Alhaitham Doesn't Do Baby Talk...Or Does He?

Summary:

"It says in here that the baby can probably hear us if we talk to it," Alhaitham hums, "And that it's good for development."

Cyno perks up a bit, "Really?"

"Not like it will hurt if this is wrong," Alhaitham shrugs, "Plus Kaveh likes the attention."

Cyno gives the bump a small kiss before clearing his throat, "Hello-"

Notes:

I had a desire to write something fluffy with all the angst happening in literally everything else I'm working on, and thus this happened.

I honestly kinda like the concept, don't be surprised if more comes of this.

Work Text:

Tighnari is laying behind Kaveh on his side, curled against his back in an attempt to spoon him, although their height difference makes it difficult.

Alhaitham is on the other side of Tighnari, reading, rather than joining the cuddling.

Cyno is in front of Kaveh on his side, much lower in the bed, with his head against Kaveh's tummy, eyes closed and forehead pressed to the bump.

Kaveh is on his side, one hand under the pillow he's laying on, the other softly playing with Cyno's hair.

"I swear if you make some stupid pun to our baby I'll kick you off the bed around Kaveh...or using Kaveh if I have to," Tighnari threatens.

Cyno laughs before starting again, "Tighnari doesn't like my jokes."

"Neither does Kaveh," Kaveh chimes in.

"Maybe you will," Cyno pouts playfully.

"Not unless they get funnier once you're actually a dad," Alhaitham chides.

"Don't be like your other fathers and bully me for my sense of humor, please."

Kaveh twists one of Cyno's bangs around his fingers, "We don't bully you."

"Yes you do."

"Don't listen to him," Tighnari sits up, leaning around Kaveh to talk to his stomach too, "Cyno deserves it, sometimes."

"You all know the baby can't really understand you yet, right?"

"Stop being a spoil sport and come talk to your baby," Kaveh huffs.

Alhaitham sits up, getting off the bed to go around and sit beside Cyno's legs, leaning around him to get to Kaveh's bump.

The others wait quietly for him to say something, but he just sits there.

"Say something," Kaveh insists.

"I don't really have anything to say to an unborn baby."

"You don't have anything you want to say to them?"

"I don't. I can talk to you three and it will be the same as if I spoke directly to it."

Kaveh sighs, his shoulder not on the bed dropping slightly, "If you're gonna be like that..."

Cyno's mouth is tightened to a line and Tighnari is flat out glaring at Alhaitham.

"Why did you even say anything if you're going to be like this?" Tighnari asks.

"Because I thought you three would enjoy it, and it really does say it's good for development..."

Alhaitham gets up again, this time leaving the room...

Alhaitham comes back into the room while later and finds Kaveh on his back, Cyno laying next to him, curled up on Kaveh's chest, while Tighnari, on the other side of Kaveh, laying on his stomach, taking up most of the space usually reserved for Alhaitham.

The scribe climbs up the foot of the bed to lay over Kaveh's legs and lower stomach, putting his face in line with Kaveh's baby bump.

"Hi...I...still don't have much to say to you...I'm your father...one of your fathers, you have a lot more than most people...this is...hard...I love you...and I love your other fathers, too...we're going to fight sometimes...or...a lot...it's going to be a lot...but we love each other...and you're not even here yet, but we love you, too...I'm glad you can't understand me...I think I'm just rambling..."

"That was sorta sweet."

Alhaitham jumps, hard, almost waking Kaveh and Cyno, and sees brown and green eyes peaking at him.

"How long have you been awake?"

"I wasn't asleep."

"So you-"

"Heard every word of that," Tighnari sits up, smiling at Alhaitham, "I thought it was sweet."

Alhaitham turns red, looking away, and Tighnari moves, tugging the scribe by the arm to his normal spot in the bed.

Once Alhaitham lays down Tighnari gives him a quick peck on the lips, "And for what it's worth, we all love you, too."

Alhaitham leans up to give Tighnari a second kiss, "I know."

Tighnari lays on Alhaitham's chest, curling up against him.
