Work Text:

Rody was so busy during his shift that he didn’t even notice the the rain outside.

Once Rody was done with his work, he open the door and had to use all his body strength to push it back shut when the wind and rain came pouring in.

He decided to wait it out by the door and sat down. It was boring just sitting there and he eventually nodded off.

He was rudely awakened by somebody lightly kicking him, “Lamoree, wake up.”

He looked up and couldn’t tell if the look on Vince’s face was concern or disgust.

“Why are you still here? Your shift ended hours ago.” He questioned the half-asleep Rody.

“Oh um, I can’t get home through all the rain…” he muttered embarrassed. He stood up and dusted himself off.

Vince peered out the window, “Yes, I suppose you can’t. Very well. You can stay with me tonight.” He said as he rolled his eyes and started walking to the stairs of his apartment.

“Really? You’d do that for me?” Rody asked like a puppy with excitement in his eyes.

“Yes, Lamoree. I just said it, didn’t I?”

Rody’s eyes peered around Vince’s apartment. He’d only been in there once before when he waited on that party.

“Go shower and I’ll leave some clean clothes behind the door.”

Rody enjoyed the hot water, his place currently had the hot water shut off.

He exited the shower and creaked the door open. Just as Vince had said there were clothes there.

Rody swiped them and closed the bathroom door again. It was a pair of checkered pajamas pants, a white v-neck, and a pair of boxers that were still in packaging. Rody wondered if he had these just for his guests.

The shirt was a little tight but that was to be expected. The rest surprisingly fit fine.

He stepped out into the hallway and smelled something amazing. He walked into the kitchen and saw Vince preparing something.

“What are you making?” Rody asked curiously.

Vince flinched and turned around to glare at Him, “Don’t scare me like that. I’m making tomato soup.”

“Sorry…” Rody murmured and sat at one of island chairs.

When he was served He ate the soup enthusiastically and noticed Vince walking off.

“Where are you going?”

“To bed. Enjoy the couch.”

After eating, Rody washed his dishes and layed down on the couch. He noticed a blanket folded neatly on the other end. Vince must have put that out for him.

He listened to the rain for what seems like hours. He found it quite relaxing but what he couldn’t stand about storms was the-

A flash of light flashed through the window and Rody let out a small sqeak.

He wrapped himself in the blanket and braced for what happened next trembling.

He whined. He was shaking. He curled in on himself while crying.

He felt a hand suddenly rest upon his back, “Rody? What’s wrong?”

Rody had never screamed so loud in his entire life.

It took forever to get Vince to calm him down. He had never seen the chef in such distress. By the end the lights were on and he had a mug of hot chocolate in his hands.

Vince sat next to him.“Mind telling me what’s wrong?”

Rody took a sip of his hot chocolate, “It’s stupid but ever since I was a kid i’ve been afraid of thunder and lightning…”

Vince nodded silently and just watched him drink the hot chocolate.

Once Rody was done drinking. Vince said, “sleep in my bed tonight.”

“What?” Rody sputtered turning red.

“It’s more comfortable.”

Rody mentally slapped himself for thinking it could be anything else.

Once they had gotten into bed, he had to agree that it was a lot more comfortable.

After thirty minutes he was still awake though, listening to the storm.

He saw another flash and whined.

He flinched when he felt Vince’s arms wrap around him, “Go to sleep, Rody.”

He feel asleep soon after that.
