Chapter Text
Ben wasn’t a stranger to concussions unfortunately, or being mothered by Sarah and watched over by John when he had a concussion. Currently, Ben was in the Barnaby’s guest room, drifting in and out of sleep. Sleep was eluding him as his head pounded along with his heartbeat. All Ben wanted to do was sleep this off but he was going to be woken up periodically by John anyway, asking the same old questions time and time again.
Ben let out a sigh as he heard the bedroom door open, it was question time again. John entered the room and sat gently on the bottom of the bed. Ben cracked open his eyes and frowned at John.
“How many fingers am I holding up?” John held up 7 fingers.
“Seven” Ben replied bluntly, tired of this routine.
“How about now?” Four fingers were now being held up.
“Four” Ben groaned.
John let out a sigh “I know you don’t like this but it must be done. Now, what was the first Christmas present you gave to me?” John had come up with a whole list of random question to ask Ben.
Ben pondered for a moment “It was a pale ale from a local brewery. You were quite fond of it” he smiled, remembering that evening in the New Year; after a long case, sitting down on the Barnaby’s sofa with those pale ales.
John nodded “Shame they discontinued those ales. I’ll let you try and get some sleep for now” and with that, John got up and left.
Ben closed his eyes and played through the previous case in his head. Of course, he would be the one to get hit over the head with a shovel by a disgruntled farmer. He groaned and turned onto his side. He really needed to get some sleep before John and his questions came back again in an hour or two.
