Work Text:
Beomgyu was slightly panicking. It was the night before Soobin’s birthday and Beomgyu still had yet to finish his gift. He had been working on it for the past three days and was finished three-quarters of the way. He only had three and a half hours to finish, and Beomgyu was collapsing under the pressure of his self-imposed deadline.
He would finish, even if it bled into tomorrow morning, but the pressure to give Soobin the best twenty-third birthday was evident in his ever-quickening brush strokes. On top of that, it was his first time seriously painting something for someone he loved. Before, it was just something to fill time. A new hobby so he wouldn’t always follow the boys around after they got back from work. But now it had meaning , worth. And Beomgyu sure as hell was not going to disappoint the older.
Beomgyu picked his paintbrush up from the tin, breathing in as he dipped his brush into his cup of water, before dipping it into his acrylics. He silently painted over the pencil marks of Soobin’s edges, glint in his eye as he poured his heart onto the canvas.
❤️
Much to Beomgyu’s surprise, he finished Soobin’s gift at a non-ungodly hour of the night. When he retired to his private room for the night, his first night in his private room in a couple of months, he immediately collapsed on his bed, forgoing his usual nightly routine of debating whose room to sleep in and absorbing as much warmth as possible in favor of getting as much rest for Soobin’s birthday as possible.
Soobin, for some reason completely unknown to Beomgyu, did not decide to take time off work for his birthday. Neither did his other boyfriends, which meant Beomgyu would be alone for some time while the others were at work.
After they finished their breakfast for the day, the others left for work, and Beomgyu was left to his vices, as usual. He went to his newly finished studio, sitting on his usual stool and staring silently at the large canvas resting on his easel.
The first to return home was Yeonjun with arrangements necessary for the surprise party they were going to throw Soobin. It was still fairly early in the afternoon; Beomgyu hadn’t had lunch in favor of working on his new piece. Little did Yeonjun know this was becoming commonplace for Beomgyu. But, more on that later. Taehyun would presumably come home next with the balloons, and then Kai would come home with the cake ingredients.
As to be expected, the others came home in the exact order Beomgyu predicted they would. He was astonished that he knew so much about his boyfriends while still discovering so much about himself.
When Kai got back from work, they promptly got to work. Soobin was sure not to be home until five, maybe even six pm, which meant they had a little under an hour and a half to decorate and make his cake. They split off into predetermined teams, weighing efficiency higher than any other priority they had.
Beomgyu and Kai were tasked to make the cake, while Taehyun and Yeonjun worked on decorating the downstairs. Beomgyu and Kai had been practicing baking for the past couple of weeks in secret, considering neither of them had tried their hands at it before. Now, they were confident in their skills.
And so, they got to work. They preheated the oven, made the cake batter, poured it into the pan, and put it in the oven. Just as Beomgyu was going to set a timer for the cake on his phone, Yeonjun called Kai over to help put some decorations up in a difficult spot. As Kai was busy making the frosting, Beomgyu ran over instead, setting his phone on an inconspicuous spot on the table underneath their TV and reaching his arms over his head to help Yeonjun tape the banner up to the wall.
While Kai helped Taehyun hang the last of the decorations, Yeonjun ordered Soobin’s favorite food for delivery, Neapolitan spaghetti, buggeopang, and samgyeopsal. The preparations were almost done; all they needed was to finish the cake, and––
“AHH! FIRE!!” Kai screeched from the kitchen, waving a towel near the oven as black smoke arose from it.
Uh oh.
Beomgyu immediately set the knife down from where he was cutting strawberries, unlocking the latch to the window and fully opening it. Just as he did, the front door unlocked, and Soobin walked inside with a tired but satisfied smile on his face.
“Hey--woah. What happened here?” He set his bag down, before turning to face his boyfriends in the kitchen with an amused and intrigued smile on his face.
“Uh--” Kai turned around, stopping in his tracks as he stared at Soobin with wide eyes.
Beomgyu stared at the older silently, eyes wide as embarrassment and shame crowded his body. He silently held his head as Kai took the now-black, overly-charred cake out of the oven.
He had one job. He had one job and he still managed to screw it up. He silently bit his lip as tears swelled in his eyes. And, as the boys had learned, once the tears started it wouldn’t be long until they fell, hard and soft. Beomgyu crouched against their cabinets, bringing his knees to his chest and folding his head into his knees.
Soobin’s eyes instantly landed on Beomgyu, the older walking over to him with a slightly serious expression on his face.
“Beomgyu?” He crouched, worried tone in his voice.
“I’m…sorry. I wanted everything to be perfect today.” He curled into himself emotionally, blubbery tone in his voice.
“Hm? What do you mean? Today is already perfect .” Soobin rubbed his large, slender hand on Beomgyu’s hair as he smiled warmly.
“Eh? But––” Beomgyu lifted his head from his chest, teary expression on his face.
“I had breakfast with the four loves of my life, I had a great day at work, and now I come home to find my boyfriends surprising me for my birthday? Today is the best birthday ever. ” Soobin whispered, eyes illuminated with wonder and merriment at the situation unfolding before him.
“B––but I burned the cake.” He whispered, eyes welling with tears once more.
“We can just make another, then. I think it’d be much more meaningful if we baked it together. So, what do you say my little sous-chef?” He held his hand out to Beomgyu, letting the hybrid take it with a warm smile on his face. Beomgyu silently nodded, drying his tears silently. They both stood up from the floor, Soobin intertwining his fingers in Beomgyu’s.
❤️
Their night was filled with warm, easy laughs. Beomgyu and Soobin ended up going to the store together to get more cake mix, but it was all in easy merriment and warm smiles toward each other as they held each other’s hands.
After they finished dinner and ate some cake (more like shoved it into each others’ mouths playfully in pure awe and love of one another), they moved on to opening presents.
“Open mine first, hyung!” Kai held his present in front of Soobin excitedly, the older taking it with a warm smile on his face.
“Oh, a bread keychain! How cute! I’m gonna put this on my work bag!” Soobin’s eyes sparkled, intrigued, as he smiled widely and gazed at the keychain.
“I’m glad you like it, hyung!” Kai smiled widely, instantly lighting the room with warmth.
Soobin scooched toward Kai, closing his eyes as he kissed the younger on the cheek softly. Kai giggled softly, lips curling into a cute smile as he closed his eyes.
Next, Taehyun. He shyly handed Soobin his gift, a blush on his cheeks as he appeared slightly embarrassed. Soobin smiled, looking intermittently between the gift and Taehyun. He carefully unwrapped the wrapping paper, before gazing at the gift surprisedly.
“It’s a photo album. I remember you said…you wanted to take more photos next year. I’ve already put some in there…but it’s a good start.” Taehyun nervously ranted, as he usually did when he went out of his way to do something for his boyfriends.
“Oh…Taehyun-ah, it’s perfect. Oh my god…thanks.” Soobin smiled, reaching his elongated arms out to the younger and smothering him in a hug before peppering his hair and forehead in kisses. Taehyun giggled softly, a tickling sensation overtaking his head.
After Taehyun, Yeonjun took the liberty of going next. He handed the large box to Soobin, the other looking at the older expectantly before tearing the wrapping paper away.
“A new cashmere scarf! Oh, it’s perfect. Mine is a little old now.” Soobin took the scarf out of the box before rubbing the material with his hands and looking at his old scarf hung on a random doorknob.
“Mm-hm. I thought the color would suit you so I made it after buying a new spool of thread for one of my upcoming projects.” Yeonjun smiled, a secretly excited expression on his face.
“You made it? Wowww…it’s been a while.” Soobin smirked teasingly. They all knew it was in good fun all the same though.
“Shut up! I can do it when I’m inspired, you know.” Yeonjun pointed out, all of the boys silently agreeing in response.
“Okay, okay, let’s move on. All that’s left is Beomgyu’s.” Soobin smiled expectantly, glint in his eye as excitement shone through his voice. Beomgyu slightly curled into himself.
“I––I kinda finished it last minute, so I couldn’t wrap it with anything special, but––” Beomgyu stuttered, blinking nervously as his hands shakily stretched towards Soobin’s.
“Just give it!” Soobin yanked it out of Beomgyu’s hands, the hybrid sputtering and nervously curling his fingers towards his hands as he watched Soobin’s reaction.
Soobin untied the red bow from the middle of the painting before his smile faded and he gazed at the painting in his hands, face wiped clean of emotion and a newfound glint in his eye.
“Ooh, it’s a portrait!” Kai leaned next to Soobin, eyes glinting with pure joy.
“Did you use a picture as reference or did you paint it from memory, Beomgyu-hyung?” Taehyun smiled as he gazed at the painting.
“From memory. Soobin-hyung laughs so much it’s almost etched into my brain.” Beomgyu joked softly, the others laughing softly. Everyone except Soobin. Beomgyu silently gazed at the older as Soobin continued to stare at the painting with a neutral expression on his face.
“Do…you like it? I know I’m not a professional or anything, but––” Beomgyu was cut off with a large sob. He immediately gazed at Soobin with wide eyes as the older held his hand over his mouth and tears continued to build up in his eyes.
“Hyung?! Soobin-hyung?! What’s wrong? Don’t cry! I’m sorry, I didn’t think it was that bad though. You don’t have to keep it! I won’t be mad, I swear!” Beomgyu blubbered, clearly panicked as he waved his hands in front of him and looked at Soobin worriedly.
“No––that’s not––it’s…it’s so beautiful, Beomgyu-ah. Is––is this how you see me?” Soobin smiled the widest smile, shaking his head as he continued gazing at the painting.
“Uh…yeah. Of course, it is. I know I make fun of you a lot, but…I still love you. More than anything, hyung.” Beomgyu nodded, blushing as he grabbed the tips of Soobin’s fingers intimately and smiled softly.
Soobin gazed at Beomgyu, smiling genuinely, vulnerably. Beomgyu smiled back warmly, softly.
“Soobin-hyung’s right. This painting is really beautiful.” Taehyun smiled, looking at the painting and at Beomgyu intermittently.
“It’s…nothing, really. And, well, my inspiration for the painting definitely helped.” Beomgyu smiled, fingers intertwining tighter with Soobin’s as he looked at the older. Soobin smiled, tilting his head, clearly endeared by the hybrid, before leaning in and closing his eyes as he pumped his lips out. Beomgyu closed his eyes as well, before connecting his lips to Soobin’s.

Taehyun technically had two celebrations for his 22nd birthday. The first was with his family, while the second, the day after his birthday, was with his boyfriends. Taehyun always made it a point to visit his family on his birthday, mainly because it was the only time his sister could get off of work, and his family still lived in Seoul, so they weren’t too far to visit either.
“Beomgyu-hyung, do you want to meet my family tomorrow?” Taehyun smiled from the opposite side of their dining table. Beomgyu looked at Taehyun as he chewed his food and silently swallowed.
“Can I? Really?” His eyes glimmered as he smiled anticipatingly.
“Yeah. I’ve been wanting to introduce you to them so this’ll be perfect. I wasn’t able to visit them last year because of work either, so we’ll probably stay a while.”
“You’re gonna love them, Beomgyu-hyung! They’re really friendly! We all consider them our parents so I’m sure you will too.” Kai smiled, swallowing his food as he spoke.
Beomgyu smiled silently, nodding in response.
Taehyun’s family was an hour and a half away from their house. So, they made their way over at the ripe hour of eight am. Their ride was mostly spent in easy conversations and intermittent silence. Whenever their conversation vanished, Beomgyu’s nervousness crowded his mind. This would be his first time meeting one of his boyfriend’s families, and while he was sure Taehyun’s family was as nice as the others said, there was a slight part of him that was sure he’d mess up his first impression with them in the most absurd way he could imagine.
When they arrived, Beomgyu hesitantly exited the car, nervousness evident in his expression. Taehyun smiled softly, grabbing Beomgyu’s hand before nodding toward the older and stepping toward the threshold of his parent’s house. His ears were nowhere to be seen, yet his tail was stiff and spiked.
“Just be yourself,” Taehyun whispered as he knocked on the door, looking forward with a sure smile on his face. Beomgyu just nervously nodded, breathing out carefully and looking forward as well.
“Ahh, our Taehyunie is finally here! Come in, come in!” Taehyun’s mother opened the door, ushering the boys to enter. They both entered silently, Taehyun with an easy smile on his face and Beomgyu with a hesitant smile.
“Mom, I want to introduce you to my new boyfriend, Beomgyu. You saw him on the Christmas postcard we sent, remember?” Taehyun’s fingers tightened against Beomgyu’s hand, Beomgyu looking at him silently as the younger looked at him simultaneously, smiling surely.
“Of course, I remember! Beomgyu, right? It’s nice to formally meet you!” She smiled warmly, and Beomgyu thought her resemblance to Taehyun was slightly uncanny.
“Yes. It’s nice to meet you as well, ma’am. Uh…Taehyun has been a wonderful friend and…boyfriend to me. Um…I’m really in love with your son, ma’am.” Beomgyu nervously ranted, hands slightly shaking as he blushed deeply and looked at the woman. The woman looked at him surprisedly, before smiling and laughing softly in response.
“Oh, my! You’re just positively adorable! Come, come! Sit down at the table, I’ll make you some tea, and you can grace me with tales of how my son has changed your life!” She beamed, wrapping her arm around Beomgyu’s as she led him closer to the table. The hybrid confusedly followed her, before sitting down at the table. Taehyun shook his head, clearly endeared as he smiled and sat down next to Beomgyu.
🩵
After they talked for a while, Taehyun’s sister arrived with Taehyun’s father with multiple bags in hand.
“Hey dad, hey sis. Welcome home!” Taehyun smiled, turning around from his seat at the kitchen table.
“Ahh, our Taehyunie is home! It’s good to see you.” His father smiled, setting the bags down and ruffling Taehyun’s hair endearingly. Taehyun softly laughed, closing his eyes and slightly blushing, as though he was a little boy who just returned from school. Beomgyu smiled, instantly endeared by the expression.
“And I see you brought someone with you!” His father turned his attention to Beomgyu, the hybrid instantly standing up from the table.
“Yes, sir. It’s nice to meet you. My name is Choi Beomgyu. Your son has been very good to me.” Beomgyu smiled, shaking the older man’s hand as he slightly bowed to the figure.
“That’s good. Uh, this is my daughter, Taehyun’s sister, Sohyun.”
Beomgyu turned to her, glint in his eye as he showed her a friendly smile. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Taehyun’s…newest boyfriend? Anyway, I’m Choi Beomgyu.” He nervously ranted, not knowing exactly how to word his relationship with Taehyun with a single label. Taehyun laughed softly in response, rubbing Beomgyu’s hair in response, surprising the hybrid as his ears sprung from his head.
Finally, Taehyun thought, he loosened up a little. Taehyun’s parents smiled warmly, while his sister rolled her eyes and picked up the bags long discarded on the floor. Taehyun slightly sighed out, watching as his older sister pulled food out of the bags.
Really? Does she have to be like this on my birthday? I know she gets defensive but its not like Beomgyu-hyung is out to ruin our lives.
He shook his head, smiling once more before looking at Beomgyu, the hybrid conversing with Taehyun’s father animatedly.
Once Beomgyu finished relaying the story of how Taehyun almost ruined one of Beomgyu’s paintings before he shipped it off to his client, he went over to the kitchen, Taehyun’s mother and sister working on making their lunch.
“Is there anything I can help with, ma’am?” He smiled, tilting his head ever so slightly.
“Oh, thanks, Beomgyu-ah! Hm…can you--”
“No! He’ll only slow us down!” His sister turned around from the cutting board, serious expression on her face. Beomgyu silently looked at her, surprised expression on his face.
“Now, dear, don’t say that. Beomgyu, do you think you could actually help Sohyun cut up the vegetables?” Taehyun’s mother smiled, Beomgyu nodding silently in response.
“Hmph. Here. Cut all of these into thin slices. Do you understand?” She set the knife on the cutting board, before going to the sink to wash the already-cut vegetables.
“Uh…yes, ma’am.” Beomgyu was slightly taken aback, before he hesitantly picked the knife up and started cutting. Taehyun glared at his sister silently from the couch, huffing loudly before turning back to his father.
“You know she can’t help it, Taehyun.” His father slightly smiled, the boy crossing his arms and leaning further into the couch.
“I know, but it’s stupid. I’m 22 years old, I can take care of myself.” The boy brooded, rolling his eyes.
“Mm. Just…try to forget about it. Just for today, yeah?” His father rubbed the boy’s hair, effectively calming the boy as he sighed out and nodded.

Taehyun’s sister’s attitude towards Beomgyu only seemed to get worse. For one thing, she couldn’t stop glaring at him whenever he had his back turned. Beomgyu could still feel it like lasers shooting into the back of his head. Apart from that, she was cold and harsh whenever he directed a sentence toward her.
After a particularly harsh under-the-breath insult from her, Beomgyu suddenly didn’t feel like eating lunch anymore. He set his chopsticks down, looking at his lap as his ears lowered.
“Um…I have to go to the bathroom.” He smiled, purposefully avoiding eye contact with her.
“I’ll show you where it is.” Taehyun smiled, grabbing his hand and standing up from the table. He led the hybrid upstairs, slightly concerned, slightly serious expression on his face.
Once upstairs and away from the concerned eyes of his parents and the glare of his sister’s, he leaned against Beomgyu the older slightly crashing into the wall of the hallway. Taehyun immediately kissed the hybrid, surprising Beomgyu greatly as his cheeks steadily heated up. Beomgyu relaxed into the kiss, closing his eyes as his ears perked and his tail curled around his right leg. When Taehyun left the lingering kiss, he laid his hands on Beomgyu’s cheeks, the older silently opening his eyes.
“I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you about her.” Taehyun spoke in such a vulnerable, sensitive tone that Beomgyu felt like crying in his arms.
“It’s okay. I’m not mad.” Beomgyu spoke tenderly, comfort pouring from his heart to his tone.
“I didn’t know she was coming, she didn’t text me back. But, know it’s not your fault. She’s like that with everyone. She was like that with the others when they first met her. She’s still…kind of like that with them. I…don’t know. She’s been like that since I was young. She gets really defensive over our family. I’m sorry.”
“Hey, hey. It’s okay. I’m not mad. I’m actually kind of happy. That you and your family have someone that loves you like that. It’s really admirable.” Beomgyu smiled, laying his hands on Taehyun’s cheeks.
Taehyun stared at Beomgyu silently, worried expression on his face. Beomgyu’s smile softened as he leaned closer to Taehyun and kissed his lips softly.
“I love you.” Beomgyu whispered, tender tone in his voice.
“I lo--”
“What are you two doing up here?” Sohyun spoke pointedly, causing both of the boys to flinch.
“N--nothing!” Taehyun flinched back, wide-eyed as he looked at his sister.
“Come on, we’re gonna cut the cake. Hurry up, I won’t wait for you two.” Sohyun started to walk back down the stairs as she spoke.
“But--it’s my birthday, sis!” Taehyun refuted, incredulous expression on his face.
Sohyun turned back to him, before softly smirking, then looking at Beomgyu hesitantly as her expression turned back to a neutral one, maybe slightly guilty. Beomgyu smiled softly.
And so, they headed back downstairs, smiles on all of their faces as the atmosphere lightened, ever so slightly. They cut the cake and ate merrily, and for the first time that day, it seemed that Sohyun was tolerant of Beomgyu. And that was enough for Beomgyu to consider her a friend.
🩵
After they finished their slices of cake, a surprise guest came to their birthday celebration. Taehyun gasped as he walked from the upstairs, widest smile gracing his face.
“Hobak! Beomgyu-hyung, I completely forgot to tell you. This is our family cat, Hobak. He’s on the older side so he mostly sleeps in my old room.” Taehyun ran to the staircase, picking the cat up as he sprawled out into Taehyun’s arms affectionately.
Beomgyu’s ears flickered in surprise, the cat hybrid’s eyes narrowing into slits as the fur on his ears and tails spiked. Taehyun walked closer to the table, Hobak meowing softly as he gazed in between Taehyun and Beomgyu. Beomgyu squeaked in response, his body flooding with cat-like instincts. Taehyun set Hobak down on the table as he sat back down, easy smile on his face as Hobak purred and leaned his body against Taehyun’s face. Hobak slowly walked toward Beomgyu, the hybrid stretching his fingers out to the cat. Hobak silently sniffed his fingers, before immediately purring and rubbing against his fingers. Beomgyu instantly beamed, mouth forming into a cat-like smirk. Taehyun’s eyes instantly widened as he pulled out his phone, snapping a picture he would definitely be saving to a shared folder the rest of the boys called beomgyu, the extraordinarily talented, amazing, lovely hybrid that deserves the world.
After Beomgyu finished his moment with Hobak, they both decided to make their way back home, before it got too late. Beomgyu was even more hesitant than Taehyun, mostly because he had completely and utterly formed the most amazing friendship with Taehyun’s mother and didn’t know when he’d see her again.
“Now, now, dear, don’t you fret. Know that you’re always welcome here whenever you want. With or without Taehyunie.” She winked, cheeky smile on her face as Taehyun lightly scoffed.
“Sounds good mom!” Beomgyu smiled before flinching, immediately realizing what he called her.
“A…Ahh…sorry. It--um--slipped--ah…um…s--sorry.” His tone instantly turned nervous as he slightly ranted, rubbing the end of his ear nervously.
“See you soon, son.” She smiled, patting his hair softly. Beomgyu smiled softly, nodding warmly.
💚
Kai’s birthday was certainly an…interesting day to say the least. After the boys all ate breakfast together, as they always did, Beomgyu took Kai to the mall to check out a game the boy had his eyes on. When Beomgyu saw the glint that entered his eye and the smile that graced his face, he immediately bought the game for the boy, no thought necessary. The same would happen with the Eevee plush Kai saw in another store, to which Beomgyu sneakily bought and gave it to the boy.
When they returned home, to say Kai was surprised would be an understatement. There were his two sisters, helping the others put a banner saying Happy birthday, Kai! on the space above their TV.
“Lea-noona…Hiyyih…you’re here.” He smiled despite the confused tone filling his voice.
“Of course. You really think we’d miss our only brother’s 22nd birthday?” Lea replied with a sickeningly sweet tone, one that made Kai recoil in disgust, ever so slightly.
“Says the girl who missed my past two birthdays…” Kai rolled his eyes as he grumbled under his breath, causing Beomgyu to laugh softly and rub the back of the boy’s hair softly.
“Happy birthday, Kai-oppa!” Hiyyih smiled, bouncing up to the two cheerfully.
“Thanks, Hiyyih. I didn’t think you’d get the day off since your schedule is so hectic.” He patted his younger sister’s head softly, brotherly side instantly coming out.
“Mm. Sorry. Anyway! I’m more interested in Beomgyu-oppa!” Hiiyih turned her attention to the tall hybrid, Beomgyu slightly flinching back in response. He formally met Kai’s two sisters through a family facetime, and the two were just as excitable there as they were today.
“It’s nice to meet you in person, Hiyyih. Kai’s told me a lot about you.” Beomgyu smiled that generally friendly smile of his.
“Not bad things I hope! Knowing my brother, it can't be very good.” She rolled her eyes, causing Beomgyu to slightly laugh in response.
“It wouldn’t kill you to have more faith in me.” Kai rolled his eyes, folding his arms over his chest sulkingly.
“Hey I know you’d rather spend all day catching up with each other, but we still have work to do, Hiyyih.” Lea called from the kitchen, causing Hiyyih to silently mock her. The boys laughed softly, causing Lea to chime in, “And I know you’re mocking me in there so just get your butt over here before I hurt you.”
💚
After they finished putting all of the decorations up for Kai’s party, the sisters’ attention was immediately transferred to Beomgyu, their intrigue piqued as they gazed at his ears and tail.
“They’re so soft and fluffy! Wow, I really can’t believe they’re real!” Lea squealed, glint in her eye as she rubbed Beomgyu’s ears in a way that made Beomgyu purr in delight.
“His tail too! Did Yeonjun-oppa design his pants?” Hiyyih poked the end of his tail, causing it to slightly scrunch as the hybrid flinched and curled into himself.
“Hiyyih! Don’t touch his tail!” Kai swat her hand away, serious tone in his voice, one that Beomgyu had never heard on the younger before.
“Okay, okay! But I can still touch his ears!” She rubbed her fingers against the tips of Beomgyu’s ears, causing the hybrid to relax immediately as he closed his eyes and lifted his head closer to their touch.
Most of the night would carry on like that, despite the fact that it was still fully Kai’s birthday. Beomgyu felt a little bad, but when Kai conveyed it’s okay, it’s not like I expected them to make a big fuss about me, Beomgyu resigned himself to the fate of being their plaything for the night.
When the girls ended up leaving for the night, it was a long and drawn-out affair. It was, single-handedly, the longest goodbye Beomgyu had ever been a part of.
“Ahh, I hate to part from Beomgyu. Can’t we just stay the night, Kai-oppa?” Hiyyih begged, mouth outurned in a pout as she tilted her head.
“No way, Hiyyih! And guess what? I’m gonna sleep with Beomgyu-hyung tonight just to rub it in your face!” Kai smirked, childish tone in his voice as he placed his hands on his hips proudly.
“That’s so not fair, oppa!” Hiyyih complained, Lea draping her arm over Hiyyih’s cooly.
“Don’t worry, we’ll steal Beomgyu from you soon enough.” Lea smiled, winking towards Beomgyu. Beomgyu scoffed lightly, shaking his head in response.
“Like I’ll let you!” Kai stuck his tongue out before Beomgyu intervened and started closing their door.
“Okay, hope to see you two again soon! Bye bye!” He smiled, waving before fully shutting the door and sighing out.
“Those two are a whirlwind. ” Beomgyu spoke under his breath, eyes wide as he leaned against the door tiredly. Soobin wrapped his arm around Beomgyu’s shoulder happily.
“That’s the Huening siblings for you. Now, come on, let’s wash up before bed.”
“Beomgyu-hyung~ let’s take a bath together~” Kai teased as he wiggled his eyebrows, alluring expression on his face.
“If you really want, sure. Only for today though~” He winked as he turned around, holding his pointer finger over his mouth as an alluring smirk spread across his face.
Kai blushed as his eyes went wide, mouth falling ajar, “Really?! You mean it, Beomgyu-hyung?! You heard him, right?! You can’t go back on your word!” He chased after the hybrid, excited tone in his voice.
🤍
The boys decided that rather than an actual party for Yeonjun’s 24th birthday, at the implore of Yeonjun, they simply took a family trip to different attractions in Seoul. They didn’t have any exact destination, they just aimlessly wandered around and stopped anywhere that piqued Yeonjun’s (or even Kai’s ) interest.
Somehow, after a couple of hours, they found themselves at the central shopping center near the outskirts of Seoul. And Beomgyu silently rejoiced, taking his chance to buy Yeonjun’s gift, which he argued with himself was okay because he had been in overdrive with work and other responsibilities, and Yeonjun would never hate him for getting his birthday gift at the last possible minute.
While the others looked around curiously, he lagged behind them, looking at each storefront carefully. He silently sighed out, going into a store briefly before exiting and catching up to the others.
When he finally found a store that piqued his and Yeonjun’s interest, he silently fell back as the others continued on their trek through the shopping center. He silently looked around for the particular store he had his eyes on, before landing his eyes on it and running over with a small smile on his face.
“Excuse me, ma’am, how much are the sunglasses in the window?”
“Oh, we’re doing a special sale on those! They’re 50,000 won [about $50 USD] with tax. Would you like me to get a pair from the back?”
“Yes, please.” He pulled his wallet out, checking he had enough to cover the cost. Luckily he did; he certainly was proud of saving his money from his commissions this past week.
🤍
It was only a mere couple of minutes that the group realized they lost Beomgyu after he trailed off behind them. They all immediately panicked, assuming the worst as they searched for him through the sea of people on the floor.
“Beomgyu? Beomgyu-ah!” Soobin called out worriedly, distressed expression on his face.
“Beomgyu-ah! Where are you?” Yeonjun called, panic setting into his bones as he held Soobin’s hand.
“Soobin-ah, what if he’s lost?” Yeonjun worriedly called out, eyes going wide as the realization came upon him.
“He is an adult, Yeonjun-hyung. I’m sure he’s fine! Right?” Taehyun reassured the older, before looking to reassure his own concerns.
“Beomgyu-hyung! Hyung, where are you?” Kai called out, completely forgoing his boyfriends’ conversations as he continued looking for the hybrid.
They all split into different corners of the floor, looking in each store, slightly panicked but comical expressions on their faces as they looked into corners the hybrid definitely couldn’t fit in.
Yeonjun was the one who ended up finding Beomgyu in the end, sending a wave of relief into his body as he ran up to the hybrid as he finished his purchase.
“Beomgyu-ah! You gave me a heart attack. I really thought we lost you for a minute.” Yeonjun panted out, hand lying on Beomgyu’s shoulder relievedly.
“Sorry, Yeonjun-hyung. But, I saw this and knew you’d love it, so I had to get it before it was too late. Happy birthday, Yeonjun-hyung!” Beomgyu smiled, showing Yeonjun his gift as his whisker dimples came out. Yeonjun silently looked down at the case, taking it from Beomgyu and opening it curiously. His eyes widened as he gazed at the sunglasses silently, glint in his eye ever so intrigued.
He gazed at the designer sunglasses with fox charms attached to the ends of each lens.
“Since you’re such a fox…get it?” Beomgyu wiggled his eyebrows teasingly, nudging his elbow into Yeonjun’s side warmly.
Yeonjun scoffed out, laughing softly as he continued to gaze at the sunglasses. Tears silently swelled in his eyes.
“Don’t scare me again like that, idiot.” He wrapped his arm around Beomgyu’s shoulders, leading the hybrid out of the store.
“Yes, sir!” Beomgyu smiled, mimicking a salute.
“I actually kinda wanted this, not gonna lie.” Yeonjun laughed, immediately putting them on. Little did Beomgyu know it was to hide the tears brimming in his eyes.
“See? I know you too well, Yeonjun-hyung.” Beomgyu leaned into his side, causing the tears brimming in Yeonjun’s to diminish, ever so slightly.
“You’re a dork.”
“You’re just as big a dork. You’re wearing the glasses!” Beomgyu smiled cheerfully, and Yeonjun fought the urge to kiss his cheek and instead called the others back together.
Yeonjun refused to take the glasses off for the rest of the afternoon; the rest of their afternoon was spent with Yeonjun gushing over his gift and telling him how it was meant to be since he saw the glasses in an Instagram post earlier that month. And they would all laugh and roll their eyes before eventually returning home and eating cake as Yeonjun opened the rest of his presents. And everything would be perfect between the five for that day alone.
