"You ever seen Father Christmas, Connor?" Was the first thing Hank said as he walked out of his bedroom at 10am on a Sunday morning in December.
"The... myth?"
Hank gasped, pointing to Sumo. "Watch it, you're ruining his fucking belief systems."
"My apologies. I... haven't seen the man, no."
"Wha- oh, nah, I didn't mean that. I mean the film, Father Christmas."
Connor blinked, LED whirring as he did a quick search online for the movie.
"Ah. The animated one?"
"That's the one. Sounds like you haven't seen it."
"No."
"Alright." Hank smiled, clapping his hands together. "Looks like I know what we're doing this evening."
Nothing more was said on the matter until after dinner, where Hank grinned at Connor and reached in the cabinet beside the TV, pulling out the movie.
"You're gonna love this."
"It seems like you enjoy this movie."
Hank nodded. "Yeah, I watch it every Christmas. Not the greatest piece of cinema but the animation is sweet and... the memories, you know?"
Connor smiled. "I see. It's one of your Christmas traditions then, I can assume?"
"You got it. See, I promised ya I'd introduce you to some of the Anderson traditions."
"...oh."
"Huh?" Hank stopped, looking up from where he was crouched on the floor, putting the disc in the player. "What's that?"
"I'm... an Anderson, then?"
"Shit. Uh... didn't mean to let that slip."
"I thought as much."
"Look, just ignore me, alright? I-"
"I wouldn't mind being an Anderson."
"Oh..."
"...I was going to wait until Christmas to tell you, though."
"Yeah. Think I was goin' to wait till the end of the fuckin' century. Guess I won't need to save the adoption papers for Christmas day now."
"Yes."
"Wait, what?"
"Settle down and watch the movie, alright, son?" Hank chuckled at his shocked expression. "I was only kidding. Slightly. Actually, I wasn't at all. The papers are wrapped up with a bow an' everything. But-" before Connor could respond, he pointed at the TV set. "The movie's starting!"
"Hank-"
"Shh. Enjoy the tradition."
Connor sighed, shaking his head but conceding all the same, sitting back and looking to the screen as the soft animations came to life. Maybe once the movie ended, he didn't complain about what was said before, or even bring it up again. It... wasn't so bad, being an Anderson. Wasn't so bad at all.
