Chapter 1: Countryside

Chapter Text

Jayce sat up, feeling the grass beneath his palms. “Viktor…? Viktor?!”

“Jayce?” he hears his partner ask. Jayce turns to his left, spotting Viktor only a few feet away. He doesn’t waste another second, crawling over to embrace his partner.

Viktor returns the exchange, comforting him, “I’m okay…We’re okay.” Viktor looks up to the sky, lost in thought. “Viktor?” Jayce asks, slighting pulling away when he spots Viktor crying. He takes Viktor’s face in his hands, asking with panic, “What’s wrong??”

“Nothing.”

“Then why are you crying?”

“Because we don’t need to fight anymore.”

“How do I look?” Jayce questions Viktor after exiting the dressing room. Viktor decided that they need to fit into their new surroundings, so here they are.

Viktor looks Jayce up and down, then decides, “Like…an old, tired grandma.” Jayce raises his eyebrows as if to say, “Really?” before sighing and entering the dressing room once more to try on a different outfit.

Viktor looks over the magazine in his hand, attempting to decipher this new world. Then again, last time he tried to decipher something called “natural, human emotions” it ended with them misplaced here.

Jayce exits, lifting his hands so Viktor can get a good look at all sides of the outfit, then asks, “What about now?”

“You look…” Viktor begins, then looks up from the magazine he was investigating. “..Good. Much better than the last one.”

“Thank you, Vik.”

They stare at each other in a moment of silence before Jayce leans in, asking with a hushed tone, “What have you found?”

“I presume that we haven’t replaced anyone. We’re the first Viktor and Jayce here.”

“What makes you say that?”

“I can’t find a trace of Zaun nor Piltover. It’s…wondrous.”

“I’m so glad you’re here, Viktor.”

Viktor looks up at Jayce, his eyes much softer now. After a couple seconds, he cautiously mutters, “What?” Jayce takes Viktor’s hands in his, restating, “I’ve got my partner back.” Jayce has this dumb, sweet overwhelming on his face that Viktor can’t stop staring at for the life of him. Viktor moves his hand to wipe a tear, but Jayce gets it before he can.

“Although these clothes are much more…acceptable, they look…”

“Dumb?” Jayce finishes for Viktor, sending him a knowing smile.

“I won’t say anything. But if I did, it would be that.”

Jayce laughs, his eyes creasing. It’s been a while ever since he laughed. “Red plaid looks nice on you,” Viktor compliments, attempting to straighten out the argyle vest that he thrifted.

“Your’s suits you, too, y’know,” Jayce comments, which results in Viktor shooting him a look of obvious disagreement. Jayce raises his hands in his defense, then adds, “I’m just saying that you pull off everything.” Viktor’s face visibly softens at Jayce’s words.

“You’re hopeless.

“You’re stunning.”

“Oh, shut up.”

Viktor flashes Jayce a smile, physically unable to keep one off his face. Despite the wonderful view, Jayce continues to gaze at Viktor. “This countryside is wonderful,” Jayce tells Viktor.

“Community looks small.”

“I know, right? It must be wonderful!”

They’re quiet for a moment, staying in the moment before Jayce interrupts, “There’s no reason to go back.” Viktor shifts uncomfortably in his spot.

“I know.”

In the ambitious tone that Viktor knows all too well, Jayce promises, “We can enjoy this! No fighting or hextech or pain, just…this.

Viktor abruptly jumps forward, grabbing Jayce into a hug. Viktor doesn’t need his cane anymore, all besides his face seeming different.

But not to Jayce.
