorry, Mr. Aizawa, but... but what did you just say?" Izumi stuttered out as she looked at her teacher her voice sounding shaky and faint to her own ears as she wanted for him to repeat what he had just told her.
"You have a quirk," Aizawa answered softly trying to keep himself from becoming stoic and stern like he usually was knowing that that wasn't the way to handle anything right now. "And I'm not talking about One For All," He explained gently as he kept his hands where she could see them.
"No... No, I don't," Izumi gave out a shaky laugh as she tried to dismiss what he was saying believing it to be a lie.
She wanted it to be a lie.
She hoped it was a lie.
"Please be a lie," Izumi's mind whispered to her as she felt her nails press the fabric of her sleeve into her arm as she began to scratch herself. "Please, please, please be a lie," Her mind begged as tears stung the back of her eyes but she forced the feeling away as she kept her eyes on Aizawa.
She didn't notice the sky beginning to turn gray outside as rain clouds began to roll in out of nowhere.
"Yes, you do," Aizawa said moving towards her and away from his desk that he stood in front of her worry bright in his silver eyes as he tried to make sure she knew he meant no harm. "It's not a very powerful one mostly because it hasn't been trained but you do have one, Problem Child," He spoke his hands still out in front of him knowing that when Izumi got scared or when she became panicked she didn't like hands to be hidden.
"No... No, I don't," Izumi repeated, looking like she was about to start crying, her breathing becoming shaky but it was clear she was trying to get herself under control. "I can promise you that I don't," She said as she scratched herself a little harder making her finch ever so slightly as she felt her begin to dig through the cloth and into her skin.
Izumi jerked her hand away from her sleeve knowing that if she kept scratching her powder blue nails into her arm then she would begin to leave marks on her skin. She forced both of her hands to grip her skirt digging her nails into the cloth as she tried not to think about what Mr. Aizawa was telling her and what it would mean.
"How can you be so sure?" Aizawa asked trying to get Izumi to understand that everything he was telling her was true.
"Because when we went to the doctor they said that I didn't have a quirk, they checked and everything," She said trying to force the fear and worry away as she kept her eyes on her teacher. "They checked," She whispered as if she was trying to confirm it with herself.
Her words lacked any force behind them as tears of frustration and worry began to well up in her eyes.
The sky outside of the classroom windows darkened and thunder quietly rumbled all around.
"Izumi, they made a mistake," Aizawa explained softly as he looked at her trying to make her understand that she did have a quirk despite what she had been told.
"Who made a mistake?" Izumi asked, sounding so confused and small that Aizawa wanted nothing more than to wrap her up in a hug and protect her from the world, the world that had caused her so much pain in the past.
"The doctors," Aizawa explained trying to keep the anger out of his voice, anger that wasn't directed at his green-haired Problem Child but instead at the doctors who were too incompetent to do their job correctly."The doctors, they made a mistake and things got mixed up," He said as he reached out to place a hand on her shoulder in a way to try and comfort her as he saw the tears in her eyes.
"You're wrong," Izumi snapped making Aizawa blink at her in surprise as she pulled away from the hand that was nearly touching her shoulder. She pushed herself out of the chair that Aizawa had placed in front of his desk. Her hands left her skirt and went to grip the strap of her bag. "You're either wrong or you're lying because the only quirk I've ever had is the one All Might gave me," She said as she felt a hot tear slide down her face as her emotions were getting harder to control.
As the first tear slipped down her face and hit the jacket of her uniform the first drop of rain began to fall which turned into a light sprinkle.
"Izumi... " Aizawa started obviously hurt by her words but trying not to let them get to him since he knew she was upset. "Why would I lie to you?" He asked wanting Izumi to understand that the words he was saying were true. He wanted her to know that she could trust him and that she could trust his words.
"I said you were wrong or you were lying," Izumi clarified as she tried to ignore the hurt expression that had crossed her teacher's face. "I never said you were lying I said you might be," She said as she kept her eyes on the floor not wanting to look into Aizawa's eyes.
Izumi felt sick to her stomach from calling her teacher and one of the people she trusted most in this world a liar but she was trying not to listen to what he was saying.
"Izumi..." Aizawa started keeping his distance from his student since it was clear she needed space.
"I need to go to my next class now," Izumi said as she headed towards the classroom door more tears slipping down her face.
With every tear that hit her clothes, another drop of rain hit the window as the sky grew ever darker.
Aizawa looked at his Problem Child with a distraught expression across his face. He knew that it was in some way cruel to tell her the truth but he also knew that she needed to know that she had a true-born quirk.
"When you get sad it always seems to rain," Aizawa spoke softly feeling his heart break as Izumi stopped in her tracks her hand almost to the handle of the door.
"What?" Izumi asked as she turned her head to look at him with confused eyes but something in them showed signs that she knew what he was talking about.
"When you get sad it always seems to rain," Aizawa repeated as he looked at her with a sad look across his face. He starred at her as she turned to face him fully once more a range of emotions in her gaze as she looked at her teacher.
"Well, lots of people get sad when it rains," Izumi said with a shrug trying to deny what he was saying.
The wheels in her mind were beginning to turn as she thought about what he was saying. She felt her mind connect events of her childhood to different types of storms throughout her life.
Izumi felt tears start to slip down her face faster than before as things that had never made sense began to make sense now. She could hear the thunder rumbling outside this time louder than before as her breathing began to pick up.
She jumped as a hand was placed gently on her shoulder causing her to be pulled from her thoughts. Green eyes met dim silver eyes as she looked up at Aizawa who looked almost crushed which was something she had never seen on his face before.
"It rains because you're sad, Baby," Aizawa said gently as he gave her a small, sad smile which only confirmed what she was starting to figure out.
Everything Mr. Aizawa had been telling her was true, every little thing.
Tears fell down Izumi's face smudging her mascara and causing the black beauty product to leave streaks of black across Izumi's skin.
"It's all true," Izumi whispered as she looked up at her teacher who still had his hand pressed against her shoulder. Izumi looked dazed and scared almost like a kitten who was lost.
"I'm afraid so," Aizawa said his voice soft as he watched more tears slip down his student's face.
The storm outside began to roar to life causing lightning to flash and thunder to scream making Aizawa stiffen for a moment before relaxing as he kept his eyes on Izumi who looked sick to her stomach.
"B-But... " Izumi started a shaky breath leaving her as she tried to make sense of everything that was happening. "But if it's true then that means..." She trailed off as horror and anger darkened her normally bright green eyes.
"What does it mean?" Aizawa asked gently trying to let her know that he was there for her and that she could talk to him.
"Then that means that everything I've suffered through has been because... " Izumi cut herself off again the distant look in her eyes fading away as she looked at her teacher.
"Izumi?" Aizawa questioned moving his hand away from her shoulder in fear of making her uncomfortable.
"Are you telling me that the hell I've been through is because of a mistake?" Izumi demanded anger clear in her voice causing the thunder to boom outside. "Are you telling me everything that's ever happened to me is because of a mistake?" She asked tears coming down her face faster than before as her voice began to shake. "I was beaten, bullied, and tortured nearly my entire life because a few doctors decided not to have their lives together!?" She demands as her breathing grew heavy.
Aizawa's frown deepened as he listened to her start to suck in ragged breath after ragged breath clearly trying to get herself under control.
Izumi reached up and tried to wipe the black, stained tears away but all it did was smudge the makeup across her face as the tears replaced the ones she wiped away.
"Izumi..." Aizawa tried as he reached out for her but as he did Izumi spoke again this time her voice so small and so weak that it sent a strike of fear through the underground hero.
"I've been put through hell," Izumi whimpered as rain hit the window at a rapid pace making a small smacking sound echo through Aizawa's classroom. "Because of a mistake," She whispered her voice sounding broken as she wrapped her arms around herself as she lowered her head.
Izumi couldn't hold back anymore as anger, sadness, and exhaustion finally caught up with her causing her to begin sobbing softly as she hugged herself nails biting into the fabric of her jacket.
Before Izumi could comprehend what was happening she soon found herself wrapped up in Aizawa's arms being held tightly by the man who took care of her and her friends.
Izumi didn't even think as she removed her arms from herself and clung to Aizawa her nails sinking into the fabric of his shirt as she sobbed loudly into his chest.
Aizawa said nothing as he began to gently rock the girl from side to side where they were standing. He hummed soft and low in her ear where she could hear him over the storm she had caused as he ran his fingers through her long, messy green hair trying his best to give her as much comfort as he could.
Izumi felt weak and small as she sobbed into her teacher's shirt but she could do nothing else as she gripped tightly to him as if he was her lifeline.
Izumi sobbed harder as Aizawa held her as tightly as he could without causing her any harm. Her tears soaked through Aizawa's shirt as he begins to hum, a rumbling sound that matches something like thunder or noise a large cat would make.
Outside the storm created by Izumi's emotions ragged on unleashing all the anger and hurt she had felt since she was five years old.
