Work Text:
"Hey Jen, Nikki and I are going for the drinks after work, want to go with us?" Pug asked opening door to Jennifer's office.
She turned to him from the documents she was reading, apologetic expression on her face. "Sorry, I can't, I already have plans"
"Is that hot boyfriend of yours coming to town this weekend?" he leaned on the door frame.
"Sadly, no. He couldn't make it. Something came up and he had to stay in New York. Actually, I promised my parents I'll visit them, so I'm spending my evening in suburbs." She clarified, but he could see that she was not exactly happy at how her plans turned out.
"Okay, if you change your mind, you know where to find us" he said on the way out.
Pug made his way home after he sent Nikki safely home in the cab. He decided to take a walk to clear his head a little before he went to sleep and because he lived quite close to the bar, so there was no need to pay for any type of transportation.
He tried to speed up his walk next to the dark ally-way, when he heard strange sounds coming from there, but unfortunately he tripped, almost breaking his nose on the pavement. While he tried to get up with dignity intact, he heard familiar voice.
"What are you going to do now?"
Pug looked up, squinting his eyes to better see into the dark depths of the ally-way. He recognized tall silhouette of a woman, trying harder to see with whom she was. He caught a sight of red helmet with horns from behind her shoulder. It looked like She-Hulk tried to squish Daredevil into the wall, with how her body rested against his.
What is she doing here? She was supposed to be at her parents. And what is Daredevil doing here again?
"Beg for my freedom?" Daredevil replied on She-Hulk's previous question.
"And how do you want to accomplish that?" her voice got more sensual tone.
"How about like this?" Pug heard before he saw them start kissing.
In that moment he bolted from there, not wanting to hear or see more than he already had.
Pug buzzed the doorbell to Jen's apartment, rocking from one foot to the other.
He couldn't sleep the whole night. After he got home, he had been turning from one side of the bed to the other, too many thoughts fighting for his attention.
He couldn't believe that Jen was capable of doing something like that. And to such a person like Matt.
Pug liked Matt Murdock. From their first meeting, when Jen introduced him as her boyfriend/partner/significant other/or whatever other label there was, he liked the guy. He was chill dude, who had no problem spending ours talking about the differences in the law between the states, or let Pug ramble about his extensive collection of designers sneakers. They spent some time together, getting a feel of each other. He respected Matt and he was happy for Jen, that she found someone worthwhile for herself after some many turbulations in her life.
So Jen's behavior previous night took him completely by surprise. He held her in high regard as a work colleague and as a friend, so to think her capable of cheating was hard to comprehend for Pug.
That's why, first thing in the morning, he decided to confront her about the issue and see her side of the story, hoping there was completely good and normal explanation to this mess that didn't end in corrupt morals.
Jen's door finally opened, but the face that greeted him didn't belong to the person he wanted to talk to.
"Hi Pug, what you doing here, man?" Matt greeted him.
"Hi Matt, is Jen here?" smidge of nervousness in Pug's voice.
"You just missed her, she went to grab some things for our breakfast to the corner shop. You want to wait for her?" Matt proposed.
Pug put his hands in the pants pockets to stop them from shaking. "Sure" and nervously stepped through the doorway.
"Want some coffee? It's freshly brewed" Matt offered.
"Yeah, I could use a cup." Pug sat himself at Jen's small table, nervous that his legs would buckle under him from the stress. He came here to confront Jen and maybe explain the situation that he witnessed, to talk to her and give her the benefit of doubt.
He definitely was not ready to stand in front of a man that was partially involved in all of this. He really liked Matt and didn't want to be bearer of bad news to him.
"Is this about your case? Maybe I could help?" Matt placed a cup of burning hot coffee on the table and took opposite seat.
"Huh? No, it's a private matter, actually." Pug fumbled for the response.
"Oh, okay. However, if I can help in anyway, you can talk to me." Matt's earnest face broke Pug's resolve to wait. The matter at hand concerned him to, and if Pug was in Matt's place, he would have liked to know that there was possibility that his girlfriend was cheating on him.
"Sorry for asking, but when did you get here? Last I talked to Jen, she said you were not coming this weekend." So this the way you want to start this conversation?
"I just got here, I caught early, or really late plane, depends on how you look at it." Matt chuckled.
"Mhm. Is it okay if we got serious for a moment?" Matt quickly nodded his head. "Man, I hope you won't get mad at me, but I have suspicions that Jen might be cheating on you." Pug told him, his voice somber.
"What?" Matt's brows went so high on his face that they were clearly visible over his glasses.
"I know, I know. Let me explain." Pug tried to calm him down. He sat straight in his chair, hands crossed on the table, pose similar to the one he took when he had to talk to very stubborn client. "Last night, on my way home, I had misfortune of stumbling into one of the ally-ways that's on my route, and I overheard some voice. I looked up to see what was going on, and there Jen was, having a make-out session with Daredevil. You should know him." Pug rambled. "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Actually, when you think of it, it's weird to see New York based hero in this parts of the country, but I digress." he shook himself, similar to the way dog would after bath. "I left as soon as I possibly could, and I came here to talk to Jen about it, but it didn't work out, as you can see." Pug finished, all air leaving him.
They sat in silence for solid five minutes, Pug giving the other man time to process what he just heard, and Matt deep in his thoughts.
The silence had been broken by Matt's almost maniacal laugh, that made Pug jump in his chair from the surprise. At the same time, the doors to the apartment opened, letting Jen inside, bags in her hands.
"Pug? What are you doing here? What is going on?" she asked alarmed at what she saw, quickly dropping groceries at the kitchen counter.
She made her way to Matt's side, concerned at his weird behavior and put her hand on his shoulder. Matt turned to her, happy wrinkles around his eyes, and slunged his arm around her waist "Pug thinks you're cheating on me." smirk clear on his face.
"What?" she asked alarmed.
"He saw She-Hulk smooching with Daredevil" Jen relaxed at that.
"You want to tell him?" She petted the hair at the back of his head.
"Do I have any choice? If I don't, he will be thinking you're cheating on lil old me."
They both turned to Pug, who looked like he just entered Twilight Zone and Matt put his hand in front of him, clearly to shake his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Pug, I'm Daredevil."
