Chapter Text
“Listen up, everyone!”
declared Karamo. He was sitting in the passenger seat of the Queer-Eye car holding a tablet.
“Our hero this week is 25-year-old graphic designer Wuxian Wei. He was nominated by his older sister Yanli and close friend Huaisang. Wuxian’s parents died when he was very young, after which he was adopted by his dads’ old boss, who raised him alongside his own two children.
Recently one of his best friends’ cousins was orphaned resulting in Wuxian adopting the child. He has been doing his best to give him a happy life but has started to neglect himself instead.”
Antoni who was sitting in the back, frowned
“Of course, it’s important to look after your kids, but you’ve got to stay healthy too”
The others made various agreeing noises as Karamo continued.
“His sister says he has always struggled with self-worth due to not being treated equally by his adoptive parents. She hopes that we can help him see that he deserves to take care of himself, not just others.”
Here Tan spoke up with a grimace
“God, I can imagine what that would do to your self-esteem.”
Bobby nodded
“Yeah, that must have been hard.”
Karamo hummed in agreement
“Our job this week is to show him that taking care of himself is nothing to feel guilty about.”
“Woo lets gooooooo!”
shouted Jonathan from the back seat, breaking up the sad mood that had settled in the car after hearing their hero’s story.
The car pulled up to an apartment building. On the pavement a few feet away stood an elegant young lady and a quite extravagantly dressed man holding a fan.
The fab five jumped out of the car to greet them.
“Hi! You must be Yanli and Huaisang!”
Shouted Jonathan as he strode over to hug them.
Yanli laughed as she hugged back enthusiastically
“Yes, that’s us!”
Tan immediately locked eyes on Huaisang outfit.
“Oh my God, I love that outfit! That jacket is to die for!”
Huaisang giggled
“Why thank you. I love your shoes!”
Meanwhile Jonathan had started petting Yanli’s hair
“Your hair is giving me such princess vibes, I love it.”
She laughed again and gestured for them to follow her.
“Come on, let me show you my brothers’ apartment.”
As the Fab Five followed her and Huaisang into the building they had plenty of questions.
“Both of your brothers live here together?”
asked Bobby, curiosity written on his face.
“Yes, when Xian-Xian started struggling with taking care of himself and Yuan, A-Cheng moved in with them to help. It was supposed to be temporary, but it’s been six months.”
Yanli shrugged helplessly
“It’s not an ideal situation. The apartment is barely big enough for the 2 of them, never mind three.”
Tan nodded thoughtfully
“It was good of him to help them though.”
Huaisang smirked
“If you ask me Wanyin was just waiting for an excuse to move in with Wuxian.”
Karamo made a noise of interest
“Oh? What do you mean?”
Huaisang giggled.
“Those two have always been pretty co-dependant. I went to school with them back when we were like fifteen. It was sort of like a boarding school, so we had dorms and stuff.
They tried to separate the two of them after a few weeks, I’ve long forgotten why, and they managed to set up some messaging system through the windows with some string and a bell.
Let’s just say it got so annoying that they were back in the same room within a week.
Similar story for university. A couple of us moved in together. It was made obvious within about a week that Wuxian and Wanyin needed to share a room, because they kept getting up in the middle of the night to talk to each other.”
Tan raised an eyebrow in disbelief
“Really? I mean I understand loving your siblings, but I can’t imagine how spending so much time together wouldn’t drive you crazy eventually.”
Yanli smiled as she led them up the apartment stairs.
“Oh, they fight like crazy, they’re very different people but the fights are how they show their affection to each other.”
Huaisang rolled his eyes but smiled fondly.
“They’re best friends, not just brothers. It’s honestly weird hanging out with just one of them.”
added Huaisang
They stopped in front of the apartment as Yanli pulled out a key to let them in.
“Xian-Xian should be home, but Yuan is at kindergarten and A-Cheng is at work right now, so he’s probably got headphones on and won’t hear the doorbell.”
They walked into the apartment.
