   Summary

   Coriolanus Snow, a self-serving translator for the British diplomat in Germany, is very unimpressed with the life of his girlfriend Lucy Gray Baird in numerous ways; her appalling little dog that has a menacing, crazed hatred of any male living creature of which Coriolanus is a direct target; the fact that she is a nanny for a French family who made their fortune by economic extortion, racketeering, and corrupting horse races; and the fact she lives in a very expensive and beautiful property paid for by the rather nasty French family rather than moving into Coriolanus's own home.
