Work Text:

Sitting. I waited. Honestly it feels like I’ve been waiting forever. Buses and cars move past my face, their buzzing lights only made my vision more blurry. Blobs of tears stream down my face. I let them fall, there's no reason to wipe them right?

My life sucks, kind of. I guess it’s not so bad. Ever since my father died I’ve felt almost alone. All I have is Peter and MJ around, but it’s not the same. Owning and running this stupid oscorp crap is super hard and I really can’t handle it anymore. I know I'm not a kid, and it’s not like my father was around all that often to make me want to miss him either. It’s a natural kind of thing right? My mom never lived past my first birthday and my father’s been pushing me around since then.

I don’t blame him. It must really suck having to run a company and take care of your good for nothing son.

I forgot what I was waiting for in the first place.

One more choke and hiccup later, I stood up from my spot at the bus stop. I knew damn well I wasn’t waiting for the bus. Dragging my feet against the concrete of the sidewalk, I quickly wipe my eyes despite my best effort for it to just go away. I walked with my hands in my pockets for a few blocks before making it to my living space after my father left me after his death.

The elevator creaks and buckles as it moves up to the third floor. Each shake and tremor reminds me how much I really gotta get someone to renovate that thing, seriously…

The elevator rings and I step into the hallway, Bernard is standing there, almost like he was waiting for me. In his hand he holds what I assume is mail and–

“Harry, It’s letters from–” Bernard starts.

I hate it, I hate letters and I hate reading them and I hate this stupid job.

“Not right now,”

“It’s quite important Harry.”

“I said not right now,” I drop my bag on the floor next to the elevator. I shove past Bernard, those letter’s still tight in his hand.

“By the way Harry, P–”

“I said, not right now.” God, how many times do I need to repeat myself? Do I need to say something every second for people to listen?

My shoes squeak against the tiled floor, I could hear Bernard walking to do something behind me. I sigh once I make it to the door of my room. Pushing past the door, I step in. I take off my shoes and throw them on the rack next to the door before switching the light on.

There stands Peter Parker. Why he was standing in the dark, I dont know, but it sure as hell freaked me the fuck out. I shout.

“Peter! What the fuck are you doing?!”

“Woah! I just came to visit you buddy!” Peter says, he’s holding something in his hand.

“And standing in my room in the dark at twelve is the best you can do?” I sigh, pushing past him and sitting down on my bed. The sheets are freshly washed, I can tell because the stains that were there previously are gone.

“Listen Harry, I know things have been tough but you gotta work it out man.” Peter says, turning around to look at me. His face shows concern. Peter has always cared for me in this way, I guess it was something to do with the whole ‘brotherly bond’ thing we have going on.

“Peter, I really don’t need to be hearing this right now.” I say, scratching my head.

Peter looked down at what he’s holding in his hands. He stretches out the piece of crumbled notebook paper. Immediately I recognize what it is. For fucks sake. I stand up and snatch the paper from his hand.

“This wasn’t meant for you.”

“It had my name in it.”

“It was in the trash.”

“It was on your floor!”

I look down at the paper, the words are smudged around with the drops of my tears. I honestly just forgot I even wrote this. Words like Peter, father, MJ, oscorp are legible… barely. I rip the paper in half.

Peter grabs me by the arm, “Harry- If that's how you feel you know I’m always here to talk.”

I flinch, “You’re not always here Peter.”

“What?”

“Don’t you get it? You aren’t always here. It feels like I'm sitting around doing nothing, I’m sitting around wasting my life away on a corporation I hate.” I say, flinging my arm away from him.

Peter redacts his hand. “I’m sorry,” he says. “I just have no time anymore.”

“I know you don’t, and neither do I.” I say, looking away from him.

“I just– I just really need you to know that everything will be alright.”

This makes me mad, unbelievably mad.

“I don’t need to hear it.”

“What?”

“I don’t need to hear that everything will be alright from Peter Parker of all people.” I say, my tone increasing.

“What are you even saying?”

“What I’m saying is, I don’t need to hear anything from Peter Parker. Peter Parker who always bounces things off.” I feel myself getting more mad. I stand up and walk around my room. “Peter Parker who always does and gets things right. Peter Parker who was my fathers favorite son.” I stop, facing Peter in his face. His eyes are wide and he’s giving me that stupid expression ive seen a million times before.

I sigh.

Peter grabs me from the shoulder, before pulling me into a hug. It’s a bit awkward at first. His body pressed against mine. I take another deep inhale while in this embrace, filling it out more slowly. I put my arms around him, completing the hug. We stand like this for a few more seconds until Peter lets go.

“I’ll go now.” He says, grabbing his bag off the ground and walking towards the door. Just as he’s about to make it out I grab him by the wrist.

“Wait, Peter–” I say, “Don’t.”

“Don’t what?”

“Don’t go… stay with me, just for this one night.” I say completely not thinking. Peter turns around to look at me, he continues to just give me that stupid blank expression.

Peter drops his bag. I smile. I walk to the bed, and lay down. Peter stands for a second before realizing what I was doing. He drops his bag on the floor and shuts the light off. He approaches the bed, sliding in next to me. I turn around to face him.

We stare at each other before laughing, just like we did when we were kids. Somehow in this moment, everything felt okay.
