Chapter Text
Merlin knew this was going to be a horrible day. He had been collecting herbs for Gaius (as usual) when bandits attacked him. (Common) Yet after all the bandit attacks that's happened to him, the bandits seemed to never stop spilling from the trees, he got captured.m
Thankfully he had escaped before he could be taken into more trouble. Yet it had been two full days. Arthur would not be happy with this one. Knowing Gaius, he would probably be in the tavern. Apparently.
Merlin knew as soon as he stepped foot into Camelot he would be called to Arthur's chambers. And that's exactly what happened. Merlin, was now walking to Arthur's chambers. When he arrived in Arthur's chambers, he stood silent while Arthur, sitting in a chair with his hands holding his face up, gave a disappointed look.
Merlin gained deja vu from it happening once before.
"Two full days in the tavern. Again."
"Heh, really? Time must've slipped by.."
"And last time I thought you would've learned your lesson." Arthur put his hands down and shook his head,
"What wha-"
"George!!" Merlin was cut off by Arthur's screaming for a servant. Soon he was greeted by a face he knew all to well. Honestly George looked exactly like Merlin, except George was a more better and qualified servant than Merlin could ever actually be.
You've got to be kidding me. Was all Merlin could really think.
"Since your two days trip in the tavern may have messed with your head a bit, since you apparently lost what the concept of time is, maybe working with george for a day or two would help you remember how to be a good servant." Arthur explained with the hint of sourness on the top.
"Go off then, your teaching has already begun." Arthur glared at Merlin with a look of evilness. Merlin wouldn't let this get to him. Infact he already had a plan that could make this easier for both him and George.
As George and Merlin went over how to shiny the armour, sharpen the sword only one thought lingered in Merlin head.
Why was George aiming to be the perfect servant?
So by the time they went to go over how to wash the clothes, Merlin asked the question. "Why are you aiming to be a perfect servant?" Merlin said it way to quickly it was hard to understand.
George stopped dead in his tracks. He glanced over and gave a confused look. Merlin looked at him waiting for a response knowing fully George heard him.
"Im not telling. As this is none of your business the only task at hand is to relearn this." George responded in his casual, motionless, servant tone.
"Yea but I never listen to Arthur. He's to much of a prat."
"It's *my lord* ugh, nevermind. Just focus at the task at hand. And no questions that aren't work related. I don't fancy making friends during a work environment."
"You sure? We could be like the best duo!" (So not canon Merlin but I fully don't know what he'd say)
"I'm sure of it."
"Trust me, you and I could be like best buds, you can tell me brass jokes that would annoy Arthur, also why do you make those jokes?" Merlin yapped and it was getting a bit away from the topic but Merlin stopped himself. "Why do you make those jokes?" Merlin asked formally to George look to him for any answer.
"I thought I said no unrelated questions. Only work questions.?" George asked turning his head to Merlin, he watched Merlin nod. "But I suppose it doesn't hurt to atleast tell you" George said and he looked to Merlin who looked like he was desperately waiting for an answer. "Each and every single time they always have an annoyed expression it's always so entertaining to see."
"My Gaius.... Who knew you could be devilish.." Merlin thought aloud
"Yea, you know it gets lonely I don't really have friends because they y'know just see the typical snitch." That's when George rolled his eyes and turned his head, finding interest in nothing.
"Not anymore, you have me now. We'll be like a... -"
"Unexpected duo?" George finished the sentence for Merlin.
"Yea!" Merlin said and smiles at the new found friend. He used to once hate this name and face but he'd grown to liking it.
"You know Merlin. I suspect this will be a fun, fun time."
And that it was.
No one even knew they were friends. But unfortunately to Arthur he had to deal with brass jokes from Merlin now. Which made him more moody than he already is.
After a while Merlin and George became really good friends.
One day when Merlin had spent to much time in the tavern he was sent with George again, which Arthur was not happy about doing since Merlin had enough brass jokes to tell.
"Hey Merlin?" George asked as he polished the armour.
"Hm?" Was responded they focused more on the armour than the convocation.
"I'm gonna tell you something, promise you won't tell anyone?" George turned and looked at Merlin a bit more serious this time. Merlin answered with a hum and a puzzled look.
"I'm a sorcerer." George let out. Merlin didn't actually know how to respond. Of course what he'd not do is tell george he too is a sorcerer.
"I am too.." Merlin whispered back. he silently cursed him. why did he tell george... He found himself thinking.
*Can you hear me?* A voice in Merlin's head spoke.
*You know how to do this* Merlin answered surprised
*Well yea.. but now we can speak when ever*
*Yea your right*
They returned to the chores
