Get Diagnosed. Loser.

Summary:

"That's just 'cause you're autistic or whatever!" She bit back.

"What?! No I'm not! What— Why would you think that?!" He exclaimed as if he were actually confused about what she'd just said.

Notes:

This one's short but I'm obligated to project my autism on all my favs and viktor is no exception

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Why do you keep giving me that look?" Sevika bristled.

Viktor watched with irritation as she took another huge, messy bite out of her sandwich before trying to refocus his attention on the academy testing packet he'd brought to the bar to work through. "Never mind..." He mumbled.

She sighed at his crypticness but for the most part, tried to ignore him. However, it wasn't long till he was shooting her another glare and she slammed her fist down on the bar in frustration. "Look, do you want some of my sandwich? Is that it?"

"No, I ate at the lab." He brushed her off, turning back to his work yet again though with the force he was gripping his pencil with, it was clear that something was still bothering him.

"Whatever." Sevika huffed, "Your loss."

He was probably just in a mood, Sevika decided. Maybe his experiment blew up again or maybe he got into an argument with the Doctor and now, instead of punching a wall like a normal person, he was taking his anger out on her instead.

But it was getting old quick and it was honestly really starting to piss her off.

So the next time he let out an exaggerated sigh, she stood up, knocking her chair back in the process. "Oh my god, what is your problem?!"

He was a little taken off guard but was quick to plaster a disapproving look on his face. "It doesn't matter, just forget about it."

"Pretty fucking hard when you won't stop pulling faces and sighing like you've got bills to pay! You're being a huge fucking pain right now, you know that?!"

"What's going on?" They both looked up, pausing their frowning and seething for a moment, to see Singed standing in the doorway, probably having finally escaped Silco's endless discussions about all the weapons he wanted made.

"Sevika's being mean!" Viktor jumped in quickly before Sevika even had a chance to defend herself. Suck up.

"He's sitting here pulling faces at me but he won't actually tell me what's bothering him so fucking much!" Sevika argued, shooting him a dirty look.

"Viktor, what's bothering you?" Singed asked, trying to mediate though clearly fed up with it already.

"She eats too loud! I'm trying to focus on my work but all I can hear is her chewing!" He complained, throwing his hands up in frustration.

"I don't eat that loud!" She scoffed.

"You do! It's all I can hear!"

"That's just 'cause you're autistic or whatever!" She bit back.

"What?! No I'm not! What— Why would you think that?!" He exclaimed as if he were actually confused about what she'd just said.

"Uh, yeah you are! Right, Doc?" Sevika said, turning to Singed to back her up. Viktor followed suit, sure that Singed would shut her down and hopefully shut her up but the man's response was the complete opposite of what he'd anticipated.

"Yes." Singed said simply, "I had suspected that may be the case after examining your behaviour in the lab so I ran through the diagnostic criteria and an awful lot of it did apply so it could be said that, yes, you are autistic."

Sevika immediately burst out laughing at the look on Viktor's face.

"Huh?" He said softly, staring blankly at the Doctor and then Sevika and then the Doctor again.

"It's not a bad thing." The Doctor reassured him, "Just... a thing."

"Why were you aware of this when I wasn't?" Viktor demanded, suddenly snapping around to scowl at Sevika who now had tears in her eyes from her laughter.

"Just sort of assumed. I mean it's kinda obvious." She shrugged.

"No, it's not!" Viktor argued, suddenly very defensive.

"One time I told you to break a leg and you started explaining how leg breaks happen and precisely how to treat them." She reminded him bluntly with a deadpan look on her face.

"There's nothing wrong with that!" Viktor pushed back, and Sevika mumbled a quiet 'never said there was' in response. "I was just educating you! That's completely normal. Right Singed?"

Singed seemed to have sided enough with Sevika for one day as he nodded in response to the boy's question. "I see nothing wrong with that. It is valuable knowledge after all."

"Yeah well, maybe you're autistic too." Sevika rolled her eyes, going back to her sandwich as she had gotten all the entertainment out of this conversation as she possibly could.

"Perhaps." Singed simply replied in response, unbothered.

"Stop eating like an animal!" Viktor all but screamed at her.

Sevika laughed, purposely getting closer to his ear and chewing even more obnoxiously.

She was promptly smacked across the back of the head by his cane.
