Chapter Text
“I told you this last time! There’s nothing wrong with him!” There was shouting.
“Whaddy’a mean! He’s sick!”
Oh god why was there shouting?
“Well whatever the sickness is is not supernatural as far as I can tell so cool your shit.” There was a pause. “You can go check in on him you-know, instead of yelling at me.”
There was the click of the door opening and closing.
“Okaruuuun! You're awake!” Momo came running towards him, pulling him into a hug. “School sucks without you.”
Ken coughs. “I-I'm sure”
“Anyway! How are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?”
He took quick stock of himself, and was quietly amazed. There was still that feeling of wrongness, but it was better, and he was no longer nauseous. That was the real bonus.
“Um, yes actually. Thank you guys,” he mumbled.
“Oh we didn’t do much.” Momo slumped down beside him. “I guess you just got better on your own.”
“Did you guys at least figure out what was wrong?”
“Here’s the thing, as far as we’re aware nothing was wrong! Except for maybe like, you got a cold.”
“What?!”
“Yeah I don’t believe it either, but Grandma couldn’t find anything and your aura looks fine,” she explains. “Maybe I could’ve seen what was wrong if I got a look at your aura while you were awake and everything was happening, but as far as we both can tell, you're fine. It’s annoying.”
He was… fine? Everything was normal, or at least close to normal.
That was part of the problem wasn’t it.
“Hey!” Momo snapped her fingers in front of her face. “You're spacing out.”
“I-Yeah I guess so.” He runs a hand through his hair. “There’s a lot to think about.”
“I’m sure.” She idley takes his hand. “Are you really okay? You’ve seemed out of it since… well before you got sick. I’m worried.”
“I-I’m fine, I think,” Ken answered. “I’ve felt off since I lost Turbo Granny’s powers but I’m, I think I’m just adjusting.” He fidgets with his hands. “It’s just, very… weird? I feel like there’s something missing, but everything is how it should be, you-know?”
Momo tilts her head, asking for an explanation, or maybe more clarification. He shrugs, he doesn’t have any of that for her.
Momo leans into him, laying her head on his shoulder. “We’ll figure it out, we always do.”
“I don’t know if there’s anything to figure out.”
“Of course there is! You’ve been acting all mopy and stuff for a while.”
“Oh, I didn’t know you noticed. I was trying very hard to make sure you didn’t.”
“Well sorry buddy, but we’re best friends. That’s not gonna work.”
Ken felt his face flush. “We’re best friends?”
“Duh.” Momo put her head on his shoulder. “What else would we be.”
His face warmed and he looked away.
Momo took her hand in his. “And we’ll figure all of this out together.”
