Work Text:
It was too quiet, even after it was all over.
Chrollo Lucilfer was no more.
Tserriednich had perished.
And Kurapika survived.
He survived, his eyes scarlet, his heart thudded in his chest. He couldn't move. It was quiet in the infirmary, and Leorio was too busy tending to his wounds to scold or yell at him, pressing a cloth gently to his marred skin.
No matter how much he wanted to, anyway.
Although all the members of the Phantom Troupe were no more, with everyone else braving conditions to look for survivors—Kurapika hurt all over, especially his arms, red streams blood trickling down.
There wasn't, Leorio was sure, much at all that Kurapika could do without any risking further injury.
"You'll be okay." Leorio spoke finally, after a long period of silence, the humming of the ceiling lights in the background. He applied the disinfectant to a new cloth before saying, "I just have to finish bandaging you up." But he couldn't do that yet, he had to keep Kurapika from moving.
Leorio held Kurapika firmly by the shoulder with one hand, and he pressed the cloth gently with the other hand. Kurapika hissed between his teeth, shutting his eyes, grimacing from the sting on his skin.
"You'll be okay, Kurapika." Leorio said once again, and Kurapika opened his eyes as the sting faded soon as it arrived. He could almost try to make conversation, trying to take his mind off his hurting arm and onto the calm of Leorio's presence.
Exhaustion soon caught up to him, and Kurapika placed his head on Leorio's shoulder, resting his eyes.
"Thank you, Leorio…"
Blinking, Leorio then gently grasped both Kurapika's hands, holding them close to his chest.
"Don't mention it, Kurapika."
That did seem to help, even for a little while.
