Chapter Text

It’s a Sunday when Kyle calls Stan and tells him to wipe his calendar clear of all plans for the week.

He takes a moment to just sit and stew in his confusion. It’s not like he has any plans, anyway; school’s out and he quit his job at the grocery store. Eventually, he just sighs and agrees. Whatever Kyle has planned for him better be fun.

“Meet me at the movie theater at one, we’re gonna see the new Terrance and Phillip movie,” Kyle says. A smile splits Stan’s face open.

“Shit, for real? Dude, you know I’ve been wanting to see that movie since it came out!”

“Yeah, I know, you talked about it all day yesterday,” Kyle teases. “Listen, after we did that, I figured we could head back to my place and watch all the Indiana Jones movies?”

Stan’s smile grows impossibly wider. “That sounds awesome!” he says.

“Sweet, alright! I’m heading over to the theater now—don’t be late! I wanna see the previews,” Kyle tells him and Stan snorts.

“I don’t understand your infatuation with the previews, but fine. I’ll head out in a second,” Stan says.

“Good,” Kyle says, “see you then.”

“Bye,” Stan laughs, hanging up on his friend. He quickly throws some clothes on, grabs some cash, and heads out of the house after calling out a Bye!” to Shelley. He isn’t deigned a response, but that’s to be expected with his sister.

It’s twelve fourty-nine when Stan makes it to the theater and spots an impatient-looking Kyle hovering near the condiments. His friend’s gaze was locked on the door, so he notices immediately when Stan enters the building. With a quick pace, Kyle approaches him and immediately begins lecturing him on his tardiness.

“I thought I was gonna miss the previews!” Kyle exclaims, gesturing wildly with his hands.

“Would you relax? They would never play the previews without your majesty,” Stan rolls his eyes as he replies.

Kyle scoffs at him. “Whatever, just hurry up and get your ticket already!”

Stan snorts and purchases a ticket, immensely grateful for the student discount. He’s taken aback when Kyle grabs his arm and starts tugging.

“Hurry up, I want good seats!” Kyle exclaims.

“Dude, snacks!” Stan returns, to which Kyle replies, “Fuck snacks, Terrance and Phillip!”

Stan sighs, then quickly lets a wide smile overcome his face. He’s seeing the new Terrance and Phillip movie! God, he’s so excited.

The boys burst through the theater doors and find that almost all the good seats are taken, except for the middle seats in one of the top rows. They speed-walk towards that section, both having zoned in on it at the same time, and plop down in the seats. Stan starts to say something and Kyle shushes him as the previews start.

When the movie starts, Stan begins furiously shoveling the popcorn Kyle had bought down his throat, the latter having to smack his hand a couple times so he leaves enough for him. A quarter of the way through the movie, they run out of popcorn. Halfway through the movie, Stan realizes Kyle is holding his hand. By the end of the movie, their grips are tight and their jaws are dropped.

As people trickle out of the theater, they remain cemented in place, waiting for the post-credits scene they know is coming. “Dude,” Stan says.

“Dude,” Kyle replies.

After the post-credits scene, the boys finally release their grips on each other’s hands, flushing furiously.

“Dude, did you see that?” Stan asks in total disbelief.

“Of course I did, dumbass, that was insane!” Kyle replies. “The directors are geniuses! Having Phillip kill Terrance then revive him using his future self’s dug-up bones from a cemetery? Are you kidding me ? Where did they think of that?” he rants, eyes alight with excitement.

“Dude, I don’t even know! And that plot twist with Terrance’s dad? Insane!”

“I know dude!” Kyle replies vigorously. “Holy shit, that was so much better than I thought they were gonna do.”

“Well, what did you think they were gonna do?” Stan asks.

Kyle hums. “Definitely something lame. I mean, this was, what, their tenth movie or something? I assumed it would be a shitty closer, but now there has to be another.”

Stan gasps. “Holy shit, there’s gonna be another! Dude, I wonder when? I’m so excited!”

Kyle laughs, but when Stan turns to look at him, his eyes are dim. Stan’s eyebrows furrow but he doesn’t question it.

“So, Indiana Jones, right?” Stan asks as they exit the movie theater.

“Yup!” Kyle says, energy rejuvenated. “My house, let’s go!”

By the time the boys fall asleep, they’re halfway through the fourth movie. Kyle is using Stan’s shoulder as a pillow, legs outstretched on the bed. Stan’s head is propped up against Kyle’s, breathing deeply into his curls.

When Stan wakes up at some undetermined point of time, he finds Kyle has curled even further against him, and decides that he doesn’t mind at all.
