Weathering the Storm

Summary:

Tommy's just a normal kid who lives with his brother in the city of L'Manburg. Ask Tubbo, he'd tell you Tommy's perfectly normal.
He has superpowers, but that's pretty normal for someone in this world.
He seems normal.

But you don't judge a book by its cover.

Chapter Text

Tommy jumped up, swinging himself on top of the wooden beams that criss crossed across the ceiling. He walked along them with practiced ease, reaching his destination quickly. He swung the door open, grabbing the target, shutting the door behind him.

“Tommy? What are you doing?” Dream asked. Tommy sat, wrapping his legs around the ceiling beam and swinging to face his brother upside down.

“Getting a snack,” Tommy said, holding up the cookie for Dream to see.

“Tommy, it’s almost time for dinner,” Dream scolded.

“It’s just a cookie!” Tommy protested.

“Put it back. You can have it after dinner.” Tommy glared, but pulled himself back on the ceiling beams, shoving the cookie back in the snack closet. He dropped from the ceiling with a calculated flip, landing on the living room couch.

“I regret teaching you how to get up there,” Dream muttered. Tommy grinned innocently.

“Could we get pizza tonight?” Tommy asked.

“No-”

“Pleeease?” Tommy interrupted. Dream looked like he was going to say no again, so Tommy doubled down. “I’ll listen to you extra tonight, I promise!”

“Fine,” Dream conceded. Tommy let out a loud cheer. “I’m going to hold you to that though. You’ll listen to me.”

“Of course I will,” Tommy nodded quickly, dropping back onto the couch. Dream went into the other room to order the pizza. A minute later, a knock sounded at the door. Tommy jumped up, running over to see who was there.

“Hey there, Tommy!”

“Hi, Tommy.”

“Sapnap! Gogy!” Tommy shouted.

“Why do you insist on calling me that?” George asked, shaking his head as Tommy stepped aside to let them in.

“Because it’s better than your real name,” Tommy said simply.

“Don’t argue with the child,” Sapnap said.

“I’m not a child!” Tommy said. “Anyways, we’re having pizza for dinner tonight!”

“You convinced Dream?” Sapnap asked. When Tommy nodded, he held his hand up for a high five. “Good job, little dude! What did you have to do to convince him?”

“I just told him I’ll listen to him more tonight,” Tommy said.

“And are you going to?”

“Probably not.” Tommy shrugged. Sapnap nodded approvingly.

“You should never listen to Dream, unless you’re in danger and need him or one of us to bail you out.”

“What are you teaching my brother?” Dream asked, causing Sapnap to jump.

“Oh, hi! How long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough to hear you telling Tommy to not listen to me,” Dream said.

“I was joking,” Sapnap said quickly.

“Sure.” Dream rolled his eyes. “You still have to listen to me tonight, Tommy.”

“I will!” Tommy promised.

“I’m ignoring you!” Tommy shouted, jumping towards Dream.

“You promised that you would listen tonight!” Dream said, trying to hold Tommy back.

“Well I unpromise. You need help!” Tommy said.

“Don’t-” Tommy cut Dream off, sending a small tornado towards the attackers.

“Tempest! What did I just say?” Dream demanded.

“You were in trouble!”

“And you will be in trouble when we get home!”

Listen, as much fun it is to hear you two fight, Nocturn and I could use some help, ” Sapnap said over the communications line.

“We’re on our way,” Dream said immediately. He dropped his voice, turning to Tommy. “We are not done with this conversation.”

Tommy ignored him, pressing his hands to the ground to make a cloud, hopping on it and floating up to find Sapnap and George.

“There!” Tommy called, pointing for Dream to see. Tommy could see the illusions from Vizion dissolving in smoke as Sapnap attacked them, while George ran from Protesilaus.

Tommy double checked the battle below him again, counting. Sapnap was fighting Vizion, and George was fighting Protesilaus, while Dream was heading in as backup. Hang on, where was-

Tommy let out a shout as he was plucked from his cloud, kicking his legs in the empty air.

“Let me go!” Tommy shouted, trying to squirm away. “Put me down!”

“It’s okay, kid,” Falcon said. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

“Why would I believe you?” Tommy asked darkly. He didn’t wait for an answer. Instead, he raised his hand, the stars blinking out as storm clouds gathered above. Falcon was forced to land before the hail hit him out of the sky.

As soon as Falcon’s feet hit the ground, Tommy kicked him in the gut and scrambled away. He had the hail follow him as he ran through the streets towards the battle.

Tommy skidded around the corner, taking cover before quickly assessing the scene ahead of him. Vizion was getting beat up by Sapnap as usual because his illusions didn’t work on Sapnap’s infrared vision. George and Dream were both attacking Protesilaus with green tinted items scattered on the floor around them, a sign of Dream using his powers.

Tommy switched his hail cloud to rain, sending it over to Sapnap to help get rid of the illusions. Tommy was already starting to feel drained, but created a tornado anyways, sending it to unbalance Protesilaus.

Dream took advantage of it, slamming the hilt of his sword over Protesilaus’ head. That would’ve knocked a normal person unconscious, but due to Protesilaus’ invulnerability, he only stumbled back. That was all the opening they needed though.

“Cindersight, Tempest, move out!” Dream called. Sapnap kicked Vizion's knees, sending him to the ground before running to Dream. Tommy raced to the group, tripping over his own feet.

“Are you okay?” Dream asked, the three of them rushing to where he’d fallen.

“I’m fine,” Tommy said. He pushed his hands against the ground, a cloud forming around himself, Dream, George and Sapnap. It rose quickly, getting lost in the rest of the rainclouds Tommy had made before Falcon could chase after them.

Dimly, Tommy could hear the others trying to talk to him, but he had to stay concentrated on the cloud. He didn’t want to risk it falling apart.

Tommy guided the cloud home, collapsing as soon as the cloud hit the ground. A pair of hands caught him before he fell to the floor, lifting him off his feet.

“Let’s get you to bed, kiddo,” Dream said. Tommy rested his head against Dream’s chest, closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep almost instantly.
