Summary
Vivian Taventus -- "Tav" to the familiar or the foolhardy -- is a difficult mage to categorize. Necromancy, enchantment, and transfiguration all appeal to her alike--anything that allows her to explore the wellspring of personal identity, of what constitutes a 'soul.'
So naturally, upon entering a Sharran crucible rife with divine magic, Vivian finds herself face-to-face with flawless replicas of herself and her companions--including the woman with whom she has quite recently become intimate--and makes a snap decision.
Fortune conspires to help her pursue this new line of research to its conclusion--by capturing the Sharran simulacrum of Shadowheart and locking it away until she has the chance to explore, in depth, the question of exactly how detailed of a replica this might be.
What Vivian did not anticipate is precisely how much Shadowheart might change in the course of the Gauntlet. Nor how she herself might react when the divinely-born replica shows more signs of life than she thought.
At least all they have left to do is kill General Thorm! After all, there couldn't possibly be any more obstacles after that.
