AkiRui and the bespectacled Menace

Summary:

Rui seems to lose his glasses every ten minutes. He gets an idea and shenanigans ensue. Akito suffers (but what else is new).

Work Text:

“AKITO! HAVE YOU SEEN MY GLASSES?” Akito is rudely woken up by his husband’s yelling. He groans and sits up. Sleeping on the couch isn’t good for his neck anyway. “NO. WHERE’D YA LAST SEE THEM?” Probably on his head again, he thinks to himself, giggling a little. Just a week ago, Rui had been searching the whole house for them, only to find them there. Akito hadn’t been much help either, just laughing at his predicament. “I DON’T KNOW! THAT’S THE PROBLEM.” It’s not like Akito doesn’t understand Rui’s frustration, but it’s still really funny when he does that. Akito thinks glasses are overrated anyway. They take pretty frequent cleaning and it’s not like either of them has debilitating bad eyesight. Plus they have contact lenses. Still, Rui does need his sometimes, at least when he doesn’t want to wear contacts. It’d be bad if he screwed up on his builds and hurt someone. So Akito gets up and goes to find his husband. When he finds him he snorts. The glasses are on top of a shelf. Rui is sitting not even two meters away from it, surrounded by a lot of boxes that he'd been searching in. His husband looks up, outrage visible on his face. However, before he can demand answers, Akito points to the glasses. Slowly Rui turns to look and visibly deflates. “WHY?!” There’s actual pain in his voice. He probably spent a while searching before asking Akito. Akito just gives a hopeless laugh and pats his head lightly.

After a bit of totally fake crying, Rui grabs Akito’s arm and pulls himself up. If only he could track his glasses, he’d never lose them again. Or better yet, if they could crawl to him. Hmm…

Rui is working on an upgrade for Robo-Nene when he hears Akito shriek. Alarmed he looks up and rushes to his husbands side. He finds him standing on the living room table, looking horrified. When Akito spots him, Rui gets a pen flung his way. Thankfully his reflexes let him dodge out of the way. “GET YOUR HELL SPAWN AWAY FROM ME!” Rui cackles. It hadn’t been his intention to scare Akito but it was really too funny. What Akito is referring to are the crawling glasses. Rui had made long spindly legs. Eight of them to be exact. It looks like a very, very questionable spider. It doesn’t completely work right yet, it doesn’t crawl towards Rui , instead after the closest person it can sense. That would be why Akito is standing on the table. Maybe Rui should give it wings… before he can finish the thought another pen is flung his way. This one hits him on the nose and he takes a surprised step back. Marital abuse, honestly, the things he had to deal with sometimes! “RUI! GET. IT. AWAY!” Rui crosses his arm and leans against the doorframe, still laughing. The amount of terror in Akito’s voice is too much. He’s not cruel though, so after another minute of laughter he goes to pick up the… thing. When he lifts it off the ground the legs keep moving and Akito takes another step away from it. Rui would laugh again, but Akito is standing very close to the table’s edge. He doesn’t want to risk any serious injuries, so he steps away again, so he goes back to leaning on the doorframe.

Akito, as Rui steps back, sinks down into a crouching position and breathes a sigh of relief. For the most part he was okay with Rui’s creations but what the hell was that? Oh god, he’s married to a psychopath isn’t he. No normal person would create such an abomination. He shudders. That was awful.

Rui, in the meantime, deactivated the thing, its legs now limply hanging in all directions. He should show Wonderlands x Showtime. Maybe even incorporate it in a play. But if that was Akito’s reaction he’s almost scared Tsukasa will just die of a heart attack, at first sight! Maybe he could make it cuter. Surely all complaints would stop at that. He looks back at Akito and snorts. Akito should start directing comedy sketches, clearly he’s got the talent for it.

In the end Akito manages to convince Rui to only put a tracker in his glasses. Call him weak, but Rui thinks Akito is really… something, when he’s desperate. Still, he will forever have an image of his little spiderling, glued into his notebook for future… reference. It will be dearly missed. Sigh~

Rui wakes up to a loud groan. It’s 5 am. He went to sleep at 2 am. It’s too early for this. He squints at where the sound came from. What he finds is Akito, eyes narrowed, wearing his glasses. The sight confuses Rui. He hasn’t seen his husband wear them in at least 3 months. He likes how they look on Akito, so he’s not complaining, but he’s not used to the sight. When Akito notices him staring he groans, quieter this time and whispers to him. “Sorry, did I wake you?” Rui only gives a short nod. Everything else takes way too much energy. Why is living so exhausting? Still he wants to know what Akito is groaning about at 5 am and why he’s wearing his glasses. He tries his best to let Akito know as much, using as little muscles as possible. He must look ridiculous, ‘cus Akito has to press a hand to his mouth, but he honestly can’t bring himself to care. Akito doesn’t answer his questions, not surprising at all and tells him to go back to sleep, which he gladly does.

Later, at around noon, he wakes up again, this time to the smell of pasta. He’s still a bit drowsy from sleep, so he stays where he is for another minute or two. Then he gets up and into the kitchen. When he sees Akito, the glasses are still on his face and Rui is promptly reminded of his questions. He walks over and hugs Akito from behind, giving him a kiss on his cheek in the process and feels Akito lean into him. “Goooood morning~” he smiles. “Any reason for your new look?” Akito blinks at him in confusion for a second. “Oh! Yeah, I can’t find my contacts.” Rui hums. Then he thinks about it more. He could…

Akito turns around, an alarmed look on his face, Rui guesses he was a bit too obvious about his expressions. In his defense he just woke up. Akito tries to swat at his head lightly, but Rui catches his arm at the wrist, pulling it up and above his head, forcing Akito to stand on his toes. He hears his husband mumble something (“ tall bastard” ) and grins at him. “Be more supportive~ I’m being a genius and all you do is stop me before I can even do anything. Ahhhh, the tragedy!” Akito stares at him, squinting. “Maybe have better ideas then.” Rui gives a drawn out screech and topples over onto Akito, clutching his heart as though he had been shot. “How could you! All I’m doing is being SMART and I get attacked for it!? Akito, why!” Instead of validating his whining with an answer, his husband just stands there, propping him up, with a deadpanned stare into the air. After a bit more whining and a jumpscare from Akito’s alarm, Rui turns himself back into a solid. Akito goes to get the lasagna out of the oven and Rui starts setting the table. In no time they’re seated.

Rui stares at the other while they eat. Hmmm…

Later that day, Rui hears Akito shriek again. He walks into the living room, only to find his husband under the table and he starts laughing. The contact lenses or at least their case, which Akito had been looking for, are flying above the table, courtesy of Rui, bumping into it from time to time, trying to go through it. Hey, no one said that contact lenses are smart. Akito is glaring at him again. “GET YOUR SHITTY BUTTERFLY AWAY FROM ME!” Rui doesn’t think that’s fair. Sure, it has long spindly legs like one, but its wings are pretty small in comparison.

He laughs for a bit and eventually, because he doesn’t want to get impaled by flying pens, he gets a net. It’s time to catch some butterflies.
