Work Text:

Ranboo is a person. He has flaws, he has wants and needs, he can feel the tight grip of loneliness and the suffocating flame of anger and spite.

He has feelings, and he opens them up. He opens them up like a wide open door, inviting everyone in to see them. Inviting everyone to come in. Every time it ends in betrayal. And he still keeps the door open, open to let people walk in and make themselves at home.

Closing that door was probably the best and worst decision of his life. He slammed the door and only let a select few the key. His husband, his son, and his mentor. Two out of three of those ended in sadness. One left, slamming the door and never returned, and then burned the key in the bonfire of their own actions. The second kept it, the second kept the key close to their heart and never let it go. The third was reckless, the third left one day and accidently forgot to pack the key into their bags.

Ranboos a person. And he can feel the tight grip of loneliness. He's familiar with it, far more familiar with it than anyone should.

He remembers when it started, yelling and screaming. The sound of a chair screeching against the floor and the sound of a door slamming. Along with the message of: Tubbo_ left the game.

That first night was hell.

And then more people started leaving, in search for somewhere better. But he couldn't, he was stuck. Trapped, with the vines of responsibility holding him stuck to the ground while his friends flew.

Until it was only him. Everyone he's known, disappeared through the clouds. They all got to soar, into new adventures and new beginnings. While he's stuck, with no chance for escape. The ground wants him to stay, hold him down with ivory and cleverly placed roots.

And now it's just him and responsibility. Him and his son.

The next few years are the most grueling of Ranboos life.

Everyday was the same routine. Wake up, eat breakfast, take care of his not even 10 year son, find something to do, dinner, and sleep. Rinse and repeat. It was boring, only him and the thing trapping him on the ground in this slowly rotting world. Sometimes, the ender hybrid would walk past the large prison, stare at the red and green vines creeping up it. The only reminder of the one other person other than him. Rotting and wasting away in a prison, starving. Probably more lonely than he'll ever be.

Each day was another struggle. The red vines, with no more players left to infect went for animals and crops instead. Food was always a hard resource and more than enough of his beloved pets died. But life was good, decent,  livable.

Even though, each hour, day, week that passed an emptiness clawed at him. A want to fly, escape, and for the earth to let him go. A want for a new adventure, a new life, but responsibility always won him over.

The door to his feelings stayed shut, and the earth continued to hold him down, and the longing to fly stayed. The emptiness and the want for someone to talk to still grew, ever slowly like the vines creeping up every building he crossed.

And then, finally, the earth lets him go. He grows wings, and holds on close to his responsibility,  and jumps. He takes the jump off the cliff, and his wings catches him. He's finally flying, escaping to a new life and world.

Then he crashes.

He plummets and crashes into the ground, destroying his wings and making him stuck once again.

The earth will always hold him down one way or another.
