A Job Well Done

Summary:

"Let's get out of here before we get roped into playing, too."

Notes:

For No True Pair Eight Character Challenge 2024

September Five - John Sheppard & Teyla Emmagen - beat the heat

Work Text:

"Should we rescue them?" John asked softly.

Teyla looked to see Aiden and Rodney playing a game that involved sticks and stones with the Athosian children.

"It is a game of logic," she said. "I think Rodney will find it fascinating."

"If you say so," John grinned. "Let's get out of here before we get roped into playing, too."

"What did you have in mind?" Teyla asked.

"It's a couple of hours to dinner, how about we go down to the beach?" John suggested. "I'll be glad to wade along the shore and cool off."

SGA-1 had spent the morning helping the Athosians build a new central meeting hall since the old one had been decimated by a storm. They used the larger building for special occasions and festivals, or sometimes when family groups wanted to share a meal outside of their homes. The Athosians had done most of the work but John, Rodney, and Aiden had done their share in helping with some of the heavier lifting.

Wading in the cool water was the closest John would get to a shower before they got back to Atlantis. The area near the shore was knee-deep but there was a large drop-off a little ways off. There were also predators in the deeper water, so only the small area near shore was safe.

John sat on a rock to take off his boots and socks. He rolled up the BDU pants and waded into the water.

"Ah! That feels good," John said. He splashed his arms and face, to help cool off the rest of his body.

Teyla sat on the small beach, happy to sit and watch John play in the water. John got out when his feet were cold, ready to soak up some of the sunshine himself.

"There you are!" Rodney said. "Sneaking out on us and leaving us to entertain the children."

"You looked like you were having fun and we did not wish to disturb you," Teyla replied.

"I have no idea what kind of game that was, but the Doc caught right on," Aiden grinned.

"It was a kid's game!" Rodney replied, exasperated.

"Obviously, since Jinto won more games than you did," Aiden tattled.

"Good thing there's a roast beast feast for dinner," John added. "A good way to christen the new building."

"It is," Teyla replied. "Thank you all for helping."
