Old souls: one "peaceful" year

Summary:

After both their first and second year being incredibly hectic, Harry and his friends hope that this year, they'll finally have some peace, to just enjoy their education but it seems that's going to be harder than they had hoped as Dumbledore seems even more determined to get control over the school back as Salazar slowly drives him insane with little nudges to his past

Compare that with the fact that Merlin and Morgana now know that Morgause is somewhere out there and mostly aware of the situation, resulting in them becoming even more protective over him and his sisters and it's about time that Harry realises that the chance of him getting a normal life went out of the window the moment he was born

While her son is away at Hogwarts, Morgana starts a little investigation on her own with the goal of trying to find out what had happened to her brother's body and trying to find where the final pieces of Voldemort's soul are before it's too late

Chapter 1: A different world of magic

"Hi, Mrs Delacour."

"Oh, Harry! Look at you. You've grown so much since I've seen you. And so have your sisters" Apoline cooed over him, kissing his cheeks a few times and doing the same to Melody and Sapphira. Morgana and Merlin were both smiling at their children. Apoline's oldest daughter was next and she happily did the same, ruffling their hair after that and giggling when Harry gave her a scowl, knowing he didn't mean it

"Have you heard anything about your brother?" Apoline asked Morgana, remembering their unexpected meeting with Nimuë and Morgana shook her head. "No. My mother-in-law has returned, but not him or Gwen." She answered with a sigh. She had of course been overjoyed to meet the reborn Hunith, as had Horace obviously at she had been his sister, but seeing the siblings reunite made her wonder when it would be her turn

Apoline immediately rubbed her back, seeing that her question had upset her and Merlin wrapped his arm around her as well, knowing that the uncertainty about where either Arthur's body or soul could possibly be now was slowly driving her crazy. In all these years and centuries, they had mostly expected that he'd just wake up on Avalon and Nimuë would bring him back, but the spirits apparently had very difficult plans and threw everything into a big mess, leaving them scrambling to figure out what to do next while they waited for Arthur to give them some kind of sign.

The children thankfully didn't notice anything about their mother's sombre mood as they were running towards the place where they had met up: Disneyland Paris. Especially Melody and Sapphira were jumping up and down at the prospect of meeting several Disney characters, despite living in an actual magical place. Harry and Fleur, who were old enough to know the characters were actors, were more excited for the attractions

Despite literally living in France, the Delacour family had never been here before, so they were very curious about what this could be. Walking in, Morgana accidentally caused quite a funny moment when she was so busy looking on the map for the castle.... that she completely missed the castle standing right in front of her. "Is she actually missing that?" Apoline asked Merlin in a quiet tone and he chuckled in answer

"It's a Pendragon trait, I fear. Arthur never realised I had magic for a very long time. Even Lancelot and Gwen figured it out before him." He answered and she chuckled. "Fleur, why are so many people staring at you?" Harry asked as he noticed that especially men were looking at both her and Apoline. "That's because we're part-veela, Harry. As long as none of them declare their love for me, we're should be fine." Fleur explained with a warm smile, having grown used to it by now. Gabrielle thankfully was a bit too young for her heritage to have any effect on the men around them

Once Merlin finally pulled the map down to let his wife see that they had already reached the castle, both families took pictures of the other family standing in front of it once the Farys family, Merlin and Morgana having decided that would be their muggle last name explained to the Delacour how a muggle camera worked. Walking into fantasyland, Melody suddenly grabbed her father's hand with an excited gasp.

"Look dad, it's.... Merlin!" She called, pointing to where the Disney version of her father was standing for pictures barely being able to stop herself from saying "it's you" and the real one sighed deeply at seeing it With mischievous grins that would make the Marauders proud, Harry and his sisters pulled and pushed their father towards the actor in costume and Morgana followed them while laughing at her husband's misfortune.

Disney Merlin warmly welcomed the family once it was their turn, gently patting Melody and Sapphira on the head and ruffling Harry's hair without saying anything. "Again with the hair? Come on." The boy complained and they laughed once again as Morgana and the actual Merlin joined their children as well for the picture. Merlin was smiling as well, despite literally standing next to the example how muggles saw him now: a barmy old man like his Emerys disguise. An attendant made several pictures, before it was the turn lif the Delacour family and Gabrielle was giggling almost constantly

They went on the Snow White ride first, only to see that only four people fit inside the cart. Harry decided to go with Fleur in the next cart while his parents went with his sisters and Apoline went with Gabrielle while her husband went alone. The ride started out very cheerfully with the seven dwarves and Snow White having a lot of fun in the cottage, only for it to suddenly do a complete 180 and focus on the witch

Melody, Sapphira and Gabrielle immediately huddled closer to their respective parent in fear as they followed the witch through the scary forest until the moment she fell off the cliff while trying to kill the dwarves and if was suddenly a happy ending. Harry had an eyebrow raised when they rode out. "It's that I watched the movie growing up, otherwise I'd have no idea what just happened." He muttered as he joined his family again

"I never watched that movie, so I'm very confused. Could you explain?" Fleur asked as her father lifted a still frightened Gabrielle in his arms. They explained the story of Snow White while they walked to the next attraction about Pinnochio. Turned out it was the same kind of attraction and they had to explain that story too. Thankfully one of the other attractions they went on didn't have a story, but it did have very annoying music that got stuck in your head: "it's a small world." Morgana was already going crazy after a minute of it. 'The things I do for them.' She thought to herself

They soon met princess Ariel nearby as well and especially the younger girls absolutely loved her and had a great time talking to her as the princess kneeled down to their level. Not long after that, the younger children with Fleur's guidance went to try out the maze in the theme of Alice in wonderland and waved at their parents from the castle, their parents happily waving back from where they were eating something.

Going to adventureland next, they climbed the adventure tree and went on the pirates of the Caribbean ride which was more for Harry's taste than the girls, but they still loved it as they sailed past pirates and skeletons. "Someone should make a movie out of this." Merlin commented with a grin. "Come on, love. It would most definitely flop. Who would be the lead in such a movie? The guy who plays Edward Scissorhands?" Morgana snarked back.

Merlin simply rolled his eyes in answer and didn't say anything as their children giggled and the boat went on. "Yo-ho, yo-ho. A pirate's life for me." Harry sang underneath his breath with his sisters as they walked out again and their parents smiled at them, happy that they were having so much fun in this park. Going to frontierland once they were certain the was nothing more there, the Farys family and Fleur and her father screamed themselves hoarse in the rollercoaster big thunder mountain as Gabrielle was unfortunately too small to ride it and simply waited outside with her mother

After finishing that attraction, Harry really wanted to try phantom manor after reading it was about ghosts. After living in a castle with dozens of ghosts for most of the year and with his uncle being a werewolf, he figured that it couldn't be that scary. The younger girls skipped out on this one so he went with his mother and Fleur while Merlin, Apoline and monsieur Delacour waited outside and took the girls to eat something as well

While they had a lot of fun throughout the entire day as they walked through the park together and tried to do as many attractions as possible, all good things unfortunately had to come to an end and eventually, it was the parks closing time and they had to go back to the hotel for the night after eating dinner in the park. With both families being rich enough to afford it, they slept in the one and true Disney hotel

Thankfully for the Farys family, the hotel actually had a room big enough for a family of five with two double beds, one for Merlin and Morgana and one for the girls and one single bed that Harry took. Saying goodbye to the Delacour family and putting their children into bed once it was time for them to go to sleep and tucking them in with kisses on their forehead, Merlin and Morgana eventually went out to look over the dark park from the balcony that was connected to their room, getting a bit of private time that was very rare these days with three children living with them.

With no muggles watching them, they carefully conjured up some wine and two glasses, clinking them together with a grin and drinking it. "I have to say I had my doubts about this, especially since it only opened a bit more than a year ago, but the children had a lot of fun." Merlin commented as he held his wife close to him and kissed her forehead. She immediately smiled at him and kissed him properly.

"I honestly feel the same. Look at those smiles they had on their faces today while meeting the Disney figures. They really couldn't wipe them off even if they tried. This was a good way to start the trip." She agreed as she looked back to the room where her precious children were sleeping, before silence fell between them as they looked out over the darkness, both lost in their own thoughts, but still enjoying each other's company

They were curious what the rest of the vacation would entail
