Chapter Text
The conversation happens late at night, after a long day of work. It’s something they’ve talked about a few times throughout the years, but they haven’t made any real plans.
They’ve grown up a bit, now 25 and 26 with jobs and a small home they were able to buy with help of some money Nicks dad had set aside for him after the divorce (they like to call it his guilt money) now furnished with gifts their friends and families gave them during their wedding.
Nick works at Truham as as an English teacher, and he works with the rugby team as well. Charlie works in publishing, and mostly works from home.
Throughout the years they have discussed having kids and they both know they want to start a family. And that’s what they are currently discussing.
“Maybe it’s time” Charlie whispers into the night, Nicks arms holding him tight as they cuddle in the dark of their room.
Their house is perfect, 2 bedroom, 2 bath and a small office space connected to the master bedroom for Charlie to work in. It’s a beautiful home to start their family.
“Really? You really think so?” Nick asks with a big grin. He’s always wanted kids, ideally two or three, but he’s not too picky. And he especially wants kids with Charlie.
“I do! I think we should definitely start the process. We have to figure out if we want to adopt or get a surrogate. If we do who’s going to be the biological father? How are we going to decide this?” Charlie starts to ramble. Nick grabs his chin and leans down to kiss him softly, cutting him off from his over thinking.
“We will discuss it all together when we aren’t half asleep love. Don’t stress. Let’s sleep” he feels Charlie lean into his chest and nod, letting them both fall into peaceful sleep.

They do end up discussing it more. So much in fact they have started the process of finding a surrogate. They have also decided that for at least their first kid they will use Nicks sperm. They set out on finding a surrogate and while they search they decide to tell their families.
That’s why they are now sitting in Nicks family home with both of their parents for a family meal. They have them often enough, sometimes Tori and Oliver come but this time they specifically asked for just the parents to come, Charlie wanted to tell his siblings at a different time.
Nick would have wanted to tell his dad the same time as his mum but sadly he had some work thing to do (like always) so he plans to tell him later along with David.
They sit down, eating a homemade meal made by the amazing Sarah Nelson. Charlie picks at his food, a nervous habit that makes everyone at the table on edge, not seeing it in a while.
“So, we actually had something to tell you guys” Nick starts, watching as all three of the parents look towards them. All the attention makes Charlie more nervous, he reaches for Nicks hand for support as he takes another bite.
“We- ah, me and Charlie have recently discussed, and are actively starting the process, of having a baby” he says looking between Jane and Julio Spring and his own mother, nervous.
He realistically knows they’ll be supportive. He knows his mum will be excited, and Charlie’s parents have come around and gotten more supportive of the two, with Jane working through her own issues for the benefit of her kids.
When they see the parents smile at the two, they know they are in the clear. Sarah Nelson expressing her support immediately, and Jane and Julio giving their support as well, making Charlie smile back at them all.
Nick breathes out a sigh of relief. Seeing their parents excited for them makes him even more excited. He doesn’t feel like they could go through with this if their parents didn’t support it.
When they get home that night, Nick lays in bed, watching Charlie get changed into his night clothes.
“Are you excited?” Nick asks suddenly. He watches as Charlie raises his eyebrow, before realizing.
“I am, I can’t believe we’ve come this far” he smiles, putting on his night shirt before climbing into bed next to Nick “I’m so happy to be starting this next chapter with you.”
Charlie presses a sweet kiss to Nicks lips, before reaching over to turn off the lamp.
They fall asleep knowing this is the beginning of the rest of their lives, and they are ready to do it right.
