Work Text:
Izuku Midoriya has always been an exceptional child. He was smart, analytical, cunning, brave, and what most has described as having the true essence of a hero. He was mentored by Aizawa Shota, an infamous underground hero that found him during his weakest times. He was Nedzu’s personal student, the principal taking him under his paws after reading his notebook analyst.
However, what made him exceptional from the rest of the student body was that he was quirkless. So, imagine everyone’s shock when out of all Aizawa’s students for the year, everyone was expelled except for him.
Now, the students of Class 1-A are totally aware of what happened to Aizawa’s class from the previous year being expelled. What they didn’t know was that one managed to survive.
And now, here he is. Sitting at Aizawa’s seat with Starbucks coffee in his hand and a phone with his other; carelessly sipping his drink, his eyes focused on his screen.
The students looked at each other before glancing curiously at the mysterious teen. They felt conflicted, unsure of what action to take. It was already a minute away before the class starts. No one wanted the risk of expulsion if none of them were in their seats.
Uraraka eyed their class president, staring intently at him before gesturing to the student at their homeroom teacher’s desk. “Do something,” she whispered, covering the side of her lips from the teen.
Iida nodded, opening his mouth before deciding to not speak instead. He, too, was scared of their homeroom teacher after all. Not after the stunt he just did with the Hero Killer: Stain. He was on thin ice, and he wasn’t going to risk that just to tell off a random student.
“Kami, I really need to talk to ‘Zawa-sensei about this,” Izuku clicked his tongue, sitting upright, which made the younger hero students flinch. Their breathings hitched and their body frozen in place. That finally took his attention off his phone.
He looked up, his eyes wide and his mouth forming an ‘o’ shape. “Oh right, I was supposed to supervise you today.” he chuckled awkwardly before standing up from his seat.
Iida quirked his eyebrows and immediately raised his hand, “Excuse me! But what do you mean by supervising us? Will Aizawa-sensei not be able to attend today’s homeroom?”
“Bingo.” he hummed, setting down his branded coffee. “‘Zawa’s busy with a mission,” he explained, “He’ll come back a day or two, don’t worry,” he added, giving them a cheerful smile to ease their worries.
The room burst into whispers and murmurs, leaning against their desks to talk among themselves. The majority of them frowned, their brows furrowed with solemn looks on their faces.
“I hope his mission goes well.”
“I wonder what kind of mission is it?”
“Why does he have to leave for almost two days though?”
“Argh! Aizawa-sensei definitely should’ve told us! I wonder what mission he’s doing?!”
“Whatever it is, maybe it’s something super manly!”
He smiled, relieved that someone else cares for his mentor. He was fully aware of how Aizawa treasured these kids like his own. I mean, how can he not when they went through hell and back to help each other? It was cute, it was almost endearing if he wasn’t so jealous of them a bit.
It was like being an only child for years before another sibling appeared out of thin air, taking off all of their attention away from him. But alas, what can he do?
A lot, actually. But he'll get on to that on another time.
He clasped his hands together to grab their attention. “Enough gossip, we have an agenda to attend to.” he chirped, grabbing a pile of paper under the desk.
The students looked confused, all with the expression of bewilderment. Honestly, who could blame them?
“I am Izuku Midoriya from Class 2A, The Green Hero: Dekiru, and yes I know it is not creative but its practical, ” he said in a cheerful voice before gliding across the room, giving each student a piece of paper from his pile. “I am this class’ older brother, in a way. I take pride in being the sole survivor of ‘Zawa’s purge last year. The only student taught by him last year until now.”
Was that part necessary? No. Does that feed his ego? Definitely.
“Uhm, Midoriya-senpai, I thought everyone was expelled last year?” Uraraka asked.
The rest nodded in agreement. “Yeah! I thought some of them moved to the general course?” Kaminari added.
Izuku gasped, stopping in his tracks to look at them, “Aizawa did not tell you?!” he squeaked, mouth gaping open from the information, gone the cutesy nickname.
“Ahm, no?” Uraraka winced.
He huffed, resting his hand on one of the student’s tables and putting his other hand on his hips. “First of all, I have to talk to Aizawa about that. How dare he not brag about me? His favorite student?”
The class deadpanned.
“Second of all, I’ve been the one saving your asses since the school year started. Actually, even before that. Ashido and her friends from that thug, Kirishima and Shinsou from their bullies, Katsuki from that slime villain, the USJ attack, Iida with– Actually, no. I can’t say that one.” he swayed his hand as if he was brushing it off, “Anyways, you get the point!”
“Wait– Are the one with a bunny hero costume?!”
“I thought your name was Deku?!”
“Wow! That’s so manly, senpai!”
“As class president, I must thank you for helping our class during our lowest!”
“That’s so cool! I didn’t know Aizawa had a student last year!”
“How does it feel like to be Aizawa’s only student?”
He grinned, gladly taking all of the attention from the people he had saved. But, imagine asking for validation from students younger than him? Pitiful, he thought to himself as he wipes an invincible lone tear dripping down his cheek.
“He’s weird,” he heard one of them whisper. He ignored it.
“Back to the point. I’m tasked by your homeroom teacher to supervise you. He has given me the authority to do as I wish. That includes, of course, the decision to expel students I see fit deserving of such punishment.” his lips quivered, trying his best not to let out an evil smirk from how these students flinched.
That wasn’t true, of course. He had no authority of doing such a thing. He was just doing it for fun. He thought with a grin.
“Okay, everyone received their papers yet?” he asked as he settled the last paper to the last student’s desk. All of them nodded, answering with “Yes, senpai.”
He returned back to the teacher’s desk, taking a sip from his Starbucks coffee before returning his attention back to the class. “Alright, in that paper is a fully detailed instruction on how to use guns.”
“WHAT?!”
“Why would we use guns?!”
“What is the gun for?!”
“Cool! Are we going to use them for training?!”
“I don’t think we can use guns yet.”
“I think we’re not even supposed to hold guns…”
The class was filled with uproars.
Izuku ignored them, grabbing his phone before scrolling mindlessly. He hummed to himself, finding the voice record file before pressing one of them to play.
“Enough!” Aizawa’s angry voice rang from his phone and everyone immediately stay still. Their hands firmly pressed on top of their desks, their backs straight, and their eyes focused in front of their room.
The room was suddenly quiet. As if they weren’t just gossiping among themselves just seconds ago.
He blinked, tilting his head to the side from their immediate reaction. “Holy heck, do you all have PTSD from ‘Zawa or something?” he asked amused, but mostly concerned because what the hell?
None of them answered.
So, as any wise man would do, he just took another sip from his coffee while awkwardly eyeing each student. After that, he cleared his throat. “Anyways…” he started, placing his phone beside his coffee. “Why do you think I’m giving you these instructions?”
Iida raised his hand, and Izuku nodded at him to answer.
“I believe it is inappropriate for us to have these instructions just yet! We’re still students and too young–”
“Wrong answer!” Izuku chuckled, cutting him off. “It’s because you can’t always rely on your quirks! Say ‘Zawa removed your quirk, what will you do then if you’re too heavily reliant on your quirks?” he asked, raising his brow. “Imagine you’re faced off with someone with a quirk you’re totally at a disadvantage, or in a situation where using your quirk would do more damage than help. What will you do? Just try your best and hope it will work out? Plus Ultra and all that shit? Just because everything you’ve faced off so far all worked? Hmm?” he asked, leaning against the desk with a taunting smile on his face.
Some of the students tried to protest but he just ignored them.
“Well, sorry to burst your bubbles but that’s not how this world works. There will always be someone that will always die in the field. Whether it’s you, your peers, a civilian, or the villain. Sure, there are low and petty villains here and there that don’t need extreme measures. But even those end up violently.” The smile on his face had already faded, his eyes dull and the tone of his voice sharp. “It’s kill or be killed. Whether it’s with the ‘Save to win and win to save’ motto. The fact that not every hero fight ends in victory will always be a fact that will remain. It’s not a victory if someone innocent has died. It’s not a victory if you died.”
The room went silent. Some of the students have their heads down, some biting their lips from the teen’s small speech, while some of them remain stoic but their eyes in distress.
Izuku sighed, shaking off the tense atmosphere. “That is why I’m going to teach you how to use guns!” he cheered, throwing colored confetti from who-knows-where.
Asui grimaced when one paper fell into her tongue which Izuku immediately apologized for.
“Remember Shigaraki from the USJ? Just shoot off his hands! No hands? No quirk!” he cheered in glee, “And Stain? Just shoot him in vital places that can make him stop! For example, shooting his arms so he can’t use his sword skills. He’s just a Zoro-wannabe anyways.”
“Who the hell is Zoro?” Sero asked with a bewildered expression. Izuku ignored him.
“Sure, you can rely on your quirks for the other stuff. But why be complicated when you can finish it off in an instant? Guns are always the answer!” he beamed ecstatically.
Now that concerns the whole class. Who the hell advertises guns to teenagers?!
“You’re insane!” one of them voiced out, but he couldn’t care less.
He was about to make another remark when the door slid open. His head perked to the side and he immediately grimaced, “Oh shit.” he cursed, grabbing his Starbucks coffee from the table and putting his phone in his pocket.
“Problem Child.” the new arrival grumbled.
He grinned, doing a two-finger salute while taking the last sip from his coffee, “Glad to see you awake, ‘Zawa! As much as I want to have fun and chat with you, I have a class to attend with our beloved Nedzu– Eek!” he squeaked, dodging his mentor’s capture weapon in panic.
“But I thought Aizawa-sensei was on a mission?!”
“What the hell is happening?”
“It’s too early for this.”
“Hello, Aizawa-sensei!”
“He was! He was on a sleeping mission! Present Mic– Eep! I’m sorry! It was his order!” Izuku cried, letting out a gasp when the capture weapon grabbed him by his feet. “Oh Kami– Off!” he winced when his whole body slammed onto the cold, hard floor with a whine.
The rest of the coffee spilled from the floor, staining his uniform like a sponge. “My coffee! I could take another sip from that!” he screeched.
“You drugged me with sleeping pills, Problem Child. I could sue you for that.” Aizawa hissed, his eyes glowing and his hair glowing in annoyance as he drags him closer by his scarf.
Izuku sniffed, holding his nose with teary eyes. “I think I broke my nose from that, I could sue you, too! Gah! No! No! I’m sorry!” he screamed when he got too close enough with his mentor.
Aizawa dragged him until they were outside. The whole class has their mouth agape open, processing what they just had witnessed. The door closed along with the older teen’s cries for help.
Finally, someone caught on and finally spoke.
“What the fuck is Deku-nii doing?” came from a spikey blonde-haired teen.
“DEKU-NII?!”
But alas, that story is for another time.
