“Scar, look at me.” Grian said, pickax poised, “look directly at me.”
“Okay, I’m looking directly at you.” Scar spared a glance up at the drip stone above him, fasted onto the branch of the tree behind him, before squaring his eyes on Grian.
“Scar, are you looking?” The exasperated look on the avian’s face was mirrored through his wings. Dark grey feathers for this game. A game of soulmates and lives.
Scar didn’t really mind not finding his yet. He can find his later. But the giant Jellies, an illusion he fixed over his own eyes to cover the horrendous pandas, they were his chosen soulmates. And the allay that flew away somewhere. Wonder where that went.
But back to the Jellies. He couldn’t help but turn to the two next to him, cooing over how cute they were as he handed them bamboo to munch on.
“Look at them!” He said, right before a sharp pain from above caused him to wince, biting back a gasp. He knew that was going to happen. Grian’s predictable that way, with him telling Scar to stand under the drip stone.
“Scar!”
“Sorry, I’m looking at you.” Scar looked back over, “I’m looking at you.”
“You didn’t notice-” Grian sighed, moving to put the drip stone back above Scar. “Okay we gotta do this one more time.”
“Gotcha.” Scar looked up, his transparent wings flapping in nervousness. Four hearts down was fine, but another turn under the drip stone meant eight.
“Okay,” Grian repositioned himself in front of Scar, a stern look on his face. “Look at me.”
“I’m looking.” Scar repeated, staring Grian straight in the eyes as Grian knocked the drip stone out again.
They say eyes are the window to the soul. Scar can’t deny that saying, as the drip stone crashed harshly into his shoulder, he could see the pain in Grian’s soul through his eyes as more pain erupted from Scar.
They stood there for a few moments, breaths in sync as what just happened rolled through Scar’s mind.
In honesty, Scar should have seen it coming. Why else would Grian keep coming around to Scar, sticking around? The only time he’s done that before was in third life. But that was because Grian gave his first life in debt to Scar. Which was kinda like a soulmate situation, if you can call it that? Not like Last life, where Grian stole and abandoned Scar the first chance he got.
But as Scar is looking into Grian’s eyes, understanding rushed over him, and he buried his face into his hands.
“ Oh my god.” He muttered, Grian laughing in the background.
“Did you know this whole time?” Scar asked, peeking through his fingers to look at Grian.
“This whole time!” Grian said, laughter still in his voice as he clutched his pick as if it was all that was holding him up from collapsing on the floor laughing.
“This whole time-“ Scar abandoned hiding his face to wildly gesture, Pacing around in front of the tree. “We’ve been parading around the server, and you knew this whole time .”
“Why do you think I’ve been concerned for your health and safety?” Grian asked, putting his pick away as Scar whipped around to face him. “I can’t believe… that you didn’t know it was me. I thought you were joking this whole time.”
“I legitimately didn’t know it was you.” Scar said. He stopped, and thought back. “Though, in retrospect, I should have figured it out.”
“In retrospect- Scar, I literally said we were soulmates, and you were too busy chasing fairies!”
“Yeah, that allay was rude for running away from me.”
Grian sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Okay, Scar. I’ve been setting up a base for a while, cause I knew you’d be not setting up a base-“ he gestured behind Scar, who turned around to see the sparce jungle with the giant Jellies laying around.
“No- no. I got a cave,” Scar interrupted him, gesturing towards the vague direction of his little hole in the ground. “and I have some wheat.”
“I’ve got some sheep,” Grian countered, wings folded close as he started walking uphill, further within the map, “chickens, wheat, and I’m building a sick wall.”
“I saw the wall.” Scar said and he fiddled with some nearby vines, climbing a little bit to stay taller than Grian. “That was really nice but.” He sighed, turned to look at the jungle and its residents, before glancing at Grian. “Do we need to base together?”
“It might be nice ?” Grian said as Scar hopped off the vines, fluttering down to the ground as he laughed and bounded towards some of the giant jellies. “I could look out for you.”
Scar didn’t really pay any mind to what Grian was saying, instead paying attention to petting the first Jellie he got to.
A sharp pain alerted him, and he turned back to where Grian was running over fishpole in hand, Scar’s laughter unwavering.
“Scar!” Grian pulled the fishing pole back as he backed up, giving Scar a fight as he was pulled back away from the Jellies, a familiar pull from a certain death from Last life dragging him.
“Oh my.” Scar said, trying to untangle out of the fishing line as he was continuing to be pulled towards Grian. “That actually packs a big punch.”
“You, you!” Grian repeated, dragging Scar along, “are coming with me.”
“I can’t leave them.” Scar said, cutting off something Grian was saying, looking back at the Jellies.
Grian sighed as he brought Scar up next to him ontop of the hill. “I was about to say this was going to be a short game. it’s going to be a long game. But not really too many days of this. Come on.” He continued walking, pulling Scar along as Scar continued to try to untangle himself. “I’m very proud of you for not dying. Come on, it’s the end of the session.”
“Can we bring them with us?” Scar asked, looking up hill at Grian. He made sure to put on his pleading voice, eyes wide as he could. Jellie could get away with a lot of stuff by giving him wide eyes, so it could work for him, shouldn’t it?
“No- maybe. I dunno. If we have the time.” Grian said, pulling him along. “Come on. Maybe next time.”
“Alright.” Scar turned around to look towards the jungle, just out of sight behind a hill. “Goodbye Jellies! I will come and get you!”
Grian sighed as Scar started skipping back to him. “What am I doing?”
“Oh you know.” Scar said with a smile. “Keeping me safe and all.”
Grian gave Scar a flat look. “I knew that.” He said.
Scar just laughed.
This was going to be a fun game.
