W'ello there!

Summary:

Poppy learnt how to speak.

And with that comes great power, such as copying her dad's catch phrase.

A WTEWYNE oneshot

Notes:

Little drabble because I got brainrotted at the idea of Poppy saying Scar's catchphrase for the first time after reading the cousin fic

Work Text:

It was criminal of Scar to tell Grian he had to leave the comfort of his cosy bed. It was even more criminal of him to actually get out of the bed and leave Grian there all alone. His heat source nowhere to be found.

Resisting the temptation to go on a hunt for his alpha, Grian plunged himself deeper into his self-made cocoon. Snuggling helplessly into the warmth and allowing a peaceful hum to sneak through his parted lips.

Sunday was his sleep in day. His day of the week he was allowed to rest without his precious toddler announcing herself to him the second the sun dared to shine.

As great as it was, Sunday was also the day he missed his and Scar’s morning cuddle session. Where the two would refuse to leave the confines of their bed until absolutely necessary. Of course Scar would never leave him wanting and would always wrap his omega into his arms before starting his day; but it didn’t feel the same when Grian wasn’t being dragged up by his arms, to sit up and wake up with a groan on his tongue and soured brow.

Sundays were filled with plentiful rest and longing for his mate.

A sudden knock on the door told him of his mates presence, likely sensing Grian missing him, and with a few quiet footsteps, a light kiss was pressed to the top of Grian’s head. His eyes fluttering open to meet Scars in a brief moment of bliss.

“Morning, sunshine.” Whispered Scar, love dripping off of him like honey.

“Mornin’.” Grian croaked out with a groan following shortly after, alongside a good over the head arm stretch and clenched eyes. Scar chuckled.

“Making breakfast in the kitchen, want me to bring you it in bed or you wanna join?” Scar offered.

“Mm… I’ll join.” Grian huffed, his arms falling back against the plush cushions.

Scar placed another gentle kiss just above his eyelid and another on his nose. A soothing hand rested above their shared duvet, atop Grian’s stomach and rubbed in small circles before Scar looked down at his omega with a bright, lop-sided smile. “Alright, take your time love.”

With that, the alpha excused himself and strutted back down the hall to their kitchen to continue his morning duties. A delightful aroma of bacon and eggs followed behind him and leaked through the crack he left open in the door.

Grian shared a silent stare with his ceiling before rising to sit up himself and making plans to chase after the delicious smell. Wiping his eyes with the palms of his hands and pulling on his shirt that definitely wasn’t stolen from his mate.

Grian made slow moves to stand, grateful for the lack of sickness that thankfully didn’t brew overnight.

Though a quick trip to the bathroom was growing gradually more needed as his darling little angel kicked at his bladder for heaven knows how many times.

Now with brushed out hair and a refreshed mouth ready for Scar’s dream come true breakfast, Grian wandered to the kitchen to find Scar in his usual morning attire. The least amount of clothes possible. Today's choice being the lack of a shirt, shorts that might as well be boxers and an apron with jellies face printed on the front along with a frilly bow tying it tight in the back. A gift from Cleo on his last birthday.

“Put some clothes on, Scar.” Mumbled Grian, though hypocritically as he eyed Scar from behind.

The alpha shot his head over his shoulder. “Well hello there, pretty bird!”

Scar extended an arm out in offering, Grian stumbled his way into it and was pulled taut into the firm, snug grip of Scar’s side. A strong hand on his hip and a thumb rubbing more soothing circles into it.

Scar smiled at him as soft lips brushed the side of Grian’s cheek, barely a kiss, unforgivable.

“Give me a proper one.” Grian scoffed.

“Make me.” Scar chimed, his hand pulled Grian in closer.

Grian huffed, placing a hand on Scar’s chest and rising on his toes to place a proper kiss on those soft lips. Sinking back down to the soles of his feet after hearing the smack of their lips. Much more approved.

Scar giggled happily, radiating joy.

Happy, Happy, Love Love Love

Grian hummed into the warmth of his personal heater. The ideal Sunday morning, though something was missing. Rather, somebody.

Right on cue, a meek yawn broke their content silence. Poppy stepped into the kitchen, her pink blanket dangling behind her.

“Hi there, Peanut! Sleep well?” Scar asked. Continuing with his cooking duties with a clunk of spatula against pan.

Poppy stared at him through her sleep crusted eyes, promptly deciding not to answer and making slow steps towards them instead.

Grian chuckled as the heavy weight of his daughter slumped against his leg. He reached down to stroke her hair. “Morning, Poppy.”

She released the grip on her blanket, held by her tiny little hand, and hugged his leg with all the strength she could muster. Evidently getting her spit and drool all over the skin there too. Not that Grian minded, he’d had far worse than drool be dripped onto him from his little girl.

Poppy scrunched her eyes as she looked up at her mama. She attempted to telepathically communicate her dislike for the brightness of the lights (the sun) and unscrunched her eyes once they gained their focus on Grian.

Breaking into a great toothy grin, Poppy giggled. “W’ello there.” She rubbed her face into her mama’s calf. “Mama pretty.”

But Scar and Grian were no longer listening to hear the second half, as their eyes widened in shock.

Scar could barely contain his excitement, a burst of Happiness bleeding through the bond.

Happy, Happy, Ecstatic, Love.

Scar bit his lip to hold back his giddy noises, shaking Grian with the hand still held tightly on his hip.

The pair made eye contact, Grian giving his mate a pleased chuckle and a small nod. Their eyes said more than words ever could.

Grian bent over, taking poppy into his arms and turning to face Scar directly. “Can you say that again for daddy, Poppy?”

“Pre’ ‘y?” Poppy hummed, her head turning to the side like a lost, confused puppy.

“No, sweetie, the other thing?”

She brought her fist to her mouth, wrinkling her brow and squeaking out a muffled confused noise before gasping. Poppy dropped her drooled hand and looked at her daddy. “W’ello there!”

Poppy grinned again, squealing when her daddy picked her up from mama’s arms, spinning her in circles in the air.

“You said the thing! You said the thing!”

She held tightly onto Scar’s apron straps as their spinning came to a gradual stop. “W’ello, Daddy!”

Scar brought her in for a hug, looking at his mate over their daughter. His lip wobbled.

Grian sighed endearingly, rubbing up and down his mate's arm as Scar began to pepper a million little kisses to Poppy’s head.

“Daddy! Tickles!” She exclaimed, her little laugh still proving she’s as much their baby as she was before she learnt how to copy little phrases like that.

The alpha attempted to blink away tears that were threatening to spill, prickling at his eyes and creating a shimmery, glistening cover over them. She was growing up and learning from them!

“You’re so smart, Peanut.” Scar choked out nasally, the tears getting to him, slipping out one by one.

Poppy whined and pulled back, looking at Scar and then Grian. “Daddy sad?”

She looked just as sad at the thought and before they risked having two crying family members, Grian intercepted. “No, baby bird, Daddys just really, really happy.”

Poppy turned back to face her daddy and placed her two chubby little hands into his cheeks, squishing his wet face. “Silly!”

“Yeah, he’s very silly.” Grian smiled. He couldn’t begin to express his happiness. His loving husband, his darling daughter and their second on the way, all together to experience Scar’s dream come true. Maybe this breakfast fits its name far too well.
