my phone rings. a random number is calling. it’s february 2nd, tori is in her room.
i pick up the phone and answer it.
‘hey, it’s michael. michael holden.’
‘hey!’ i say. ‘how’d you get my number?’
‘tori.’
‘oh, that’s obvious.’ i laugh.
‘can i have some advice?’ he asks.
‘uh, sure!!’
‘wait.’ he says. ‘are you near tori?’
‘she’s in my room and i’m in mine, i could go outside if that’s better?’
‘could you? it’s stuff about her i don’t really want her knowing.. at least not yet.’
i kind of know where this is going already.
‘yeah.’ i mute myself and then walk downstairs and then outside the door. my mum gives a questionable look but i don’t say anything.
‘what’s up?’ i unmute myself.
‘i think i like tori.’
yep. now they have BOTH came to me to talk about eachother in the same week. i love tori though, so i’d never tell anyone anything she asks, or very obviously wants to be kept a secret.
‘you should ask her out on a date then.’
‘i don’t know where to go.’ he mumbles. ‘i’d take her ice skating but i feel like that’d be hard and she probably wouldn’t like it.’
‘i think she really likes being around you. i know she’s going through alot right now, like with solitaire or whatever. she just has seemed so much more happier when she gets back from hanging out with you.’
‘i feel like she hates me sometimes.’
‘i can confirm that she doesn’t. she’s been talking to me about you for like a week straight.’ i laugh.
‘really?’ he asks.
‘yeah, she’s told me alot about you. i’ve never really seen her enjoy being with someone in years.’
michael laughs. it’s very obvious that he’s smiling because it’s that type of laugh people do when they smile.
‘i’m really nervous to ask her out on a date though. i’ve thought about it so many times but.. it just — seems so hard.’
‘i understand. maybe if you’re nervous about putting it into words, you could just, go for it? kiss her? maybe at the right time. and if she doesn’t feel the same way as you you can just play it off as that you didn’t mean it and it just felt right and you didn’t mean it to come off as a romantic way.’
‘that sounds just as worse.’ he laughs.
‘well,’ i say, ‘sometimes it’s the best way.’ i think back to me and nick. our second kiss. nick just went for it, and here we are.
‘i truly think she likes you.’ i say. ‘you’ve helped her through alot of things, too. like i said, she’s been starting to get in a really bad place and although i’ve just now started noticing it, she’s been getting worse, but you’ve helped her out of it alot.’
‘i’m glad.’ he says. ‘i’m really glad.’
‘you should go for it. kiss her.’
‘i’ll think about it. thank you for the help!’
‘anytime.’ i say.
‘have a good evening! goodbye.’
he hangs up the phone and i shove my phone in my pocket, returning to my room. tori and michael both like eachother and they might end up dating. tori won’t be alone like she expected to when she was younger.
