Chapter Text
Juniper was one year, one month, and one day old when she was adopted by David Rose. It took longer to convince him that this was a good idea than it was to get an appointment with the court.
“Are you sure this is what you want to do today?” He asked for the 87th time that morning. “If you want to turn around and go home, I’d completely understand.”
Patrick pulled into the Elm County Clerk’s office and parked.
“David, do you want to do this?” He asked calmly. “I don't want to be pushing you into this.”
“No, I… I do,” he admitted in a whisper. “I’m just… scared.”
Patrick smiled, reaching across the console to take both of David’s hands. “David. You are my husband. You have been a father to Juniper since the day she was born. I know it, you know it, she knows it. All this does is make it legal in the eyes of Canada.”
David smiled, looking down at their entwined hands. The gold rings that adorned both of their fingers. He nodded.
“Okay.”
“Okay.” Patrick looked toward the back seat. “Juni? You ready to make Daddy your official daddy?”
And from her carseat, out of sight of both of them, Juniper cried out, “Dada!”
