Tim is grateful Hood leaves promptly, in any case, because that means he doesn’t see Tim crawl the last few feet into his house.

[Jack and Janet die uneventfully— at the hands of a home intruder, at 3:41 in the morning on a Thursday. Two gunshots. Tim’s entire world comes to a screeching halt at 3:44, when he finds their bodies.]

    Summary

Tim shrugs. “I know his limits. Sometimes he just needs a little push in the right direction.”

“A push,” Damian echoes incredulously. “Jason Todd needs a push. The Red Hood. The same one who tried to kill you a couple years ago.”

“You’ve also tried to kill me, to be fair.”

“To be fair, it would not be wise for you to push me, either.”

After an injury benches Tim for a few months, he and Damian are forced to cohabitate until Tim recovers. Along the way Damian learns that there’s a lot he doesn’t understand about Tim Drake, starting with his total lack of self-preservation.

    Summary

“What,” Tim asked, genuinely confused, “is going on?”

Jason stared at him. Just stared. “Are you serious right now?”

Tim hesitated. “I mean—yeah? It’s Christmas, I get it. We did the Christmas Eve dinner thing last night. I thought we'd just... do something like that again tonight.”

Jason made a sound somewhere between a laugh, a scoff, and a cry of anguish. “Dude.”

    ----------

Or: It’s Tim’s first Christmas with the Waynes. He makes a solid effort to enjoy the present while very deliberately not examining the past too closely.

    (This strategy does not hold.)
