“You really didn’t need to go to all this trouble, Camilia,” Raine says as their partner places a dish of delicious-smelling food in front of them.
They and Eda sit at the kitchen table in Camila’s house, having offered to help the entire time Camila cooked, but she always refused their help. She said she wanted this to be a treat for them, but Raine has a feeling that Eda specifically was banned from helping because she would inevitably try to involve her magic and cause chaos.
“Yeah, we could’ve just gotten that thing Luz told me about. What’s it called? A take-out?” Eda says.
“Si, a take-out,” Camila says, putting the final bowl on the table and taking her seat. “But I wanted to cook for you. I like cooking for my loved ones,” she says, averting her gaze bashfully in a manner that Raine finds adorable.
“Well, as long as you don’t mind,” Raine says.
Eda looks down at the bowl in front of her, and says, “This smells delicious.”
“Gracias.” Camila smiles. “Now, please enjoy my homemade sancocho cruzado. And don’t worry—I avoided any ingredients that aren’t good for witches.”
Raine wonders how she learned which human foods aren’t good for witches, but then they remember that Camila had four witches living with her for months and they all probably learned the hard way if witches can digest certain foods or not, making Camila an expert on the topic.
“Awesome!” Eda says, using her fork to spear a piece of meat and shoving it gracelessly into her mouth. With her mouth still full, she lets out a muffled, “Titan, this is amazing!”
“Thank you, mi amor,” Camila says, getting a little flustered from the praise.
Using their spoon to scoop up some of the broth, Raine puts it in their mouth, and their eyes widen at the taste. They’ve never eaten anything like it, but it’s delicious, a perfect combination of flavors and textures that makes them want more. They try some of the vegetables next, and until Eda kicks them under the table and snorts, they don’t realize how noisily they were eating. Raine’s cheeks flush and Eda laughs.
“I’m guessing you like it too, Raine,” Camila says, chuckling.
“I do, yeah. This is wonderful. Thank you, Camilia.”
And as Camila blushes under the praise, the three partners continue to eat the lovingly prepared meal.
