Chapter Text
Sakusa Kiyoomi woke up at exactly 5:30AM. He groaned, got out of bed, and went to shower. After washing his hair, he did his morning pilates. After that, he made a simple breakfast and coffee. He turned on the TV and watched the news while slowly eating away at his breakfast.
At this point it was 6:30AM, and it was about time to start studying for his 8AM class. He took out his laptop and got to work, the low buzz of the news providing a calm atmosphere for working. He had a long day ahead of him, and he was not looking forward to it. He thought about texting his parents that it was the first day of classes and practice, but refrained. He didn’t want to bother them. He also didn’t want them to bother him. It was a simple give and take.
He studied for about ten more minutes before leaving his apartment, making sure to lock all doors and windows. He triple checked the front door just to be safe. He walked to the campus, it was a nice morning. His class was in thirty minutes, and he had plenty of time to meander over to the lecture hall as slowly as possible. He was not in any way interested in this class. It was just one of the stupid credits he had to take.
Kiyoomi breathed out a sigh. It was 7:30am. He could either be early and look like a try hard, or check his watch every two seconds to hope it was closer to the class.
He decided to go to the dining hall and grab some food instead. His breakfast from almost two hours ago was basically gone, so he could use another bagel or sandwich. He walked to the dining hall– which was right next to the lecture hall–and stood in a line of about five other kids. Once it was his turn, he looked at the girl at the register.
“Could I get a ham and cheese croissant?” He asked flatly.
“That’s $5.39.” She said back. He swiped his meal card and continued, standing by the pick up counter. After a couple minutes his food was ready, and he picked it up before walking out of the dining hall and in the direction of the lecture hall. There were a few kids walking in, and he felt it was safe to walk in now. He took a few bites of his food before walking in, and taking a seat near the middle of the rows. There were 15 other kids besides Kiyoomi in the room, and about half of them looked like nerds.
It was 7:50 now, and more and more people started entering the room. No one of interest, though. He really didn’t care about other people. He was just here to get his degree and get out.
He had bigger problems, though. Today was the first day of volleyball practice. He was dreading it like it was his last day on earth, and he had good reason to: Miya Atsumu. Kiyoomi had seen one Inarizaki match back in his second year of high school and decided then and there that Miya Atsumu was an annoyance. The way he silenced the crowd was reason enough.
Kiyoomi snapped out of his thoughts as the professor walked in, starting up a slide deck and starting to talk about Ancient Politics.
God, why did he have to choose history?

Kiyoomi walked out of the class, thoroughly bored to death. There was no way he was getting through college if every lecture was as god-awful as that one. He blew out a scoff and walked back in the direction of his apartment. That was his only class today. Practice was at noon today, which was a horrible time. It was mostly to account for other people’s schedules, but most of the team had said in the website that they didn’t have a Monday class or it was a morning class.
Nonetheless, he had practice at noon, and it was 11am. That gave him barely any time to get ready. Why did his life have to be like this? Even his sport was ruined now that his least favorite person was playing on his team. As he was fuming, he got home to his apartment. He went inside and got ready as quickly as possible, grabbing his bag and again speed walking across campus to get to the gym on time.
He made it to the gym with five minutes to spare. He steeled himself before walking in, and entered the room to complete and absolute chaos. He had done his research on everyone in the team, and from what he could tell, Hinata and Bokuto were chasing each other around in a game of tag. How childish. He scoffed and began putting on his shoes, not greeting them because he didn’t want anything to do with their tomfoolery.
“Yer Sakusa, right?” He heard a low southern drawl from beside him. He looked up to see the very last face he wanted to. Miya Atsumu’s big brown eyes stared into his, and Kiyoomi’s face contorted into a grimace.
“Unfortunately.” He grumbled, putting on his shoes. Miya Atsumu raised an eyebrow, looking at him with a puzzled expression. “Miya Atsumu, am I wrong?” He stood up, and made level eye contact.
“That’s me.” He crossed his arms. His hair was lighter than the last time Kiyoomi had seen it. In the Inarizaki match, he had piss-yellow hair. Now it was more of a blonde, thankfully. That color was rancid.
“Okay.” He ended the conversation, walking away to go talk to someone else. Miya Atsumu looked absolutely gagged, like Kiyoomi had committed a crime against humanity. He dropped his bag in the team room where there were other people’s bags, and walked back out into the gym just as the coach walked in, assessing the room.
“Let’s get started.”
