Work Text:

Obi-Wan continued to drag his fingers through the curly mess of blonde hair that was curled up against his chest. His normally rigid posture was already relaxing from the simple smell of lily scented shampoo coming from the still damp hair.

"We could always get Anakin and Ahsoka to choose for us," Satine sighed, relaxing back against her husband, linking the fingers of his free hand with hers and resting them on the bump of her stomach.

"We are not letting those two idiots name our child, Satine," Obi-Wan laughed, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

"Obi-Wan," Satine laughed in spite of herself. "Don't talk that way about your family."

"It is because they are my family and I love them that I can say such things," Obi-Wan pointed out. "Besides, do you really trust Anakin to name our baby?"

"Yes, I do actually," Satine shrugged. "I happen to think he has rather good taste."

"And that's your mistake," Obi-Wan muttered to himself with a smirk.

"Shut up," Satine smacked his arm lightly with a laugh. "It's not like we have any other ideas."

Obi-Wan sighed at that one. She was right, they hadn't been able to decide on a single name yet, let alone enough to have a short list.

"And you still refuse to find out the gender," Satine added in a hushed voice.

Once again, she was right, a common theme with his wife, though not one he would be quick to tell her about. The doctor had given them the envelope despite the fact that they'd told her they wanted to wait to find out.

Just incase, she'd said, some couples change their minds and I would hate for you to have to wait until after the holidays to find out, she'd said.

They didn't have a problem with not knowing, they had decided to wait until the birth.

But that was before they had taken Obi-Wan's brother and sister into account. Anakin and Ahsoka couldn't stand the idea of not knowing and had somehow managed to worm their way into Satine's mind, convincing her that she too needed to know.

"I like surprises," He shrugged. "And you did too until we let Anakin and Ahsoka into the house."

"But they're right, Obi," Satine exclaimed. "What if we choose a name for a girl that I become attached to, and then we end up having a little boy. It just makes sense to know now so that I can plan."

"Which is why I said we choose a gender neutral name," Obi-Wan pointed out.

"You hated all of them," Satine laughed at him.

Another point in her favour.

"That's besides the point," Obi-Wan shrugged, tugging his wife closer and nestling his face in the crook of her neck. "And I didn't hate them, I just didn't think they fit our child."

Satine smiled at that, our child, our baby, it never failed to make her heart glow and her stomach flutter-

"The baby's kicking!" Satine sat up with a jolt, laying her hand on her stomach.

"What?" Obi-Wan jumped up with her, falling off the couch as he attempted to untangle himself from the blankets on the couch and scoot around in front of her.

"I felt it," Satine laughed at his panicked look, grabbing his hand and pressing it to her stomach. "Just wait."

Obi-Wan waited patiently for the kick, terrified that he might miss it if he did so much as blink.

"I can't-" Obi-Wan froze as he felt it, a tiny little high five from their child. Nothing else mattered in that moment, the rest of the world managed to disappear, it was just the three of them in their living room as the rest of time froze around them.

"Obi?" Satine's gentle touch to his bearded cheek pulled him back to reality as he looked at her with misty eyes. "Are you alright?" She smiled at him.

Obi-Wan didn't speak, he simply grasped the back of her head and pulled their lips together in a bruising kiss. Satine looped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, smiling against his lips.

Obi-Wan laughed once he finally had to pull away for air, wrapping his arms around his wife's waist and pulling her closer to him, pressing their heads together.

"I feel perfect," He assured her. "You are perfect, and this baby is going to be perfect."

"They will won't they?" Satine smiled, carding her fingers through her husbands ginger hair.

Obi-Wan nodded with a teary eyed laugh.

"So let's open the envelope," Obi-Wan shrugged.

"Really?" Satine's eyes lit up.

"Absolutely," Obi-Wan smiled.

Satine hurried away from him with a gleeful shout, hurrying towards the kitchen and returning a moment later with the envelope in hand.

"Careful darling, you might slip," Obi-Wan worried for his wife in those fuzzy socks she'd stolen from his drawer -not that he minded in the slightest.

"I'm fine," Satine huffed a laugh as she collapsed back on the couch. "You worry too much."

"I do don't I?" Obi-Wan admitted, he wondered if he would become even worse when the baby arrives. Definitely. "Go on, open it."

Satine was careful not to rip the envelope as she ran her finger underneath the seal, cautious even in her excitement. She pulled the paper out and stared at the folded parchment for a moment before flipping it open and letting her eyes scan the black penned letters before her.

"Well?" Obi-Wan asked, the anticipation getting to him. "What does it say?"

"I don't know," Satine admitted with a tilt of her head.

"What?" Obi-Wan waited for his wife to hand him the page before letting his nose scrunch at the scribble. "This is gibberish."

"Is that an e?" Satine pointed at the page.

"I thought that was a q," Obi-Wan returned.

"Why would there be a q next to a j?" Satine asked him.

"Why would either of them be on this page?" Obi-Wan tilted his head. "And I thought that was a t."

The two turned to look at each other for a few seconds of silence before the wheezing giggles filled the air.

And a few short phonecalls later, they had their answer.

"A girl?" Satine asked him.

"That's what they said," Obi-Wan told her, wiping the tears away from her eyes.

"We're having a girl?" She sniffled.

Obi-Wan nodded in return, words failing him in that moment. He grabbed her hand in his and pressed a kiss to her knuckle.

"We really have to choose a name now," Obi-Wan smiled as he kissed away the joyful tears that were trailing down Satine's face.

"I know," Satine smiled back, tugging on his hair to angle his mouth towards hers, enjoying this perfect moment by the fire with her husband.

And she wished for many more perfect moments for the three of them.

"But Anakin and Ahsoka are definitely not getting a say."
