Wei Ying gets very drunk on New Year's Eve and wants to kiss a decidedly sober Lan Zhan for luck. Lan Zhan refuses, but promises to kiss him in the morning if he can remember their conversation...

My comments: This story spent way too long on my "Marked for Later" list, but I think it waited for the right time to be read by me and today, I really needed a classic modern Wangxian au, where they've been pining since forever and finally confess their love with little to no drama. Very somft, very horny, everything you want a good Wangxian story to be. There's also a sequel available, which is also really nice! Wei Wuxian gets to demolish Lan Qiren in mahjong!
Excerpt: “Aren’t you going to come inside?” Wei Ying asks, changing the subject. Lan Zhan does not miss the way he self-deprecates and then deflects the compliment. “We’ve got the champagne ready for midnight, and there’s sparkling juice for you!”
“No, thank you,” Lan Zhan demurs, knowing that Wei Ying will not take it personally. His best friend draws him into their circle, always offering to include him in everything, but he also understands when Lan Zhan has reached his limit, even though his own nature is entirely the opposite.
“But if you don’t come inside, how will I kiss you when the clock strikes midnight?” Wei Ying asks, donning a flirtatious pout. “I’m not wearing a watch, and I have no idea where I left my phone.” He pats his pockets theatrically, but he is wearing women’s jeans, slung low on his hips, and none of those pockets are actually large enough to hold a smartphone.
“You will not,” Lan Zhan simply, because what else is there to say? It is one of those conversations where he fears that every additional word will give him away. He is not as parsimonious with his words as he once was, having gained at least some social graces with age and experience, but the less said in response to Wei Ying’s teasing the better.
“But Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying whines. “It’s New Year’s. I have to kiss someone! And I want it to be you."
