Work Text:
“Hey, Akito, could I borrow your shower?”
Akito glanced up from his phone and looked over at Kohane, raising an eyebrow.
“I only have a bathtub in my bathroom, but sure,” he remarked jokingly, making Kohane chuckle.
“You knew what I meant! But thank you.”
Kohane and Akito had been dating for about half a year, with both of them being too incompetent to confess; Akito even more so. He fell for her on that forest camping trip when he saw her eyes shine by the fire and her bright smile while eating marshmallows. Even thinking about it, Akito could feel his heart flutter like he was a schoolgirl. Ironic, considering Kohane was the schoolgirl out of the two of them.
“Akito?” The male in question blinked, being pulled from his thoughts in an instant.
“Oh- uh, yeah?”
“I was asking if you wanted to join me. It’ll save water, a-and I can get your back!” This question made both of them erupt into warm hues, with Akito being the particularly red one. Him? Bathe with her? A girl? That he was dating somehow? He still didn’t know how that happened, but that was beside the point at that moment.
“Like- together? Are you sure?” he sputtered. “Not to say I mind or anything. If anything, that’d be kind of nice- shit, but not in a weird way or anything-“ Akito was cut off by airy laughter. The sound, like an angel’s harp to his lovesick ears, interrupted him. When her giggles died down, her gaze was soft as she spoke to him.
“You’re so cute, you know that?” Innocently ignoring Akito’s flustered, fragmented protests, she continued. “I suppose that’s a yes?”
He shut up and nodded, averting his eyes sheepishly. Kohane chuckled again and rolled her eyes lightheartedly before grabbing a towel and gathering the clothes she had picked out. Akito’s heart skipped a beat when he realized that all the clothes she had picked were his. To be fair, what was he expecting? She was staying over at his house without a packed bag. He watched with dumb eyes oozing of puppy love as she padded to the bathroom door and opened it with a quiet creak. The girl turned to him and tilted her head with a soft smile.
“Care to join?”
---
Akito sighed contently as he sunk into the sudsy, warm bathtub, his legs intertwining with those of his beloved. The girl in question yawned and stretched, laying with her back against his chest once he was finally situated. He couldn’t help but find this adorable, and ran his fingers through her hair, his heart melting as Kohane leaned into the touch.
And she called him cat-like.
“Ah, that feels nice,” she murmured, her eyes fluttering closed and her body relaxing further. Akito snorted with feigned annoyance and poked her teasingly.
“If you fall asleep, I’ll let you drown with no regrets.” Kohane’s eyes flew open, and she gasped overdramatically, turning around to meet his gaze.
“You’re not that cruel… are you?” Her faith in Akito dwindled as his signature grinch-like smirk unfolded across his face. She huffed pitifully and slouched forward in defeat.
“I suppose we should wash up then,” she sighed. Akito went back to that dopey grin that he always had while in his girlfriend’s presence before grabbing his bottle of shampoo.
“I’ll wash your hair if you want,” he offered, already lathering up his hands. Kohane read the label, her face growing horrified… Head and Shoulders? Was she dating a cave dweller?
“Not with that you’re not!” she exclaimed, watching as Akito’s face became one of confusion.
“What’s wrong with my shampoo?” Akito pondered, reading the bottle. “It’s just a 5 in 1…”
If her eyes weren’t bulging already, they certainly were now.
“U-um… do you have anything else? Like something that won’t make my hair fall out?” Akito frowned indignantly.
“I’ll have you know I use this stuff regularly and my hair is fine!” he replied defensively, but Kohane giving him a look that dripped with doubt. With a sigh, he continued.
“Fine, but If you really don’t want to use this stuff, use this random soap I got from a white elephant gift thing.” Akito handed her the bottle. It was some generic gas station shampoo, but it would do. She nodded approvingly, and he sighed with relief before pumping some into his hand. With that, Akito got to work, scrubbing her scalp and hair tenderly and watching fondly as she became putty in his hands. After a bit of him lathering up her hair, Kohane broke the comfortable silence with a remark that doubled as an unintentional quip.
“Mmm… I was expecting you to rip my hair out, to be honest.” Akito scowled indignantly.
“Hey! I can wash hair perfectly fine! You’re just a hater.” Kohane giggled sweetly at his reply and the hot water from the shower head quickly washed away their banter, as well as the suds from her hair. Her eyes fell shut once more, and she sighed as a peaceful silence overtook them. Once he finished rinsing her hair, Kohane decided to wash his as well, yet again refusing to use the 5 in 1 shampoo (much to Akito’s chagrin).
“I’m tellin’ ya, 5 in 1 works just fine,” he grumbled, directly contradicting his grumpy words by turning into a malleable blob at Kohane’s delicate touch. She sighed and shook her head, not even bothering to hold back her smile at his stubbornness.
“Whatever you say, Akito.”
---
After they had finished washing up, Akito turned the water off (because Kohane could not figure out how to work his bathtub to save her life) and tossed a towel to her. She yelped with surprise as it landed on her face, and Akito laughed as she pouted at him.
“If I wasn’t soaking wet still, I would make you regret that,” she huffed, her boyfriend laughing even more at her words. She shook her head with a smile and the two finally dried themselves off after dilly-dallying for so long. Once they were done with that, they got dressed, and that’s where Akito got flustered again.
His face grew a dark hue as Kohane finally emerged to the bathroom wearing his clothes, a gray shirt and a pair of his boxers. Considering he was much taller than her, though, the shirt looked like a dress, and it surprised him the boxers even fit her at all. She looked like a soggy hamster like this, if he was being honest. Without her contacts or glasses, Kohane couldn’t see Akito’s expression clearly. Hence, she was unaware of his inner struggles. Speaking of her being soggy and without vision, he should probably blow dry her hair.
“Hey, Kohane, want me to blow dry your hair?” he asked, and immediately she perked up.
“I-if you don’t mind…” Both of them, being the shy idiots they were, took a few moments to sit down at Akito’s bed together. The male in question fetched the blow dryer and plugged it into the wall, testing it before he used it. He learned the hard way from doing Ena’s hair as a kid that he had to do that. He still had the scars from his sister’s wrath that day…
Kohane sat between his legs neatly, and Akito couldn’t help but find the way she sat adorable. She sat with crossed legs and folded hands, smiling excitedly as Akito combed her hair with his fingers and turned on the blow dryer. The male only brushed his hair about twice a year if he had to guess (and, of course, everyone in his group judged him. They just didn’t understand…), so he never kept a brush or comb in his room. He probably buried it in the depths of hell with junk he hadn’t touched since middle school, if he ever had one, and he wouldn’t put in that much effort. Kohane didn’t seem to mind though as Akito’s fingers raked through her dripping wet hair with ease.
Soon enough, her hair was completely dry, and Akito turned the dryer off, tossing it to the side and watching with a smile as Kohane ran her fingers through her hair.
“You did a really good job. Thank you, Akito!” She practically glowed as she looked at him with grateful eyes, and if cupid’s arrow could hit him again, it would’ve in that moment.
“’s nothing. Happy you like it.” Despite the seemingly nonchalant reply, Akito was beyond giddy inside at both the praise and the joy he’d brought his girlfriend at such a simple showing of affection. Considering how terrible he was with words, he mainly showed his love for her through his actions, so seeing hers in return only served to make him feel as though he were above the clouds.
He startled as Kohane tackled him to the bed and burst into bubbly laughter, giving him butterflies in his stomach as he rolled them over so they were on their sides. Akito’s arms wrapped around her and he engulfed her in a smothering embrace, smirking deviously as she struggled in his grip and began laughing even more.
“No~, this is unfair!” she exclaimed, her voice muffled by Akito’s shirt. “Let me go!” Her laughter became contagious, and he soon started chuckling as well.
“Well, you started it!” He loosened his grip a bit and started smothering her again, but this time in kisses that he peppered all over her face. Kohane’s laughter died down to small, airy giggles.
“Fine, fine, I concede!” Even with her surrender, Akito continued to kiss Kohane’s freckles, his eyes gazing into hers and brimming with adoration. Kohane’s gaze was equally loving as she stared back at him, and when she saw an opening, she took it, her lips brushing against his tenderly. When she pulled away, all of Akito’s previous confidence was gone, and her actions left him a blushing mess.
Kohane’s eyes softened, and she cupped his face, the two of them finally falling into tranquility after their bath and play fight.
“You’re so cute, you know that?”
