Work Text:
Scar hummed as he stepped down from the ladder of his Swaggon, peering around at all the variety of houses in Boatem. It was a lovely morning, in his opinion, as the rising sun was shining down on the buildings, bathing them in an orange glow.
His ears directed towards the sound of rustling paper off nearby his partner’s base; Grian was sitting next to the ever growing chest monster in front of the gorgeous Midnight Alley, leaning onto the chests tiredly, and he was likely sketching out some more ideas for the base. A soft smile appeared on Scar’s face, looking at his partner as the sunlight washed over him, making him more pretty than he usually was.
However, the peace didn’t last long before an antic appeared into his thoughts and his smile turned into a playful smirk. His cat tail flicked at the end as he lightly lifted himself onto the tip of his toes and crept forwards.
He was going to try and scare Grian! It was usually the other who managed to scare him, by accident or not, since he himself was quite easy to spook, but now he had the perfect chance to give his boyfriend a little fright for once.
As he got closer and closer to his partner he decided to let his feline instincts take over slightly. I mean, what’s better at stalking a bird than a cat? His ears perked up slightly, more alert to any sounds the avian may make.
He crept ever so closer, only a few blocks away from Grian, who still hadn’t noticed him somehow. At this point, he was a few steps away from being able to see the sketchbook the other had in his lap, which he had gained curiosity for. His tail flickered as he got even closer without the other noticing - he must really be focussed on whatever he was working on - which, at this point he could see if he tried. His cat-like pupils looked over at the book, and saw what he was sketching.
A flush appeared on Scar’s face, it was a sketch of himself in an extremely good amount of detail for someone drawing without a reference nearby, he paused in his advances before a sound echoed itself around the area. A soft buzzing sound which he recognised as the fact he was purring.
The blush on his face increased in saturation in embarrassment once he recognised his behaviour, watching as Grian jolted up slightly, looking behind to see Scar, wide eyed and paused in his pursuit. They both sat there staring at each other for a moment, both being caught out in what they were doing.
“Well hello there,” Scar whispered after a moment, still slumped over with his ears perked up and staring intently at the other, clearly about to pounce, causing his partner to begin to laugh. Laughter also came from the cat hybrid, mixed in with the purring which had started up again purely with the sound of the avian’s - in his opinion - beautiful laughing.
“Void, Scar, you really scared the life out of me,” Grian laughed, holding the side of the sketchbook with the sketch on to his chest, still trying to hide it despite the oh-so obvious sign that Scar saw it and absolutely loved it. The scarred man noticed this, he certainly noticed a lot of things about his partner’s body language.
“That was the goal! Though not the way I expected to complete it,” He hummed, settling himself down on the grass next to Grian so he wouldn’t have to turn backwards to continue talking to him.
The avian smiled, spreading his wing out and using it to somewhat side-hug the cat hybrid, “Well I don’t think purring while trying to sneak up on someone is entirely useful, you’re just lucky I was focussed on something,” He said with a little smirk on his face as Scar flustered more, looking to the side to try and hide it. At this, Grian lifted his hand up and began to pet behind the cat ears atop his head.
The cat hybrid blushed even more as he felt himself involuntarily purr and lean his head more into the action, he was completely relaxing his body against the shorter man with no control over it. He huffed with an overexaggerated frown, before, somewhat regretfully, leaning away from the touch, just to look at the other with a mischievous look in his eyes.
“So, how’s your sketch of me so far? Hmm?” It was now Grian’s turn to turn red, covering his flustered face with his hands. Scar chuckled, and then held the other’s wrists as gently as he could, pulling his arms away to show the avian’s face once again.
His laugh faded off into an adoring smile, carefully leaning in to give his partner a small kiss on the forehead, before placing his head in between the other’s head and shoulders with a satisfied sigh. The avian was slightly surprised at the action, but quickly relaxed himself and began to absentmindedly pet behind Scar’s ears again, causing soft purring to fill the serenity of early morning Boatem.
