Romance.
That’s a pretty important thing in the world, or at least it seems that way to everyone else.
To be frank, Kusuo never found any point in it, and to be honest, it was annoying how it seemed to be on basically everyone’s mind nowadays. Maybe he was never interested in anyone because of his x-ray vision, or how he knew everyone’s true colors, but either way, he at least knew one thing.
He has never, and will never, fall in love.
Before you start, of course usually when you open with something like that there’s going to be plot twist where the protagonist ends up falling in love with some random person that “melted their cold heart”, or something, but not today. If you’re thinking otherwise, drop it.
Right, let’s maybe rewind a bit. So that’s where Kusuo sat, barely interested in whatever Kaido and Nendo and Kuboyasu were yelling about. Kaido invited them to hang out again, Kusuo didn’t know entirely why he was there in the first place, but let’s just say a mother is a dangerous foe.
The psychic rubbed his temples, his green-tinted glasses sliding up his nose. They were noisy. He really just wanted to just be at home, reading comics or something. He perked up when a certain blue haired boy called his name.
“Saiki! Back me up here!”
Oh jeez, what’s he want now?
“Yumehara definitely has a crush on me, I’m not imagining things, right?!”
…Huh?
“No, you definitely are. There’s no way a girl could like you!” Nendo teased.
Kuboyasu nodded, his arms crossed and a serious expression stretched across his face. “I agree, for once Nendo has said something right.”
“Says you guys!!” Kaido rebutted.
“I got a love letter once!” Nendo piped in.
“She was just inviting you to the stupid baseball club!”
….What?
Kusuo’s brows furrowed, Yumehara was that obvious, huh? Hmm, there was the Valentines incident, but he thought that got resolved.
As if Kaido was listening in to Saiki’s thoughts, he suddenly said, “Remember? There was that thing on Valentines! Yumehara gave me a letter that I decoded, it said she wanted to be sworn friends. But later, she mentioned something about chocolates…I’m thinking, maybe, I didn’t get her chocolates, and I didn’t actually need to decipher the letter…She was confessing to me!!!”
Wow. So he’s not dumb. Kusuo was honestly impressed.
“Huh…you think you should just ask her?” The former delinquent said.
“No way, that’s embarrassing…” Kaido scratched his cheek, immediately becoming defensive when Nendo called him a chicken.
Some moments later, Kuboyasu seemed to be lost in thought, and promptly blurted out, “Hmm…say, Saiki?”
Huh?
“Do you have a crush on anyone?”
…HUH?
Why is he asking? What? Is it because of Teruhashi? How she’s always clinging to him and talking to him? Or was it Imu…No way. Not her. Then, Mikoto? Definitely Mikoto. He has helped her a lot before, but he didn’t think anyone would think they were dating besides that one time at the locke—
“Now that I think about it, and since we’re on the topic of crushes…Y’know, every boy has a crush on Teruhashi, and I don’t blame them, but I’ve never seen you ever even look in her direction when she’s not directly talking to you.”
It is because of Teruhashi.
“Ahh, you’re right…But then again, he seems disinterested in everyone and anything,” Kaido looked towards Kuboyasu.
“Right…But doesn’t Teruhashi have that effect of making everyone look her way?”
“True..”
Dot. Dot. Dot. Are these idiots serious?
“So since you’re not interested in Teruhashi, you must have a crush on someone else!” Nendo exclaimed. Definitely not correct.
“Who is it?! We won’t tell anyone, promise!” Kaido suddenly seemed to have a spurt of enthusiasm, jeez.
Kusuo tilted his head and thought. Did he have a crush on anyone? Nah, not really. If he tried really hard, could he maybe think of ANYONE, just anyone, that he could possibly be into?
…
Nah.
“WHAAAAAT?! But everyone has a crush on someone, and if not Teruhashi, then who?!” Kaido launched his hands into his hair and scratched dramatically.
Simple, no one.
“You sure buddy?” Nendo said.
Yeah, 100%.
“How come?” Kuboyasu questioned.
Simple again, he just didn’t. Is that so hard to believe?
“Well, yeah..! Teruhashi is perfect and every boy has a crush on her so if you don’t, and aren’t interested in anyone else, that’s just insane!” Kaido thought intensely, his hand cupped around his chin. The area around him grew dark and intense, and Nendo and Kuboyasu backed up a bit. Jeez.
Was the fact that he just didn’t like anyone breaking news? Honestly he wouldn’t be surprised if he made it onto TV for purely not liking Teruhashi, but still…
He just wasn’t interested in anyone, or romance in general for that matter.
“So, you just don’t like romance?” Kuboyasu sat down on the floor. He didn’t really seem that passionate about this topic, unlike someone…
But yeah, that’s really it.
“Huh, guess that makes sense, considering how you are. (That’s borderline insulting, Kusuo thought.) So you’re just one of those people who don’t get crushes, right?”
Now you’re talking. At least someone understands.
“Ahh, well, I guess I can accept that,” Kaido sat back down too. Thank god.
“That’s okay buddy, we’ll accept you however you are!” Nendo wrapped an arm around Kusuo, which led to a chain reaction of “yeah!”s and “totally!”s and Kaido and Kuboyasu jumping onto Kusuo, and suddenly every inch of care he had left in his body for these morons vanished.
