Notes:

So I am not deaf but i do know a bit about the culture.

Also the grammar is not in ASL, it is different from english but for the sake of simplicity I left it in English!

I do plan on posting a long deaf Tsukishima fic but it's taking a little longer than expected so I wrote a little fic before it's ready.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Saturday morning practice finally finished, a long grueling practice finally finished. Tsukishima left walking to his home along the side of the road, feeling his music through his headphones, having his Karasuno hoodie zipped up as he walked through the cold of December.

He unlocked his front door, heading straight into a hot steaming shower. Kei got out changing into a hoodie and sweatpants. The air in the living room was frigid, everywhere was freezing cold.

Tsukishima went into the kitchen, grabbing a cup of steaming tea, and the plate of food that his mom made him for breakfast. The middle blocker left the plate on the dark wood-stained coffee table as he placed the tea next to his closed laptop, turning on some sheet music. Guitar in hand he began to strum the chords, feeling for the tuning.

He strung through the chords, looking at the screen as he went along with the notes. Feeling the vibrations through the instrument. The song finished, as he finished bouncing his head the tone. Tsukishima smiled as he put his guitar down for a minute, as he felt a weight on his shoulder.

Tsukishima jumped back looking around, finally turning around seeing Tadashi in front of him, the blonde slapped his shoulder, “You scared me.” Kei fell back onto the couch.

Yamaguchi went to sit next to him on the couch chuckling, “Sorry Tsukki,” He signed out, “That was good.”

Tsukishima gave a sigh of relief, “Thanks. Did you eat already?” Tadashi silently shook his head no, Kei rolled his eyes, “You should eat.”

Yamaguchi put on a face of disgust, “You’re one to talk. Let’s just eat.”

Both of the boys stood up, heading into the kitchen. Tadashi went to go grab himself a plate as Kei brewed another cup of tea. They went over to the couch, sitting down on the couch. Yamaguchi put the food down while Tsukishima put the coffee table up.

“Is it good?” Tsukishima asked, watching Yamaguchi eat.

“Yeah.” Yamaguchi responded.

Tsukishima turned on the television for the rest of the meal. Both of them ate while the T.V. blasted Animal Planet.

Tsukishima put the table down, cleaning up the dishes in the sink. Yamaguchi remained in the living room, looking at Kei’s laptop for the song he was playing.

Kei went to sit back on the couch, grabbing his guitar again, “What’re you looking for?” He asked, watching Yamaguchi scroll through his computer.

“I was looking at what you were playing,” Yamaguchi responded, “Are you practicing for anything in particular.” The pinch server had a soft look on his face.

Tsukishima shrugged, “Nothing really. Just bored I guess.”

Yamaguchi smirked, “Is something wrong, Tsukki. I know when you’re off.”

Kei leaned back in his seat, blowing his bangs up with his breath, “I guess,” Tsukishima sat up, sighing, “Are you nervous for nationals?”

“I mean I’m normally nervous for everything so yes, but you’re not one to be nervous normally.” Yamaguchi tilted Kei’s head up towards him.

“Well when it comes to nationals the competition gets harder, for most of the games we’ve already played I’ve been able to slide by getting a few blocks here and there, but if we lose were done like everybody’s done,” Tsukishima huffed, allowing his expression to sink, “When it comes to music, nobody’s here, it’s not like I can disappoint anybody. Plus I can rely on the vibrations and other tune indicators. I know I don’t show it but I am concerned about the third years. I don’t want to be the reason that they play their final game, especially if it’s for something dumb like I missed the ref blowing a whistle.”

Yamaguchi gave a blank stare, translating everything that Tsukishima said with his hands, “I wouldn’t worry, I mean if you were going to screw up a game really badly then coach would take you out.”

Tsukishima slammed his head on top of the back of the couch, coming back up with a smile, “I can’t tell if you were trying to help or not. If you’re not then you’re not very good at it.”

Yamaguchi laughed with him, “I never said that I was good at supporting people, quite frankly I’m not emotionally stable enough for this.”

Tsukishima gave a grin to Yamaguchi, “Thanks.”

“Anything else you wanna vent about? I sorta like it when you actually allow your emotions to come out, instead of storing then behind that well you put up for everybody.” Yamaguchi smirked.

Tsukishima started kicking Yamaguchi’s sides, “Shut up, Tadashi.”

They both began to chuckle, “I’m serious, you know you can talk to me. I mean you’re a pretty reserved person but I fully expect best friend privileges.”

“I know. And I’m not reserved, I just believe that I can solve my own problems.”

Yamaguchi fluttered his eyes, “B S,” He finger spelt, Tadashi stood up, shaking Kei’s shoulders, “Talk to me.” He announced, knowing that Kei couldn’t hear him.

Tsukishima slapped Yamaguchi's hands away from his shoulders, “Stop it!” He screamed, using his voice for the first time in a while.

Yamaguchi sat next to Kei on the couch, smiling at him, “You should talk more often.”

Tsukishima bit his lips out of spite, aggressively shaking his head, “No.”

“You mother fucking dick.” Yamaguchi aggressively slammed his hands down while he signed.

“I mean that’s sort of my branding,” Kei looked at Yamaguchi’s disgusted face, “Listen somebody has to be a quote on quote mother fucking dick, and I will happily take that position.”

Yamaguchi covered his laughter with his hand, “And you fill that role very well.”

“Well if I can’t hear at least I have the capabilities of being the biggest asshole.” Kei put on a straight expression.

“And you know what the first step to recovery is acknowledgment.”

“What the fuck am I supposed to be recovering from, I don’t think you can change the fact that I’m a shitty person.”

Yamaguchi smiled, “I don’t think you’re that bad of a person, I mean you haven’t murdered anybody or anything.”

Tsukishima copied his grin, “Thanks Tadashi.”

Yamaguchi bowed, springing back up, “Anytime.”
