In the summer of 1992, Rhaenyra and Alicent Targaryen-Hightower and their seven adopted children - Aegon, Jacaerys, Aemond, Lucerys, Helaena, Daeron, and Joffrey - move into Driftmark to renovate the mansion so that they can sell it and build their own dream home designed by Alicent. However, unexpected repairs that Rhaenyra must handle keep the family staying there longer than the few weeks they initially anticipated. The summer, it seemed, would belong entirely to Driftmark. The longer they stay, they find themselves all having different paranormal experiences. The summer culminates in a tragic loss, and the family fleeing.
Now, twenty-six years later in 2018, the Targaryen-Hightowers must all come together as another tragedy strikes them. All of them are forced to confront how their time in Driftmark affected each of them. All of them are forced to reopen long-closed wounds and deal with grief old and new as they mingle and entwine in ways that none of them had ever expected.
