Perfect

Summary:

“You’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.”

“Nick,” Charlie whispered, briefly closing his eyes and shaking his head. “You don’t mean it. Just look at me,” he said weakly.

“I am looking at you,” Nick said with nothing but love in his eyes. “And I see a beautiful, handsome, gorgeous man.”

Charlie just shrugged.

“Can you tell me what you see, love?” Nick asked.

“Just… me.” Charlie said. “Ordinary, not-very-special me.”

“Nothing about you is ordinary, baby,” Nick said. “Nothing."

Or,

Charlie doesn't think he's particularly handsome. Luckily, Nick is there to prove him wrong.

This fic is part of the Heartstopper Prompt Challenge, the prompt was “Shut up, I'm trying to confess my love to you”.

Notes:

Hi, welcome to my new prompt fic!

This time I tried something different: less fluff, more hurt/comfort (but fluff is still here, because it's Nick&Charlie). I'm really nervous, but I hope you like it.

*Now it’s part of the mini series about our boys being supportive to each other. You can read part two here.

Thank you kay_lalala and hereforhsfanfic for your support and kind words. I wasn't sure if this story was worth posting, but your comments and cheerleading helped me a lot. You're the best and I'm so lucky to have you!

TW: Mention of scars (non-graphic), Charlie being hard on his body image.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Char, look!” Nick said enthusiastically, sitting up on the bed and showing Charlie his phone with pictures of the ‘Wonka’ premiere.

“Olivia Colman! Oh god, I love her. She looked fabulous at the premiere,” Charlie said with a smile, putting away his book and taking Nick’s phone.

“She really did,” Nick replied, admiring the pictures. “She has the best smile, too.”

“True. And whoa, look at that suit! Gorgeous!” Charlie said, pointing at the photo of Timothée Chalamet in a purple velvet suit.

“Yeah, he looked fantastic. You’d look great in it too,” Nick said with a smile. “You kinda look like him.”

“Yeah, maybe a little. But he’s handsome,” he said simply, giving Nick his phone back and going back to reading without another word.

Nick looked at his boyfriend, completely speechless.

“W-what do you mean?” he finally asked.

“Hm? What?” Charlie looked at Nick, surprised. “Oh, I mean I might look like Timothée a bit, with the curls and everything… but I’m not that handsome.”

“Yes, you are,” Nick said immediately. “You’re more than handsome. You’re beautiful,” Nick said earnestly, taking Charlie’s hand and looking him in the eyes.

“That’s sweet, Nick,” Charlie blushed. “But you’re my boyfriend, you’re obligated to say that.”

“I am your boyfriend, yes, but I couldn’t be more serious, Char!” Nick said, throwing his book on the bed and taking Charlie’s other hand.

“You don’t have to say that.”

“I do. And I’ll keep on saying it until you believe me,” Nick said.

“Nothing. I love everything about you. I love your hands.” Nick looked at Charlie’s hands which he still held in his.

“My hands? What’s so special about them?” Charlie asked, surprised.

“They’re so strong and delicate at the same time,” Nick said, kissing them both before letting go to cup Charlie’s cheeks. “I love your face, too.”

Charlie just smiled shyly.

“I love your eyes.”

“Nothing special about my eyes either…” Charlie started, but Nick shook his head.

“No, they’re amazing and so unique. I love their colour,” Nick said. “And I love the way they sparkle when you laugh,” he added, gently touching Charlie’s strong brows. “What’s next… Ah, your nose.”

“I kind of like it,” Charlie admitted quietly, not looking at Nick.

“Good,” Nick said, kissing the top of Charlie’s nose. “It’s so pretty.”

Charlie smiled and his dimples popped out.

“Oh, here they are,” Nick said, kissing both of them. “I love these two especially.”

“I know you do,” Charlie admitted.

“They’re my favourite. Along with your curls,” he said, playing with a long curl and tucking it behind Charlie’s ear. “Your ears are cute, too.”

“Nooo,” Charlie groaned. “I don’t like them, they’re too prominent and-“ Nick stopped him with a kiss.

“Don’t you dare say a bad word about them, or I’ll have to keep kissing your gorgeous. Full. Perfect. Lips.” he said, kissing him after every word.

“You’re ridiculous,” Charlie said, but he couldn’t stop smiling and kissed his boyfriend again.

“Now, let’s move a little lower,” Nick murmured, kissing Charlie’s chin and moving to his neck, sucking gently.

“Nick,” Charlie whispered. “Don’t leave a mark, I have classes tomorrow,”

“I know, don’t you worry,” Nick said, pecking the spot he just sucked and moving lower.

“Your collarbone, oh.. it’s so gorgeous,” he whispered, touching the delicate skin there.

“Too… skinny…” Charlie said quietly.

“No. Definitely not. Lean and elegant, yes. Like your whole body,” Nick replied immediately.

“But I’m not built like you,” he said.

“And that’s exactly why I adore you so much.” Nick continued to kiss Charlie and move his body, so they were lying down on their bed. “You’re so slim and your skin is so silky and beautifully tanned,” he said softly.

“I… really h-hate it,” Charlie stuttered, covering his eyes with his forearm.

“Oh baby,” Nick said worriedly. “Why? Can you tell me?” he whispered.

“Because of… y-you know,” Charlie stammered.

“Your scars?” Nick guessed.

“Yeah,” Charlie said, taking his forearm off his face and wiping away a few tears. “They’re ugly.”

“Oh baby,” Nick moved his head from Charlie’s chest and cupped his face again. “I know it’s a difficult topic for you, and I know you don’t like talking about it,” he pecked Charlie’s cheek. “And I don’t expect you to love them, but I need you to know that I don’t find them ugly at all, okay?” he said.

“I know. But they remind me of those dark times,”

“I understand,” Nick stroked his cheek. “But they’re also an evidence of how strong and resilient you are, darling.”

“Thank you,” Charlie whispered.

“You don’t have to thank me, baby,” Nick kissed him softly on his cheek. “And I’m not saying that to make you feel good. I’m saying that because it’s true and I really mean it. You’re the strongest person I know.”

Charlie blinked a few times and smiled.

“You’ve said that to me before.”

“Yes, I have,” Nick replied. “You’re the kindest, most thoughtful and caring…”

“I see what you’re doing.”

“… and amazing person…”

“Nick.”

“… in the whole world…”

“Nick!”

“What?” Nick laughed.

“Shut up, I’m trying to confess my love to you,” Charlie smiled.

“Oh, are you now?” Nick teased.

“Yes, you dork,” Charlie said.

“Go on, then.”

“I love you,” Charlie whispered.

“I love you, too,” Nick replied. He couldn’t stop smiling.

“So… Do you really think I’m handsome?” Charlie asked shyly.

“Yes,” Nick said without missing a beat. He knew he was the luckiest man in the world. “Perfect,” he whispered, kissing Charlie’s forehead. “For me you’re perfect.”
