The whistling winds and the fresh air of the beach was all that Killua could feel and smell; the senses surrounded him and Gon on the hills of Whale Island.
It had been quite some time since they returned to Whale Island, after everything they had been through. It all seemed hopeless at one point, when there was only despair.
When Gon had walked forward, eyes black with rage, Killua was left in the dark.
Gon paid the price. Then he came back because of a wish, just in time. There was so much left unsaid, especially from Killua. He just wanted Gon back, no matter the cost, back from that fixed, dark-eyed look, and back from the teetering edge.
"Hey, Gon," Killua whispered, and the boy in question turned his head, eyes wide and curious.
"What's up, Killua? Something the matter?" Gon asked, walking through the tall grass over to the other boy.
Killua walked over, his eyes cast down, and then took a hold of Gon's hand, giving a gentle squeeze to get his attention on him instead.
"It's just that…I'm glad you're here," Killua said, looking up from the ground, his eyes on the boy's, and he smiled softly. "And I mean that."
Gon blinked, and he smiled back, beaming. "Yeah, I'm glad you're here too, Killua."
Killua nodded, feeling lighter. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
