Work Text:
Rehearsals at Phoenix Wonderland are always something special. The cast of the eccentric theatre troupe that utilised the Wonder Stage were just as dramatic off stage as they were on stage.
Tsukasa, the ring leader, so to speak, was in charge of keeping everyone in line and took on the main role in every performance. But he reacted to the chaos with an equal amount of energy, so he wasn’t the best at the whole “keep the Wonder Stage all in one piece” thing. The rest of the troupe was seemingly in charge of riling up Tsukasa as much as humanly possible.. Well except Nene, she was there for commentary.
“You’ve worked us hard enough Tsukasa-kun, give us a break will you.” Nene said, with no real malice.
“Fair enough, how long shall we halt our production?”
“I’d hardly call it a production yet”
“OH! OH! OH!”
Emu interrupted the beginning of a bickering match between Tsukasa and Nene and brought all attention upon her.
“Emu?”
“NENE-CHAN! WE SHOULD GO TO THE TEA SHOP!”
“You mean the cafe?”
Emu nodded and then realised Tsukasa and Rui’s presence
“You should come too, Tsukasa-kun, Rui-kun!”
“Doesn’t sound like a bad idea, right Tsukasa-kun?”
“I suppose we don’t have anything better to do..”
“WONDERHOY! It’s a date!”
“Who said anything about a date?!” Tsukasa shouted
“a double date?” Nene asked
“YES! YES!”
“Hmm intriguing, not a bad idea at all”
Tsukasa gave in and they headed to the cafe nearby.
“WONDERHOY!”
Everyone else in the area stared at the group, but Emu, the perpetrator, didn’t seem to notice and she ran to the nearest seating booth.
Tsukasa ended up sitting across from Rui, and sitting next to Nene.
“Wouldn’t it make more sense if Rui and I swapped seats?” Nene asked
“No need!” Tsukasa responded.
The waiter rushed over and gave them 3 menus, and rushed off quickly. Emu looked disappointed but brushed it off as she grabbed the first menu.
Naturally, Tsukasa was the menuless one, he tried to look into Nene’s, who quickly put her hand in front of Tsukasa’s eyes. While Emu and Rui were chatting about the menu options.
The waiter came back a few minutes later, and asked them for their orders, visibly uncomfortable having to serve this table. Everyone ordered except Tsukasa, whom the waiter didn’t even notice in the rush to leave.
“Honestly Nene was there really any need to-”
“Nene-chan! I ordered the big, big, tray of sweets, we can share them!” Emu stated proudly.
“Thanks Emu, you can share some of my mochi”
Tsukasa tried to make eye contact with Rui, but he was too busy looking at the scenery out the window.
There were a few others waiting for food, but Wonderlands x Showtime got served first, despite ordering most recently.
Nene got mint mochi and bubble tea, Emu got peach lemonade and her confectionery, Rui got a platter of dango with a side of green tea, and Tsukasa… he, of course, didn’t get anything.
Emu seemed to have understated her order when she said a “tray” of sweets. It was like a cake stand filled to the brim with anything sweet and pink.
Emu reached across the table and started feeding Nene some of her sweets, despite the fact that her platter took up the entire middle of the table, and Nene could have easily grabbed some herself.
Nene didn’t resist this at all, but her face was noticeably WAY more red than when she was preventing Tsukasa from ordering anything.
Rui seemingly only then noticed Tsukasa’s lack of food and started laughing behind his hand. Tsukasa glared at him, wondering what he was plotting.
“Tsukasa~~”
Tsukasa looked up at Rui, who was holding his dango only inches from Tsukasa’s mouth.
“What on Earth are you-”
Rui shoved almost all of it into Tsukasa’s mouth in one go and started laughing at Tsukasa’s reaction. Tsukasa quickly took the stick out of his mouth and set it on the table, and noticed that both Rui and Nene were staring at him. Nene, however, was quickly distracted by Emu, who wanted some mochi.
“Rui, what on earth did you do that for”
“You were hungry, no?”
“Well- Yes, but-”
Rui shoved MORE dango into Tsukasa’s mouth, which effectively shut him up while Rui stopped laughing, but instead just kept staring while sipping at his green tea.
“I’m afraid I can’t do much for you if you’re thirsty except order you a milkshake”
“Why specifically a-”
The waiter who took the table's order the first time started running out of the building, clearly hearing what Rui said.
Soon enough, the table finished their food, except for Nene’s untouched boba, which Emu claimed for herself as a to-go order. They were almost halfway back to the theme-park before Tsukasa realised that they forgot to pay.
“Must be on the house then~”
“NO!”
Tsukasa ended up bringing Emu back to the cafe in order to pay back what they owed. Emu was probably the worst possible choice to bring but she was the only one willing to come. Emu tried to bring Nene but she didn’t want to face the embarrassment. “Emu, I love you, but not enough to face that place ever again.” An empty threat, but one that held up for then.
Tsukasa only heard compliments about Nene and a few wonderhoys on the way to the cafe. They didn’t know how much the order was however, but they just ended up splitting an estimate. Which annoyed Tsukasa since he didn’t even get to order anything but Emu insisted that it was “on Rui’s behalf.”
On the way back, Tsukasa was met with compliments about.. Him and Rui.
“Ah Tsukasa, how much money did you lose” Rui said when they were back at the themepark
“None of your business Rui.”
“Don’t say that~ You know you love me~”
“I never said I didn’t”
“Awww, how sweet~”
Nene stuck her tongue out and she went to go ask Emu something.
“BYE-BYE TSUKASA-KUN, RUI-KUN! NENE-CHAN’S SLEEPING OVER WITH ME!”
Tsukasa and Rui waved goodbye as they went to clean up the stage.
“So Tsukasa, what do you say, stay over at mine tonight”
“You’re only saying that because of Emu and Nene”
“And?”
“Fine, I accept your offer!”
“Happy to hear it~”
And though it sounded like Tsukasa wasn’t all too keen, he was indeed quite excited to have some alone time with Rui.
So they headed to Rui’s house as soon as they were done cleaning the stage. But at a fork in the road where they’d usually separate paths, they heard a rustle in a tree and a certain pink haired girl fell out. “WONDERHOY!~” she shouted before hurriedly climbing back up the tree to her grey haired girlfriend.
Rui didn’t give Tsukasa time to react before smiling and continuing to walk.
